Polling for the Pelangai state by-election in Pahang which began at 8am Saturday (Oct 7) is going smoothly, with electors taking advantage of the fine morning weather to go out early to fulfil their responsibilities.

The Election Commission said that voter turnout was 53% as of 1pm.

00:13 to fulfil their responsibilities. A total of nine voting centres involving 30 channels
00:19 will be open until 6pm. As of 1pm, voter turnout was at 53%. Earlier, 62-year-old Perikatan
00:28 National candidate Kasim Samad, who was accompanied by his wife Nur Atika Abu Bakar, voted at
00:34 SMK Felda Cemomoy in Pahang at 8.30am. The other two candidates, contesting the seat
00:40 Dato' Omizah Abu Adam of Barisan National and Independent Hazli Almid D.M. Zul Hazli,
00:46 are registered voters for Kethari, which with Pelangai is also in the Bentong Parliamentary
00:51 constituency. Meanwhile, Election Commission Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Saleh was on
00:56 the ground to observe the polling process for the by-election. He said he was confident
01:01 that turnout would reach the 70% target when voting ends at 6pm. The Election Commission
01:07 has appointed 312 officers to be on duty for the voting process.
