00:00 Inspector General of Police Razeruddin Hussain has cited safety concerns as the reason for
00:06 withholding information regarding the whereabouts of former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng for
00:11 return to Malaysia on Sunday.
00:13 Speaking at a press conference, Razeruddin said the police believed that Ng was in danger
00:17 and expressed concern for his safety.
00:20 Razeruddin also said that Ng is not required to wear an electronic monitoring device despite
00:25 having worn one in the US where he faced charges.
00:28 Ng was repatriated to Malaysia to assist authorities in the ongoing 1MDB investigation.
00:34 On March 10th, Ng was handed a 10-year prison sentence by a New York federal court for his
00:38 role in the misappropriation of billions of dollars from the 1MDB fund.
00:43 A jury found Ng, who served as Goldman's former head of investment banking in Malaysia,
00:48 guilty of aiding his former boss, Tim Leissner, in embezzling funds from 1MDB, laundering
00:53 the proceeds, and bribing government officials to secure business deals.
