Transcript
00:00 Both Sunderland and Middlesbrough are in a rich vein of form in the Championship at the moment.
00:06 On weir side, Tony Mowbray's team have been winning games despite nursing several injuries.
00:12 Mowbray commented on Sunderland's recent results, the importance of the crowd and his equal number in Michael Carrick.
00:20 You're one of the form teams in the Championship at the moment, I think that's fair to say.
00:24 Even though form can be irrelevant in games like this with a bit of rivalry, surely you're going into this in the best way possible?
00:30 I think so, I think we've got some pretty key players injured at the moment to be honest.
00:39 Yet the lads who've come in have kept the momentum going and we've been pretty consistent with our performance.
00:47 Even the game we lost against Carrick, the performance level was pretty consistent.
00:54 We believe we've got into this game, given good account of ourselves and that doesn't necessarily mean you're going to win of course.
01:00 Just on the crowd there, how important will they be tomorrow?
01:03 They're always important, it's an amazing place to come and play.
01:07 I talk to the players about that, who do you play for? Do you play for yourself, do you play for your family?
01:14 Do you play for the supporters? The supporters make it an emotional occasion.
01:19 Every football match will run away and it's important that we find performances to make sure that if they've travelled a long way and spent a lot of money to come and watch us,
01:28 that they see their support and the team that's fighting and working hard to try and win a football match.
01:36 Have you been impressed with the job Michael Carrick's done at Middlesbrough?
01:39 I feel the thing that you can't be any less impressed really.
01:44 People started asking questions, seven games without a win at the start of the season.
01:50 On the back of losing a lot of high-quality football in the last year, again, it's part of the reason why you have to be careful with loans.
02:00 Meanwhile, down the A19 in Middlesbrough, Michael Carrick was once again a beat going into the fixture,
02:06 as his side continue to build on their good form.
02:09 Michael, they say form goes out the window in games like this, but with yourself and Son and both in good form at the moment, what sort of game are you expecting?
02:17 It's hard to say really. I think I said it last week, it's very difficult to predict what type of game it's going to be.
02:24 I think goals have an impact in games, if there's an early goal either way, momentum can shift, can swing.
02:31 It's been mentioned that Son and Darren are in good form, Tony Wilbury's got them playing some very good football,
02:36 but what weaknesses do you see in them and how can you go about imposing yourself in that game?
02:41 It's not for me to sit here and tell you that.
02:44 There'll be things that they can look at, they can try and utilise certain things, we look at them as well,
02:54 and there's certain things that will try and make a difference in the game.
02:58 We're here at East Harbour, kicks off at 12.30 on Saturday at the Stadium of Light.
