00:02 - Nine young Malaysians, seven girls and two boys,
00:06 may not be teenagers yet,
00:08 but they are already playing chess on an international level.
00:12 Come October 14th, these budding talents
00:14 will be flying off to Egypt to represent Malaysia
00:18 at the World Cadet Chess Championships.
00:20 - I actually feel very nervous, excited,
00:27 and really looking forward to go to Egypt.
00:29 (upbeat music)
00:31 - I've been training very hard
00:33 and have attended some classes,
00:36 like the national training.
00:39 - The prestigious tournament is open to boys and girls
00:43 under the ages of eight, 10, and 12
00:46 from all around the world.
00:48 According to Malaysian Chess Federation
00:50 Head of Delicates, Nick Ahmad Faruqi,
00:53 this is the biggest contingent Malaysia
00:55 has ever sent to this event.
00:58 - After my experience last year,
01:00 (speaking in foreign language)
01:04 but they looks quite prepared, very well prepared.
01:10 - According to Nick Ahmad,
01:12 the players who come from all over Malaysia
01:15 have been preparing for this event with their coaches.
01:18 Their preparation includes chess puzzles,
01:20 opening and game analysis,
01:22 and active tournament participation.
01:25 So why do these young players enjoy playing chess so much?
01:29 - I like playing chess because it's fun
01:34 and I like when I win.
01:37 - I think chess is gonna help me be famous in the future.
01:43 - It's because I can get a bunch of experience
01:47 and I get to have some medals
01:50 and my parents would like to be proud of me.
01:54 - Because when I grow up, I'm gonna be a Grand Master.
01:56 - The World Cadet Chess Championships
02:00 will take place in Sham El Sheikh, Egypt
02:03 from October 14th to 27th.
