00:00 >> The hops are back in the
00:02 ballroom on "Dance with the
00:04 stars."
00:05 We couldn't be more excited.
00:07 >> Joining us now, Derek Cuff.
00:09 What's up, man?
00:10 I like to see you and your
00:12 sister working together right
00:13 there.
00:13 How does it feel to be working
00:15 with your sister again?
00:16 >> It's great, man.
00:17 You know, I just can't seem to
00:19 shake her, you know?
00:20 But, no, honestly, it was so
00:21 fantastic.
00:22 She did an incredible job.
00:23 And it just felt right.
00:24 The energy in the room felt
00:26 great.
00:27 And she's not, you know, shy of
00:29 calling us out immediately on
00:31 night one, you know?
00:32 She was like, I don't think
00:33 those scores match the comments.
00:35 I was like, well, thanks a lot,
00:36 Jules.
00:37 >> I'm so glad the ballroom is
00:38 back.
00:39 Who should we keep our eye on
00:40 this season?
00:41 >> There are some -- there
00:42 definitely are some front
00:43 runners, I think, out of the
00:44 gate.
00:45 I think Charity was fantastic.
00:47 I think Sochi is great.
00:50 Ariana.
00:51 You know, there's some really
00:53 good -- actually, and Jason
00:55 Mraz.
00:56 >> He surprised me.
00:57 I didn't know it was going to
00:58 be him.
00:59 >> He kind of blew me away.
01:01 He was super natural.
01:02 Lele was fantastic.
01:03 I think she's going to be --
01:04 she has a lot of potential.
01:05 >> You know what's crazy?
01:06 This is like night one.
01:07 This used to be the end of the
01:08 season when you would get that
01:09 good.
01:10 Now everybody comes out -- used
01:11 to be you kind of came out
01:12 really herky-jerky night one.
01:13 >> There were a few of those as
01:14 well.
01:15 >> Yeah, definitely.
01:16 That's the production value
01:17 that has gone up since night
01:18 one.
01:19 >> That's for sure.
01:20 >> Last time we saw you, Derek,
01:21 you got married, so
01:22 congratulations.
01:23 >> That's right.
01:24 >> Yay!
01:25 >> Oh, I didn't see the ring.
01:26 >> Did she ride anything in the
01:27 ring?
01:28 >> There actually is.
01:29 Yes, there's actually a diamond
01:30 and her birthstone inside.
01:32 >> You got a diamond inside?
01:33 Let me see that.
01:34 >> Inside.
01:35 >> Let me see that.
01:36 >> You got to do it inside.
01:37 I don't want to be too flashy.
01:38 I want to be like --
01:39 >> I never seen a diamond
01:40 inside.
01:41 Okay.
01:42 >> That's cool.
01:43 >> It won't go up because it's
01:44 like, you're married enough.
01:45 You're married enough.
01:46 >> He just wanted to show that
01:48 his fingers were flat on mine.
01:50 >> That's a broken knuckle.
01:51 This is what happens when you do
01:52 that.
01:53 When you start breaking your
01:54 fingers, you get rubber.
01:55 >> Oh, that's so true.
01:56 >> I should have been married a
01:57 long time.
01:58 >> So prior to the wedding,
01:59 which I want to get to because
02:01 you all got married in a forest.
02:03 >> It was so beautiful.
02:04 >> I heard you had a six-day
02:06 co-ed bachelor/bachelorette
02:08 party.
02:09 >> Yeah.
02:10 >> What's up with that?
02:11 She didn't let you go solo?
02:12 >> No, we had a friend.
02:13 He has a beautiful boat.
02:15 And we were kind of on this
02:17 crazy adventure with all our
02:19 friends and bachelor and
02:21 bachelorette parties.
02:22 But we were like the typical,
02:24 like, you know, booze and all
02:26 that.
02:27 We did like escape rooms.
02:28 >> That's cool.
02:29 >> We were dressed like pirates
02:30 and running around the boat.
02:32 >> You did that sans booze?
02:34 >> No, no, no.
02:35 We're not like --
02:36 >> You're not big partiers.
02:38 >> Not like that.
02:39 >> Got it.
02:40 >> Our version of a party was
02:41 doing escape rooms where in the
02:43 middle of the night we're on a
02:45 tender on a deserted island
02:46 digging up a treasure.
02:47 >> Really escaping.
02:48 >> Wow.
02:49 >> It was crazy.
02:50 We were divided with
02:51 walkie-talkies.
02:52 What's this code say?
02:53 You're in the galley.
02:54 What's cooking over here?
02:55 Jumping into the water at night.
02:57 It was --
02:58 >> That's cool.
02:59 >> We're a bunch of nerds.
03:00 >> I love that.
03:01 But the wedding was wild.
03:03 Did mark ballast, we heard he
03:04 got you crowd surfing in the
03:05 middle of the wedding.
03:06 >> Yes, he did.
03:07 His best man speech was honestly
03:09 the opening monologue of a film.
03:11 It was incredible.
03:12 And by the end of it, we were
03:14 crowd surfing and they were
03:15 lifting me up.
03:16 It was wild.
03:17 It was such a great time.
03:18 I actually just got the video
03:20 from the videographers
03:21 recently.
03:22 And it wasn't like a -- it just
03:24 looks like -- it's just like a
03:26 movie.
03:27 It's really incredible.
03:28 But it wasn't like a cry.
03:30 I was like -- there's an ugly
03:32 cry on the floor.
03:33 This is so beautiful.
03:34 I love this.
03:35 >> When they put it to music and
03:37 you see it all back, it just
03:38 adds so much emotion.
03:39 >> That's amazing.
03:40 >> I like that you guys have
03:41 been friends for such a long
03:42 time.
03:43 >> He had a lot of stories.
03:44 >> I bet he did.
03:45 I remember last time you said
03:47 people might be expecting you to
03:49 have this production of a first
03:51 dance.
03:52 Did you keep it low key?
03:53 >> We did.
03:54 What was interesting is we
03:55 went to this 100-year-old barn
03:57 and we were in there by
03:59 ourselves.
04:00 And there were these giant barn
04:01 doors.
04:02 We started our dance by ourself.
04:04 And then they opened the doors
04:05 and everybody rushed in and
04:07 joined our first dance
04:08 essentially.
04:09 >> Look at that.
04:10 >> It was an intimate moment.
04:12 What's cool is we didn't do any
04:14 performance.
04:15 We just danced with each other.
04:17 But for our tour that we're
04:18 doing, coming up right now, we're
04:20 actually dancing to our first
04:21 song.
04:22 But it's a choreographed dance.
04:24 It's more of a performance.
04:25 >> Now that's a production.
04:26 >> We live our first dance with
04:28 everybody on the road.
04:29 >> That's cool.
04:30 >> Speaking of which, let's talk
04:31 about that.
04:32 Symphony of dance.
04:33 >> Yes.
04:34 >> Right?
04:35 Tour has been going -- or it's
04:36 going to continue now to continue
04:38 going on.
04:39 I think you end in L.A.,
04:40 correct?
04:41 >> Yes.
04:42 We start October 2nd in Salt
04:44 Lake City and we're hitting 59
04:46 cities all across the country.
04:47 >> With your wife.
04:48 >> With my beautiful wife.
04:49 >> That's so cool.
04:50 >> And also just an amazing cast
04:52 of dancers.
04:53 >> That's awesome.
04:54 >> Amazing band.
04:55 The set is -- the lighting.
04:57 It's a full, full Broadway
04:58 production.
04:59 It really is.
05:00 >> Did you overextend yourself?
05:02 I've heard about some of these
05:03 dancers.
05:04 Some of these dances, it looks
05:05 quite something.
05:06 >> It's the most challenging,
05:08 most -- yeah, the choreography
05:11 is intricate.
05:12 It's some of the most difficult
05:14 things I've ever done.
05:15 Lifts and tricks and concepts
05:17 with props.
05:19 It's full out.
05:20 But I'm so excited to share it
05:21 with everybody.
05:22 I'm so passionate about it.
05:24 My favorite thing about touring
05:26 is that shared experience with
05:27 the audience, being on stage.
05:29 And, yeah, but I'll be going
05:31 back and forth, dancing with
05:33 the stars and on tour.
05:34 >> Look at that.
05:35 >> So whoever is seeing the show
05:37 can tell me, I hate your
05:38 scores, man.
05:39 They can tell me in person.
05:40 You were terrible.
05:41 >> And you're traveling with
05:42 your wife.
05:43 We can't wait for a little huff
05:45 baby.
05:46 >> You know?
05:47 >> Pressure, Hoover.
05:48 Can't put the pressure --
05:51 >> We'll be on time.
05:52 >> He can't have her pregnant
05:53 on stage right there doing all
05:54 that stuff.
05:55 >> She can do all those things.
05:56 >> Afterwards.
05:57 >> We'll get on it.
05:58 >> Congrats on everything.
05:59 Great to see you as always.
