00:02 - I know that's Melo, I know it is.
00:04 (laughing)
00:06 It's definitely exciting moments.
00:16 Just here with, you know, other great guys
00:20 as far as the Melo ball, Terry Rozier,
00:25 PJ Washington, Gordon Hayward, all those guys.
00:28 All been good to me,
00:30 treating me like family away from home,
00:33 which is one of the biggest things I present is,
00:35 you know, the bonds with, you know, new teammates
00:38 is kind of the most important thing on and off the court
00:41 'cause you can, you know, figure out each other's strengths
00:43 and weaknesses.
00:45 So I feel like just, you know, building new bonds
00:47 with everybody is the most important thing to me.
00:49 (indistinct)
00:51 (indistinct)
00:54 - I think a successful rookie season is just really,
01:05 just keeping your body under control,
01:09 just as far as what you put in it.
01:11 I think what you put in it can go a long way
01:16 as far as if you can make, play 82 games
01:20 and just really the weight room.
01:21 I think I've reached my weight goal, which is 210.
01:25 So I think that's a good goal to have
01:27 going into this training camp and a new season.
01:30 They just be able to take bumps and play at this weight
01:34 is probably a good thing to have.
01:37 (indistinct)
01:41 (indistinct)
01:43 - It's definitely a lot of work put in every day
01:54 as far as just on the court, but off the court,
01:57 I think it's just the character thing.
01:59 You know, like I've said, I built bonds with everybody.
02:02 I've heard from PJ every day.
02:04 I've heard from Mello every day, all, you know, all the vets.
02:08 So it's kind of a nice thing to have just to have,
02:11 you know, other great players look over you like that
02:15 and kind of steer you in the right direction.
02:17 (indistinct)
02:20 - That's a big role to have just coming in as a rookie.
02:38 But I feel like as a team, I think we'll fill everything out
02:41 and, you know, this season is going to be a long season,
02:43 but it's definitely going to be a great season.
02:45 (indistinct)
02:48 - I think just playing the game the right way,
03:06 I think everything would just fall into play
03:08 as far as making the right plays.
03:10 Like you said, my playmaking and the Mello ball's playmaking
03:13 I think is a great deal to have.
03:16 My ability to knock down shots,
03:19 the Mello ball passing ability,
03:20 Gordon Haywood's ability to knock down shots,
03:23 Mark Williams' ability to block shots and, you know,
03:27 be disruptive around the rim on both sides of the ball.
03:32 It's not really just about me.
03:35 I think it's a whole team effort.
03:36 (indistinct)
03:41 - No, I think it's actually good to have, you know,
03:56 people like, you know, those two, like I said,
03:59 all great vets.
04:00 They're just here to, you know, steer us rookies
04:04 on the right direction as far as, you know,
04:08 playing 82 games or, you know,
04:11 not even just playing basketball, you know,
04:13 off the court stuff.
04:14 I think that's the most important thing
04:16 is, you know, in NBA you have a lot of free time.
04:18 So I think just staying focused on and off the court
04:21 is an important thing.
04:23 My biggest adjustment, definitely just being able
04:33 to take bumps and give bumps.
04:35 Like I said, I've reached my weight goal
04:39 just to give bumps, which is a good thing to have.
04:42 But it's not all about just giving bumps.
04:45 It's, you know, take care of your body,
04:49 which will, you know, make you play 82 games,
04:53 which would be the difference maker.
04:55 (indistinct)
04:59 (indistinct)
05:01 Well, in college you get two-hour practices.
05:11 So you're in there two hours on the court
05:13 and probably about an hour on the table.
05:16 So I think that's kind of one thing I kind of built
05:20 in my schedule and my routine in the morning
05:22 is just to always get on the tables.
05:24 Like I've said, you know, we've got great vets
05:28 that will steer you in the right direction.
05:31 Coming here every morning to see Gordon Hayward
05:33 on the table.
05:34 So he's kind of, he's going to enforce to get on the table
05:38 if you don't.
05:39 So just really, just take care of your body
05:43 with whatever treatment, cold tub, cuppings, massage.
05:48 It can go a long way.
05:49 No, no, no, no, no.
05:55 Here to have fun, you know, here to have fun with it.
05:57 I think that's all I can ask for now is just have fun
06:01 and compete at a high level.
06:02 (indistinct)
06:05 I think it's just the size is definitely built for the league
06:23 the fact that, you know, you have the Kevin Durant,
06:26 Paul George, you know, the six nine guards.
06:29 Think of me, it just kind of fits into the NBA body
06:34 and the NBA style of play.
06:36 It's just fast, long, athletic.
06:40 So I think, you know, with my size, it can, you know,
06:44 potentially go a long way.
06:45 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
06:49 Oh, my bad, my bad.
06:51 Right here.
06:51 Say it again.
06:52 What specific personal goals do you have for yourself this season?
06:57 Personal goals, I think my biggest goal here
07:00 is just to win a championship.
07:02 I think I've made that known a few times,
07:06 but, you know, just win a championship
07:07 and win as many games as we can is the biggest goal here.
07:11 Brandon, I'm just curious.
07:14 I don't think we've talked about it,
07:16 what's your relationship like with Bryce Young
07:19 across the street?
07:20 Have you guys talked to him or nobody's had a struggle?
07:23 We talk every, probably every week.
07:29 Struggling? No.
07:31 It's all learning.
07:33 You know, we're both rookies.
07:34 Just here as a sponge, you know,
07:37 just soaking up all the information that we can
07:39 to make us better in our career.
07:42 What's your first impression of the city of Charlotte?
07:46 And how do you think that's been seen so far?
07:48 Definitely adjusted.
07:49 Compared to Nashville, like my hometown, just less people.
07:52 You know, you go on Broadway, you see all these people,
07:56 and it'll be a Monday morning.
07:58 So here on a Monday morning, it's not as many people,
08:01 but it's people out on a Friday night.
08:03 So I think that's the biggest thing,
08:05 just getting adjusted to, you know,
08:07 being in a new city, living by myself.
08:09 It's kind of -- it's not -- it's not a --
08:12 it's not stressful or anything.
08:13 I think it's, like I've said, just a learning experience.
08:17 What was the last time you went to a check-out program?
08:19 Pro-am? Yeah, I went to -- what is it?
08:22 Queen City Pro-am.
08:24 Had a lot of fun there.
08:25 I kind of -- I went with my friends.
08:28 Think that was one of my first weekends down here.
08:30 And it was just -- I didn't have nothing else to do.
08:31 I was like, "I want to watch some basketball somewhere."
08:33 And it was like, "Oh, we're going to Pro-am.
08:35 Cool. Thank you."
08:39 Oh.
