00:00 Hi, this is Sean Holm with the 4 Wheeler Network and with me today is Mark Allen, head of Jeep
00:07 Design and we're out here in beautiful Moab, Utah at the Easter Jeep Safari in 2017.
00:13 And Mark, once again you have brought out three amazing concept vehicles.
00:17 I know we've asked you this in the past, which ones are your favorite are and you're like
00:21 a proud papa.
00:22 This is your favorite kid.
00:23 Yeah, right.
00:24 You can't choose.
00:25 Oh, you get it.
00:26 But I'm going to go ahead and tell you this one is my favorite this year.
00:27 Yeah, look at this.
00:28 There's a lot of subtleties to this one.
00:31 I think if you see it right away, you sort of get it.
00:33 But if you walk around it, you start to really get it.
00:35 So if you want to give us a walk around, we can kind of see what's so cool about it.
00:40 Well, what we're looking at is what we're calling the quicksand.
00:42 So it's sand because we sort of aimed it at the sand culture, which is like go fast and
00:47 look good doing it.
00:49 So it's a little bit outrageous.
00:50 The theme of it really is hot rod culture.
00:54 Because if you really look at a Wrangler, two-door Wrangler, squint your eyes like there's
00:58 a little bit of early hot rod into that shape.
01:01 So we took a two-door and chopped it exactly too much.
01:04 Yeah, right.
01:05 It's a four-inch chop.
01:06 I would disagree.
01:07 I think it's just enough.
01:09 Yeah.
01:10 A tall guy, his head sticks out at the top, just like an Ed Roth cartoon.
01:13 I love it.
01:14 I love it.
01:15 Stretched the wheel base on it a little bit and took the fenders off of it, and it started
01:18 to get this hot rod vibe.
01:20 One of the big things to incorporate is the staggered tire size.
01:25 32's on the front, 37's on the back, and they're on this sort of Hallebrand style kidney bean.
01:30 It's a real pin drive knockoff.
01:32 And if you know Dow 7, they're painted to be like a Dow 7 coating.
01:37 Star of the show here, 392 Hemi, 6-speed trans.
01:44 Manual trans.
01:45 Manual trans.
01:46 The way it should be.
01:47 8-stack injection and then fender wall headers.
01:48 And that's just like, that's it.
01:51 The headers are actually, they're connected back into a full muffler system.
01:55 You can see a valve here.
01:56 So I've got a loud and obnoxious button on this vehicle.
02:01 So we basically have your traditional hot rod stance.
02:03 You've got staggered wheels.
02:04 Now let's talk about it really quick because there's something cool about it.
02:06 I think a lot of people who've seen the rat rods and the Willy flat fender craze.
02:10 I don't see a rat rod in here.
02:11 We're done with that.
02:12 Oh, is dollar, do I owe you a dollar?
02:13 Yeah, yeah.
02:14 You owe me a dollar.
02:15 Dollar in the jar.
02:16 So if you look at that culture and that kind of style that's been happening, a lot of guys
02:19 will make their Willys flat, flatty, take things off and wider front and rear axles,
02:26 but they don't leave it four wheel drive.
02:27 And what you're able to do is not only is this four wheel drive with a staggered fitment,
02:30 but you geared it in a way so you have the exact same ratio effectively.
02:35 So it can drive in four wheel drive normally, which is not an easy thing to do.
02:38 That's pretty cool.
02:39 Yeah.
02:40 Thank you, Dynatrack.
02:41 Yeah.
02:42 We, we re-geared the axles.
02:44 So it's evened out.
02:45 It works as a fully functional four wheel drive and we're never, never going to come
02:48 out here and fake it.
02:49 It's got to, it's got to work.
02:52 Awesome.
02:53 The, there's lots of cool hot rod details on it.
02:56 Come around to the front.
02:57 You'll see, yeah, there's a, a moon tank here.
02:59 One of my favorite things of this whole vehicle is the moon tank.
03:02 Moon tank.
03:03 Had to have that.
03:04 And inside of it is, yes, there's a Warren 90RC winch stuffed inside and it works.
03:09 Awesome.
03:10 Yeah.
03:11 I mean that, that, that right there, because everybody sees this, you know, this is traditional
03:13 hot rod.
03:14 What you don't expect is that there's a working winch inside.
03:17 That's awesome.
03:18 Yeah.
03:19 You guys, it just seemed so wrong that it was right.
03:21 Well, and the fact that, you know, I've owned a black 4x4 before.
03:25 Yeah.
03:26 It's not your traditional color that you would take out of Moab.
03:28 Not good out here.
03:29 This thing's brown right now.
03:30 But with the, with the chrome and black accents, it's very traditional.
03:33 The roll bar's cool because it's kind of driver centric, like a, like a dragster.
03:38 People think it's chrome.
03:39 It's actually powder coated.
03:40 I think you don't really want to chrome something like that.
03:42 One of the best views of this thing is, is the back.
03:45 Really cool.
03:46 The chop top.
03:47 I think the chop tops are neat because they're actually floating in this hole.
03:50 They sort of looks like a tea bucket in a way, or like an old Scooby-Doo villain car.
03:54 Something like that, right?
03:55 Like.
03:56 Hadn't heard that before.
03:57 That's the, that's the vibe I get is it's the Scooby-Doo villain car.
04:00 Springs hanging out there, the 37s.
04:01 This is cool.
04:02 It's actually the recovery rope inside the very dirty parachute bag.
04:07 Nicely done.
04:08 Yeah.
04:09 Nicely done.
04:10 Very cool.
04:11 Seemed wrong, so we did it.
04:14 And then of course all your aluminum, use of aluminum and flared holes.
04:17 Yeah, lots, lots, it's, you know, black, red, chrome.
04:21 Traditional hot rod.
04:23 Yeah.
04:24 See the cool shift knob?
04:25 Yeah, the shift knob, we got to make sure we check out the shift knob because we got
04:28 a little, I think it's a matchbox hot rod.
04:31 It's got like some hemi engine in it and we encased it in, in acrylic and turned it into
04:36 a shifter.
04:37 And I love the spars on the roof.
04:39 Very cool.
04:40 I mean, that's, that's such a, that's such a cool old hot rod trick.
04:42 Hot rod thing.
04:43 Yeah.
04:44 It's a little bit of a task, you know, to cut your head on your way out.
04:45 Yeah, right.
04:46 How many people have, have gone to the hospital from riding in this thing?
04:50 Real simple gauges.
04:51 The easiest way to do this vehicle was just take all the wiring out of the stock JK.
04:55 We've got enough in there to run the engine and brake lights.
04:58 That's about it.
04:59 Yeah.
05:00 It's all we need.
05:01 Super simple.
05:02 Love the seats.
05:03 Love that you went to the low back buckets.
05:04 Love the aluminum door panels and the flared holes.
05:05 Back to the seats have that as well.
05:07 Yeah.
05:08 Yeah.
05:09 Very cool.
05:10 And then you guys have the ECU.
05:11 This was a blast to make.
05:12 Do you want to fire it up first real quick just so we can hear it?
05:35 Very cool.
05:36 Well, Mark, we, we appreciate your time today showing us one of your new creations and thanks
05:39 for spending time with the 4 Wheeler Network audience.
