Gordon Hayward 10.5.23
Transcript
00:00 My young rookie over here did a good job.
00:03 I really like how we've been competing though, honestly.
00:07 We obviously have a lot still to work on, but the energy's been great.
00:10 The competitiveness has been great.
00:11 I think that's what you like to see.
00:13 >> Is there a difference this year compared to last year in terms of some of
00:17 the things that have happened?
00:18 >> Yeah, I mean, I feel like we've been more focused throughout the whole practice.
00:23 A lot of times we would lose focus last year for a little bit, but
00:26 I feel like for the most part, our practice isn't even locked in.
00:29 >> Brandon mentioned you as one of the veterans, kind of showing him the way.
00:33 You were in Boston, Jason Tatum was breaking into the league there.
00:35 Is there any similarities you see between Brandon at this stage and
00:38 other guys that have gone on to do some pretty good things?
00:41 >> Yeah, you know what, I said it, I think on media day, but
00:44 his ability to play in the pocket, his poise, his playmaking ability,
00:47 I think is something that he's got way ahead of a lot of other guys.
00:53 He'll score and he'll be able to do those things, but
00:55 his ability to make reads in the pocket and make passes over the top,
00:59 he's got a big brain, that's been impressive.
01:02 >> What's it like to have somebody like him?
01:03 He seems like he's just a happy kid, you know what I mean?
01:06 >> Yeah.
01:07 >> What's it like, just give me a little bit of a, maybe a few minutes ago,
01:10 what's it like having him around?
01:11 Kind of just the spirit where you got out,
01:13 it's just a little different than what it was the last couple years around you.
01:15 >> Yeah, we got a lot of happy kids on the team, honestly.
01:19 But he's certainly one of them.
01:20 He keeps me young.
01:21 Like I said, the energy's been great.
01:23 And that's what you really wanna see in a training camp is tough days.
01:27 We're competing, we're going hard, and the energy's been good.
01:31 >> Coach had mentioned scrimmaging for you guys and how he likes that,
01:34 to kinda, I guess, get you guys in shape, as opposed to doing drills.
01:37 So, literally, how do you feel about that?
01:40 How would scrimmaging help you more than drills or something like that?
01:43 >> Yeah, I mean, I think as long as we're playing the right way,
01:46 then it's really good for us.
01:48 You gotta kinda find your legs.
01:49 There's nothing like playing in a basketball setting.
01:54 And even then, once we get to the real games, your adrenaline will be higher.
01:57 And we'll have to work through some of those.
01:58 That's kinda what the preseason is for.
02:00 But nothing compares to actually getting up and down the court playing basketball.
02:04 So it's been fun.
02:06 >> What's it like to have him last back here?
02:07 I know guys have been around for a month or so, but how's it for you guys?
02:11 What's it like seeing him out there?
02:12 How's it for them, guys, so far?
02:14 >> Yeah, it's been great.
02:15 Honestly, it's like he's never left.
02:17 The way he's been, he knows a lot of the same stuff that we're doing.
02:21 And he's gonna bring so much versatility for us.
02:24 Being able to guard multiple positions, handle the ball, be a good screener,
02:28 a roller, obviously a slasher and a cutter.
02:32 But he provides lots of versatility.
02:34 >> You mentioned before how other summary team have been rehabbing injuries that
02:39 really wasn't the case this time.
02:40 Where do you feel you're doing well in the game right now?
02:42 >> I feel good.
02:44 My body's held up during training camp so far, which is nice.
02:46 And so I feel really good.
02:48 >> Are you around in the third team, second team?
02:51 [INAUDIBLE]
02:58 >> Yeah, I do remember it.
03:01 It's always good to see faces and old teammates and kind of circling back.
03:06 But it's a small league, so you're bound to have teammates that you had prior.
03:10 And I've known him since Indiana too, so.
03:12 [INAUDIBLE]
03:22 >> Yeah, it's great.
03:28 It's great to see, like I said, he's a little younger.
03:31 He can really shoot the rock and I think he's done a good job of making plays
03:35 that went well here in training camp.
03:36 So it's good to see him.
