00:00 This time on Roadkill, the Apollo's gonna run 11s.
00:04 Surprise! The Ratson's broke again!
00:12 [Music]
00:34 Behind the scenes at Roadkill, you'll see a conversation with every single episode.
00:39 We're just hashing out what we want to do, and generally that becomes like what's most fun for us.
00:44 Yes! Got it!
00:50 And this time we had an opportunity to go to a half-mile drag race in Arizona.
00:54 We're like, "Oh man, this is gonna be cool, but what car should we bring?"
00:57 And we're talking about it, and Finnegan really wants to bring the Ratson,
01:01 which we just brought back to life with a 5-liter V8 and a turbo in our last episode.
01:06 And I wanted to bring the Impala, and he's like, "You seriously think the Impala's faster than the Ratson?"
01:11 And I'm like, "Yeah, I think it could be."
01:13 I hate the Impala. I don't want to drive the Impala. It's a death trap.
01:16 But I will race the Impala.
01:18 So we are going to line up both of these cars at a drag strip,
01:21 and then at a longer half-mile course at an airport.
01:24 And we're going to find out once and for all, which is the faster car.
01:28 This is a '69 Chevy Impala with a blown big block Chevy.
01:33 And if you saw episode 60, you know that we tore a stock 350 out of this thing
01:37 and installed the engine from the Crusher Camaro from a long time ago.
01:41 And we threw it together in two and a half days, and we skipped a lot of steps.
01:46 So I have a lot to do here.
01:48 Primarily, the alternator. This thing ran without a charging system last time.
01:52 Gotta change the oil.
01:53 The other biggie is that we gotta get this thing spinning both rear tires.
01:56 It's a one-legger right now, so I'm gonna throw in some 342s and a Posi.
02:00 I'm gonna put mufflers on it, 'cause I drove the thing to San Diego with open headers last time.
02:04 And a bunch of little stuff, like the lights don't work,
02:07 it needs shocks so that I don't die, probably gauges,
02:10 and I think I'm gonna put the hood on this thing.
02:12 So, I have a lot more to do than finna go.
02:15 As with most things on Roadkill, I'm going to be fixing things
02:18 that we probably shouldn't have broke in the first place.
02:20 Like the torrential downpour of motor oil that exits the hater pipe and lands on the windshield.
02:26 We at one point had an electric scavenge pump that sucked the oil out of the turbo and put it back in the pan.
02:32 We lost that. So, I need that again. So I'll be buying another one.
02:37 We've had rat poop cars before, but this thing is epic.
02:40 Look at that. It is disgusting.
02:44 Full hantavirus.
02:46 I don't even wanna breathe it.
02:48 This reminds me of when I was a kid and never cleaned out my hamster's cage.
02:55 Blech.
02:57 Lots of history with the Rotson here.
03:01 You first saw this in 2014 in episode 26 of Roadkill.
03:05 It had a 4.3 liter V6 taken from a Chevy S10 and a 5-speed.
03:09 We took a turbo off of a Ford Powerstroke diesel pickup and made our own turbo kit.
03:14 And this car was a rocket for a short amount of time.
03:18 For the next several years, all we did was break it.
03:20 We were so sick of the engine that we literally took it out of the car and beat it to death.
03:24 Since then, in the last episode, you know that we bought a couple of Fox Body Mustangs,
03:29 took the drivetrain out of one, put it in the Rotson, which fits remarkably well,
03:33 and kept the turbo. And this thing now is unbelievably fast.
03:38 Oh, dude! Oh, wow!
03:43 And dangerous. It still handles poorly.
03:45 The aerodynamics are worse than they ever have been because half of the body is gone.
03:50 I'm genuinely frightened to take this thing half-mile roll racing.
03:54 So we're going to have to address a few of these issues before I put the pedal to the metal for that far of a distance.
04:00 Oh, yeah. It's already safer.
04:07 Wasted. Complete junk.
04:18 It's not coming off. There's something over here.
04:21 It's still caught.
04:26 Got it.
04:30 Whew. Alright.
04:35 This is the old radiator out of the Crusher Camaro.
04:38 We butchered it into the Impala for this last episode.
04:44 But the thing is, surprisingly enough, the Camaro radiator is wider than the Impala radiator.
04:49 Or at least the Crusher radiator was wider than the Impala will take.
04:53 And I want to put the hood back on, so this isn't going to work, and the ratchet straps are butch.
04:57 So I'm going to put a new Griffin radiator in this thing.
05:01 Some of that's hitting the bucket.
05:05 Ratchet straps are like the next level of zip ties, if you really think about it.
05:09 Oh, look at this fancy radiator adapter here.
05:13 That is genuine gaffer tape wrapped around to create a spacer.
05:17 Yeah, the fan kind of went bad. Check this out.
05:21 Wrecking my nice aluminum radiator.
05:26 The most well-known horrible thing we did to this car is we ran the thing last time with no charging system at all.
05:33 Couldn't go more than a few miles without having to change the battery.
05:37 It was a pain in the neck.
05:38 I searched and searched trying to find an alternative bracket that would work for this thing without having to deal with the header
05:43 and dealing with the short water pump and the blower drive and everything.
05:46 I called this company called Black Mountain, and the guy Ron owns the place is a roadkill fan.
05:51 He was like, "I know exactly what you're doing, and so I'll go ahead and take my really nice billet piece
05:56 and just fog it black for you and send it on its way," which is exactly what he did.
06:05 I realized that if I could raise the carburetor up about a half inch more,
06:10 that would raise the charge tube up about a half inch more and allow me to leave more of the hood intact.
06:16 Can it go on the pin?
06:28 Mm-hmm.
06:29 Lower the front a little. There you go.
06:34 Ha!
06:35 It's way better.
06:36 Yeah, right?
06:37 Yep.
06:38 Shop manager Kalen found our old scavenge pump, which we thought we had lost.
06:42 Apparently, we didn't.
06:43 So I can put this in the car, and this will suck the oil that's feeding into the turbo back out of the turbo
06:49 and put it back in the motor, thus stopping the whole make it rain thing on the windshield.
06:55 Ooh, it's tight.
07:00 If that radiator cap doesn't hit the hood, it'll be perfect.
07:03 The best part about working on a car like this is everything's so bent.
07:11 There's really no wrong way to line it up and install it.
07:13 Just the fact that it's back on there means it's perfect.
07:16 Oh, it looks way better than with the new chin spoiler.
07:20 Put the wing on it and the hatch, go get it dyno tuned, ready to race.
07:25 It'll be way ahead of me.
07:26 The downside of gaff taping.
07:28 The downside of gaff tape is a radiator hose spacer.
07:32 There's so many things we do that you should never do at home.
07:36 It's kind of ridiculous.
07:38 This is the last piece of the Rotson puzzle.
07:43 I bolt this onto that hatch tomorrow morning, and then it's off to West Tech
07:47 to make sure this is not going to explode during our race.
07:51 Yeah, I'm done here.
07:54 Ha ha!
07:55 This thing was just wallowing so badly that I felt like getting some shocks for it,
08:00 even if they are, like, super cheapies.
08:03 I have to admit I've got trepidation about running this thing
08:06 because I think it could go 140 miles an hour in a half mile.
08:10 Sort of a wild guess.
08:12 That's kind of scary.
08:16 But I'll have the Monroe Magnum protecting me, right?
08:20 Or whatever this is. Monroe-matic.
08:24 Okay, list.
08:26 Filter, fuses.
08:29 I'm going to say lights work is probably going to be optional.
08:33 Hood, optional.
08:35 Steering wheel nut, I would like to consider that not optional.
08:38 When it comes down to it, we have proven exhaust system is optional.
08:41 The real biggies tomorrow are going to be putting the rear end back in the car
08:47 and installing a complete exhaust system.
08:50 Everything else is just stuff.
08:53 I think the Ratsan has a significant advantage today.
08:57 You're right. I'm going to go dynotune this and make it run perfect.
09:01 And meanwhile, I'm so far behind on the Impala.
09:05 Lucky came in to save my life.
09:07 I have a long list of stuff to do, including get the rear end back in the car,
09:11 get the exhaust system on there, and fiddle with just a whole bunch of tiny things.
09:15 But it's keeping me from getting the Impala done,
09:17 and so you're going to run this thing out to West Tech and dynotune it,
09:20 which there's a lot of power left in this thing.
09:22 I think so.
09:23 We don't know where the timing is, and wasn't it running at like 10 to 1 off the charts on the gauge?
09:27 Yeah.
09:28 Don't blow it up on the dyno. Don't blow it up at the drag strip.
09:32 Go ahead and blow it up at the half mile.
09:34 Glory.
09:35 Yeah.
09:36 What if the spoiler's crooked and aerodynamically you end up steering yourself off track?
09:44 Have you seen the alignment on this car?
09:46 Maybe this will counteract the alignment and it'll go perfectly straight.
09:50 I have legitimate fear of the Radson now.
09:52 Because it has a wing?
09:54 Yeah, that's what took me right over the edge.
09:57 Oh, you know what? We have to weigh these things.
09:59 We can probably do that at Tucson, because I'm dying to know.
10:01 It's power to weight ratio. How close are the two cars?
10:05 I actually never started the car since I started working on it again,
10:11 so this may or may not work right now.
10:15 Dude, it fired right up.
10:17 Finnegan got all the work done on the Radson,
10:20 and so he gets to go out to West Tech and put his car on the chassis dyno.
10:24 Oh, it sounds so good.
10:29 There you go. Do you need help?
10:36 Good.
10:37 Okay.
10:38 Wow, that was easy.
10:41 I'm exhausted.
10:42 Break time.
10:43 Our 12-bolt rear end is back.
10:45 I had them put 342 gears in it, and it's got, I think, an Eaton limited slip.
10:50 Frank at South Bay 4x4 made this happen overnight, which was super, super rad.
10:54 How are we going to do this?
10:55 Do you want to lower the car onto it or put this onto the screw jacks?
10:57 Well, you hold it up, and I'll put the bolts in.
10:59 Okay, I got it.
11:00 Ready?
11:01 Tony could have done it.
11:02 Oh, yeah.
11:03 So we'll lower it and then put the top ones in, and then lift the car back up,
11:07 and then use the screw jacks.
11:09 Good call.
11:10 Done.
11:12 Okay, lift the car.
11:13 So anyone here from Finnegan, do you have any idea about the horsepower?
11:19 Nope.
11:20 I've never heard of it.
11:21 Wait, you mean, do you know if he made it out there?
11:24 That's a better question.
11:26 I'm here at West Tech Performance.
11:33 We've strapped the ROTS into the dyno to find out how much power does it make,
11:37 how much can it make,
11:39 and how do we prevent it from splitting the engine block in half?
11:42 And as usual, it arrived here not quite ready to go.
11:45 As you can see, Ish has already torn the motor apart to fix things that we screwed up,
11:50 and I'll blame lack of sleep on this while we were working on it back at our place.
11:54 [Music]
12:12 Whoa!
12:13 That made 482 pound feet of torque at the tires.
12:18 Very first pull.
12:19 Lots of tuning left to do.
12:21 We put almost 500 pound feet of torque to the tires.
12:24 Now, this is 302 cubic inches with a turbo robbed from a giant Ford Power Stroke diesel engine.
12:32 David has, I think, 465 cubic inches with a Roots blower on top of it,
12:38 and I know that thing is a legit 650 horsepower motor,
12:42 but it's in a land yacht, and we're not done here.
12:45 So by the end of this dyno session, I'll make the same power he's making in a car that weighs nothing.
12:51 We got this whole junk bolted together.
12:53 We're going to drop the thing down on jack stands,
12:55 and only then are we going to tighten up all of the bolts so we don't bind a bushing.
12:59 Then we got to bleed the brakes and make an exhaust system.
13:02 [Music]
13:09 Wow, big moment.
13:11 We're down to the point of rolling it off the lift, and it's just tiny stuff.
13:14 We're tacking it, water in the radiator.
13:17 This could be the first time in the history of Roadkill I crossed every item off the list, and you know why?
13:23 Lucky and Kaelin.
13:25 If this works out great, lucky and Kaelin.
13:28 When it sucks, I don't know, somebody else.
13:31 Fiberger-Finnegan deal.
13:33 [Music]
13:40 [Engine revving]
13:48 Oh, I like that.
13:50 It is on like Donkey Kong.
13:53 We are done dyno tuning, and we have 500 pound feet of torque to the back tires.
13:58 Do you know how light this car is?
14:00 It's going to be a rocket.
14:02 Fiberger is in so much trouble.
14:04 Good night, Rotson.
14:06 [Music]
14:17 It's as done as it's going to get, which is really, really far done, thanks to Kaelin and Lucky.
14:21 And so we're going to fire it up.
14:23 Ready?
14:25 [Engine revving]
14:27 Nice.
14:29 [Engine revving]
14:35 Look at this.
14:36 First time in Roadkill history, every single item marked off the list.
14:43 That's what happens when you bring in help.
14:45 Finnegan won't tell me what horsepower it made today.
14:48 I doubt he'll ever tell me, and so he's leaving me in the lurch.
14:51 But you know what?
14:53 It wins.
14:55 [Music]
15:03 Well, it's road trip day.
15:05 My car is ready.
15:07 Let's see if Dave's is.
15:09 [Engine revving]
15:11 Oh, he put the hood on it.
15:13 Very nice.
15:17 Well, did you bring six batteries, or does it charge itself?
15:20 It charges.
15:21 Full 14 volts.
15:22 Wow.
15:23 We can go to West Tech.
15:24 My car is ready, obviously.
15:27 There is a small window of opportunity, maybe, for you to put this on the dyno.
15:31 I hate to even say that, but that's what a generous guy is.
15:33 That would be really good, because I'm not feeling good about that.
15:36 [Laughter]
15:38 [Engine revving]
15:48 So fortunately, we were able to get in here at West Tech for just a second.
15:52 Run this thing probably once, maybe twice, just to make sure it's safe.
15:56 I really kind of don't want to know how it's going to do compared to the Rats.
16:01 It's not looking good for me.
16:03 Are you seriously going to drive this for a half a mile at wide open throttle?
16:06 No, I don't think so.
16:07 Because I was just going to say you're [bleep] crazy.
16:09 I know.
16:10 I mean, that's just something you read about in a magazine in the tribute category.
16:13 [Laughter]
16:14 I wouldn't drive this boat at wide open throttle for an eighth of a mile.
16:17 [Engine revving]
16:25 I would say incredibly disappointing on power,
16:27 but we know that it's running at like 11.5 to 1 at wide open throttle, which means it's safe.
16:32 But it also means I've got plenty of opportunity to change pulleys around to actually do something.
16:37 I didn't even see the torque number.
16:39 It made 414 horsepower at the tire, which is lame.
16:42 What?
16:43 You don't want to look at the torque number.
16:44 Yeah, it's lame.
16:45 It's incredibly lame.
16:46 I think the problem is the blower's worn out.
16:48 It's barely making any boost.
16:49 I mean, I'm talking like 1 to 2 psi.
16:52 That's not enough to overcome the frictional drag of the blower itself.
16:57 So I've got some work to do if I'm going to come anywhere near the Ratsan.
17:03 That thing would have to be broken in half for me to do well at this point.
17:07 He just took the big wuss pulley off of the supercharger, which had about 61 teeth on it.
17:13 And he's now putting one that has 49 teeth on it.
17:16 Not the move I would have made.
17:17 I would have gone right to 42, the littlest one you could find.
17:20 So the question is, did he already do this in there and tune the motor for the little pulley
17:26 and then switch it back and then come back out here and switch it again in front of me just to trip me out?
17:31 Or is he really that psycho and running the little pulley on the street for no good reason?
17:38 Why he's doing this now is beyond me.
17:40 He's shady.
17:41 You never know with this guy.
17:42 Mike's over there getting competitive, isn't he?
17:45 Mike's over there like freaking out, thinking I'm like stepping up my power, which I am.
17:50 But the problem is I'm stepping it up to probably less than the Ratsan is making.
17:55 So pathetic.
17:57 The problem with what I'm doing here is putting the smaller pulley on the top spins the blower faster and maybe it'll make more boost.
18:03 But the downside is that even on the highway, it's going to beat the air more by spinning the blower faster and heat the air more,
18:12 which eats power, which also will make this thing overheat even more.
18:16 So it's just a bad scenario all the way around.
18:19 And he's back on the dyno again.
18:26 I knew it.
18:28 I like the commitment here.
18:30 I got real lucky because Eric here at West Tech was able to fit me in and is helping me out a lot on the tune-up because we have a bunch of problems.
18:38 This blower is so completely worn out that it's not making any boost.
18:41 We had to change the blower ratio.
18:43 It's only making four pounds.
18:45 And now we're struggling with the fact that I think it's running out of fuel.
18:48 We're feeding the thing with a Holley black pump, but one three-eighths fuel line, and it's not making that much power.
18:54 It's only making like 550, which is super lame.
18:58 At the end of the day here at West Tech, I still don't know what Finnegan made, but comparatively, I have a feeling it's way better than what I did.
19:05 It's probably more heroic.
19:07 The problem here is that my blower is completely wasted.
19:10 The Teflon strips on the rotors aren't sealing anymore, and I've only got four pounds of boost.
19:14 And that means I'm making 465 horsepower to the tires and 514 pound-feet of torque, which might sound okay to some of you,
19:21 but honestly, for a blown big block Chevy, even as tame as this one is with a tiny cam and stuff, it's pretty lame.
19:28 Probably not enough to outrun the Ratsan.
19:30 But the worst part of all of that is now we have to drive to Tucson so that we can be at the drag strip in the morning and find out in the real world what these things really do.
19:39 Man, this is feeling a lot like that pre-Roadkill episode when Finnegan and I drove the blown big block Crusher to Arizona,
19:55 especially the part where it broke down in West Tech's driveway.
19:59 The Ratsan was smoking like a choo-choo train because the little evacuation pump had failed,
20:04 but all we had to do was wire the thing up a little bit differently and we were all good.
20:08 And then it broke down again, which was just a loose alternator mount, and finally we hit the road to Tucson Dragway.
20:15 But we only made it about halfway.
20:17 We're going to stop and spend the night in Blythe, California, and hit it again in the morning.
20:22 So we've got three and a half hours to Tucson.
20:26 Think it'll make it?
20:27 Oh yeah, eventually. Tuesday.
20:30 Okay. Tucson Dragway, here we come!
20:33 That was a record for breakage.
20:46 See this? Sunk a float. Won't start.
20:51 So hit it with a rock or actually take the air cleaner off?
20:55 That's really hard to get off that air cleaner.
20:57 Got a rock?
20:58 You got tools in the trunk, you can hit it with a hammer or something.
21:02 This is a flashback to the very first episode of Roadkill where I was smashing on that Pontiac Catalina carburetor in the middle of nowhere.
21:09 This is maybe a little more high-end than that.
21:11 Okay. I think we're there.
21:22 [Engine revving]
21:26 So this thing has developed a pretty good shake.
21:50 I can't tell if it's the road or the Impala.
21:53 Whoa!
21:57 I'm not getting anywhere near that.
21:58 That is bad!
22:00 Dude, imagine if you had been on the drag strip.
22:02 Oh, I know.
22:12 When we were broken down on the side of the road, a fan stopped by and he immediately hooked us up with a cool alignment shop who was going to save the day.
22:20 Next up, the Impala started idling really badly and I looked into it and it turned out that it had blown out the gasket in between the supercharger and the intake manifold.
22:30 We ended up in the hotel parking lot at night and had to pull the entire blower off the engine to fix the gasket with gaff tape.
22:38 And that sets us up perfectly for tomorrow when we're finally going to race these things at Tucson Dragway.
22:44 We're at Tucson Dragway, where we were supposed to be yesterday and completely didn't make it.
23:02 But they were very cool.
23:04 They opened up this morning.
23:05 It's 6.30 right now.
23:06 We can run until 9.30.
23:08 That's not bad.
23:09 Three hours.
23:10 I'm legit stoked on this.
23:11 You know what?
23:12 The whole keeping the secret from each other has been the greatest thing to me because I'm driving down the road, watching your car.
23:20 You haven't been romping on it as much as you normally would.
23:24 I've sandbagged, I will admit.
23:26 Oh, you've been sandbagging?
23:27 I have been sandbagging.
23:28 I figured that you were just saving it.
23:30 I was.
23:31 I have a suspicion of something I think might be wrong with it.
23:35 It was a sandbag/save trip for me.
23:39 Okay.
23:40 Let me show you something.
23:42 Oh, that is bad.
23:45 That should not happen.
23:46 And you're going to put drag radials on this?
23:48 That there, I believe, has come unbolted, which has happened to us before, even though we've Loctited it before.
23:54 You may be going solo today.
23:57 I'm going to take it apart with whatever tools I can find around here.
24:00 So we drove all the way here knowing you weren't going to be able to run it?
24:04 No, this started last night.
24:05 Oh, okay.
24:07 No, we drove all the way here with me knowing something else that I'm not going to tell you yet, just in case I can fix this.
24:12 Well, can I guess the something else?
24:14 Sure.
24:15 I think you don't have third gear.
24:16 Oh, no, I have third gear.
24:18 Do you have second gear?
24:19 I have all the gears.
24:20 I assumed from watching you drive the thing around that you had broken third gear on the dyno.
24:25 No.
24:26 I really did.
24:27 So you're not going to tell me the other one?
24:28 No, no, not yet, not yet.
24:30 Because you don't know if it's good or bad, the thing I'm holding back, and I'd like to keep holding that back.
24:36 This is going to be interesting.
24:38 We're about to find out half the information I'm dying to know, weight and horsepower.
24:42 Would you wager I weigh half as much?
24:46 Nope.
24:47 I'm going to guess that the Impala is 4,300 pounds, and I'm going to guess that your junk is 2,500 pounds.
24:55 You out of the car, the Impala is 4,600 pounds, and Ratsan is 2,700.
25:05 Okay.
25:06 So you said 4,600.
25:07 I said 4,200.
25:08 Ready to pull it on?
25:09 Yeah.
25:10 4,168 pounds.
25:19 So I was only off by 30 pounds.
25:21 That's way lighter than I thought it would be for a blown motor in a land yacht.
25:25 Yep.
25:26 Wow.
25:27 And the Ratsan is, are you going to be really annoyed that I guessed both cars dead nuts, 2,566.
25:39 Wow.
25:40 Good for me.
25:41 Lighter than I thought it was going to be.
25:42 Now if you could only take it down the drag strip, it'd be really impressive.
25:46 Yeah.
25:47 So the Impala is making 460 horsepower at the rear wheels, which is so lame, and 510 plus pound feet of torque.
25:57 Is that enough to overcome the 1,700 pound weight difference, even knowing that this thing has way more area under the curve?
26:04 I don't think so.
26:05 But now I've got to get into Finnegan's head and wonder what he's thinking about my program and what his strategy is.
26:13 He always accuses me of like cheating and being devious and stuff like that.
26:18 And he knows that I threw a smaller pulley on the thing.
26:21 He probably thinks that I pushed this to its limit.
26:24 And he thinks that engine made 500 horsepower to the tire and the crusher, which it did.
26:29 What he's not counting on is that blower being completely wasted.
26:33 I hope that his strategy is to go as hard as he can thinking I'm making a ton of power, because that'll make the Ratsan either break or lose traction.
26:41 Well, so far so good.
26:43 Not totally wadded up.
26:45 I might get to race.
26:47 And the race is going to be interesting because now I know Dave's car weighs roughly 4,200 pounds.
26:54 And that engine, when it was in the crusher Camaro, made about 525 horsepower to the tires.
26:59 And I'm 1,500 pounds lighter, which means this should accelerate harder.
27:03 But the problem with this car is because it has an independent rear suspension and weak axles, I can't hole shot this thing with a lot of horsepower.
27:12 Otherwise, if the tires grip, it's just going to destroy the stub axles on this thing.
27:16 So does my lightweight make up for the fact that I can't leave with max power?
27:22 Yes.
27:24 Yes.
27:25 I think I win.
27:27 If I can fix this and go racing.
27:29 [MUSIC]
27:33 Were there supposed to be nuts on the back side of those?
27:35 Yeah, they have nuts on the back and they're missing.
27:37 That's all it is.
27:39 You didn't need to take that apart.
27:41 Oh, that's good news.
27:43 Yeah.
27:44 We have about an hour left to track time.
27:46 They've got another event that's coming in here.
27:48 We got to be gone.
27:49 I don't know if Finnegan's going to get that thing fixed or not.
27:51 This has been the most ridiculously difficult slick installation ever.
27:55 With that little eenie meenie jack and the slick won't fit without dropping the rear end.
28:01 So I had to take the shock off.
28:02 It's just like one thing after another.
28:05 [MUSIC]
28:17 You know what the good news is about Tucson Dragway?
28:19 They know us.
28:21 This surprises them not in the least.
28:23 And they're super cool.
28:24 They've got another event going on here, actual points meet.
28:27 But they're going to let us try and run in between rounds.
28:30 And so the pressure's off.
28:31 But we're probably only going to get one, maybe two passes.
28:35 Good news.
28:36 We just figured out how to put a CB joint back together after we dropped all the ball bearings out of it.
28:41 You can go buy a Honda now.
28:42 Yeah.
28:43 No.
28:44 [MUSIC]
29:09 Fixed.
29:10 [MUSIC]
29:36 The games of smoke and mirrors are over and it's time for tire smoke.
29:41 It's the Ratsan versus the Impala.
29:43 The turbo small block Ford versus the blown big block Chevy.
29:48 And Freiburger versus Finnegan.
29:50 [MUSIC]
30:09 Oh, my goodness.
30:11 [LAUGHTER]
30:16 Wow, this thing left way harder than I thought it would.
30:20 Wow-wee.
30:22 Unfortunately, it doesn't pull that good going down the track.
30:25 Woo.
30:26 Apparently, the weak point is not the rear end.
30:29 It's the charge tube because it just blew it completely apart.
30:32 Well, that felt real solid on the launch and I thought weak going down the track.
30:36 It wasn't RPMing as fast as I wanted it to.
30:38 And, of course, now it's hot.
30:40 And we're going to go again because something was wrong with the Datsun.
30:44 But at least the Impala scored a first victory.
30:48 I guess plastic tubing with no bead at the end of it is no match for six pounds of boost.
30:55 [LAUGHTER]
30:57 It's going to be one of those days for the Ratsan.
30:59 Still the best day at work ever.
31:01 [MUSIC]
31:30 [ENGINE ROARING]
31:38 This thing's fast for complete garbage.
31:41 [LAUGHTER]
31:43 [MUSIC]
31:47 Well, that was over fast.
31:50 I think it either broke the input shaft on the trans or it broke something in the driveline
31:54 because all I heard was bang and it stopped moving.
31:57 I didn't push the car with it in gear, so that's never good.
32:01 Ratsan has let us down again.
32:03 [MUSIC]
32:11 Impala wins, basically because Finnegan broke.
32:15 I knew it was my only chance, especially when we found out each other's power numbers.
32:21 This is crazy.
32:23 The Ratsan at six pounds of boost made 493 pound-feet and 429 horsepower to the wheels,
32:30 and it only weighs 2,500 pounds.
32:32 Meanwhile, the Impala only made 460 horsepower.
32:37 But you know what?
32:38 1,185 out of that barge, I'm declaring a win, even if he did break.
32:43 Oh, and that thing that Finnegan was holding back on me, it turns out he did the math,
32:48 because the Subaru rear end that we've got in the Ratsan, it has a 390 to 1 gear ratio in it.
32:54 And he knew he was never going to have the RPM out of that engine to actually run that full half-mile drag race.
33:01 So basically, even if he hadn't broke, the Impala would have won anyway.
33:05 You know why I like this episode?
33:06 It's because I had this queasy feeling about the prior episode
33:10 where the Ratsan was all put together with its turbo 5.0 and didn't break.
33:14 The Ratsan is the car that never fails to fail, so we had to give it another opportunity,
33:19 and sure enough, it broke the transmission in half.
33:21 But what really makes me happy is that I had a chance to improve the Impala.
33:26 Because honestly, we had butchered that thing together when we did the show with Mighty Car Mods and made them drive it.
33:32 Now, it's a little bit less butchered, and it runs 1,185 while pulling a little tiny wheelie on bone stock suspension and slicks.
33:43 To me, that is a rockin' Roadkill car, and we're going to leave that thing sitting around.
33:48 As we do with all of our cars, like the Ratsan, like the Impala, they always come back to race another day.
33:54 And you'll see that on future episodes of Roadkill.

34:30 Sure, why not?
34:32 Uh-oh.
