00:00 BMW M4 CS.
00:01 And right now, I'm doing 270 kilometers an hour.
00:07 And Johnny--
00:09 Johnny is right behind me.
00:11 And I'm driving the all new 991.2 Porsche 911 GTS.
00:17 And if death row, death row here would get out of my way,
00:20 I'd be in the 300 Club.
00:22 Oh, hey, look at that.
00:23 I'm in the 300 Club.
00:24 [LAUGHTER]
00:28 Woo-hoo!
00:30 Oh, that is moving.
00:32 Woo!
00:34 So the Bob and I were on the ultimate German car guy
00:37 holiday--
00:38 Autobahn, Nürburgring, and some awesome mountain roads
00:42 up in the Alps.
00:43 This is the stuff you dream about.
00:45 Usually, if people ask me, I say the greatest country on
00:48 earth is Italy.
00:49 Not this week.
00:50 This week, it's Germany.
00:51 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:10 [ENGINE REVVING]
01:25 So our contenders for this head-to-head are the new,
01:28 lighter, more powerful, and more focused M4 CS and that
01:32 perennial benchmark, the Porsche 911, here in GTS spec.
01:37 But what makes this car so special?
01:39 Well, it's a car that's been around for a long time.
01:42 It's been around for a long time.
01:43 It's been around for a long time.
01:44 And it's been around for a long time.
01:46 And it's been around for a long time.
01:47 And it's been around for a long time.
01:49 And it's been around for a long time.
01:50 And it's been around for a long time.
01:52 And it's been around for a long time.
01:54 And it's been around for a long time.
01:56 And it's been around for a long time.
01:57 And it's been around for a long time.
01:59 And it's been around for a long time.
02:00 And it's been around for a long time.
02:02 And it's been around for a long time.
02:03 And it's been around for a long time.
02:05 And it's been around for a long time.
02:06 And it's been around for a long time.
02:08 And it's been around for a long time.
02:09 And it's been around for a long time.
02:11 And it's been around for a long time.
02:13 And it's been around for a long time.
02:14 And it's been around for a long time.
02:16 And it's been around for a long time.
02:17 And it's been around for a long time.
02:19 And it's been around for a long time.
02:21 And it's been around for a long time.
02:22 And it's been around for a long time.
02:24 And it's been around for a long time.
02:25 And it's been around for a long time.
02:27 And it's been around for a long time.
02:29 And it's been around for a long time.
02:30 And it's been around for a long time.
02:32 And it's been around for a long time.
02:33 And it's been around for a long time.
02:35 And it's been around for a long time.
02:37 And it's been around for a long time.
02:38 And it's been around for a long time.
02:40 And it's been around for a long time.
02:42 And it's been around for a long time.
02:43 And it's been around for a long time.
02:45 And it's been around for a long time.
02:46 And it's been around for a long time.
02:48 And it's been around for a long time.
02:50 And it's been around for a long time.
02:51 And it's been around for a long time.
02:53 And it's been around for a long time.
02:54 And it's been around for a long time.
02:56 And it's been around for a long time.
02:58 And it's been around for a long time.
02:59 And it's been around for a long time.
03:01 And it's been around for a long time.
03:02 And it's been around for a long time.
03:04 And it's been around for a long time.
03:06 It's right in the middle of the range, 450 horsepower.
03:09 But it just does everything right.
03:11 It follows the classic GTS recipe.
03:14 You get a little bit more power.
03:15 They lower the car.
03:16 And every performance option you can get on the Carrera S
03:20 is included for a slightly lower price.
03:23 In this case, the Porker makes 450 horsepower,
03:26 30 more than the standard S engine.
03:28 Torque is also up by 37 pound feet, from 368 to 405.
03:34 This particular guards red GTS has a few more tricks
03:37 up its sleeve, namely carbon ceramic brakes,
03:39 dynamic chassis control, PDK, and four wheel steering.
03:44 As such, if you were to look up sports car in the dictionary,
03:47 you'd probably find a picture of the car I'm driving.
03:50 Meaning that BMW's got its work cut out for it.
03:53 That's the other crazy thing, man.
03:54 Modern cars are so good.
03:57 Like, if you were going to do this a generation ago,
04:00 and try to hit 300 kilometers an hour, or 302
04:03 in the case of this, that's 190 miles an hour.
04:06 You'd have to rebuild the engine that night.
04:07 The tires would delaminate.
04:09 You'd die of heat stroke.
04:11 Everything would go wrong.
04:12 It would never happen.
04:13 Now, no problem.
04:15 And now I can use Bluetooth and navigation.
04:19 And just everything works.
04:20 I'm comfortable.
04:21 They're amazing.
04:23 These cars are just absolutely amazing.
04:25 Johnny's right.
04:27 Both of these cars are pretty amazing on the autobahn.
04:30 After a brief spell reveling in hitting near V-max,
04:34 reality sets in.
04:35 We stop for two hours straight as a crash is cleaned up.
04:38 And then the rain comes, and just more frustration.
04:42 Fortunately, that sat nav Johnny is so impressed with,
04:45 well, it's leading us to a much, much better location.
04:49 And rumor has it that the sun is smiling on the Nürburgring.
04:52 We are here.
04:55 We have made it.
04:55 We're at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
04:57 In fact, we're at a corner called Brunchen,
04:59 which you're familiar with,
05:00 because if you've ever seen a spy shot taken at the Nürburgring,
05:03 it was taken, yeah, just over there.
05:05 Listen, if you are a car guy or girl, you've got to come here.
05:09 It's the greatest place on earth.
05:12 Believe us, we've checked.
05:13 And the best thing about it, it's just so accessible.
05:16 There's people over here just watching.
05:18 If you bring your own car, any car, hire a car,
05:20 caravan, a supercar, doesn't matter.
05:22 You pay 27 euros.
05:24 You get to do it out.
05:24 That's like 30 bucks.
05:26 And you get to drive on the greatest racetrack
05:28 that there has ever been.
05:29 So let's go do that right now.
05:31 No, no, no, no, no.
05:32 The public labs are great, but it's a zoo.
05:34 Yeah.
05:34 We want to do it properly.
05:36 I've got a friend called Darren.
05:37 He runs something called Destination Nürburgring.
05:39 No bikes, no caravans, just cars, open pit lane.
05:43 And we're doing that tomorrow in our cars.
05:45 That's awesome.
05:46 But what are we doing tonight?
05:48 Steak on a stone at the Pistenklaus.
05:50 The Pistenklaus!
05:51 Cool!
05:52 How many things in life have never disappointed you?
05:57 I can think of exactly none, save for the Nürburgring.
06:01 It's 12.9 miles of automotive paradise.
06:04 2017 marks the ring's 90th year in business,
06:08 and it's still the car world's benchmark.
06:10 All serious manufacturers develop their serious cars here.
06:15 You have to.
06:15 Not only has a vehicle's Nürburgring lap time
06:19 become as important as its 0 to 60 number,
06:22 but it's said that one mile at speed on the Nordschleife
06:25 is the equivalent of 1,000 miles on a conventional road.
06:29 Still, the ring is more than that.
06:32 The culture that surrounds this place fills me with joy.
06:36 Even after only a few hours here,
06:38 you realize you are surrounded by an entire community of people
06:41 who have never said, "500 horsepower?
06:44 When are you ever going to use that?"
06:45 The Nürburgring really and truly is car guy and gal nirvana.
06:51 Even the gas station.
06:52 The gas station is awesome.
06:54 Why?
06:55 Because in it, you'll find what has to be
06:57 the best toy car store in the world.
07:00 They even had two cars with Death Row's name on them.
07:03 Talk about home away from home.
07:05 And yeah, the stake on a stone at the Pistenklaas, 100% worth it.
07:10 And today, we get to experience it at its best.
07:24 Destination Nürburgring run open pit lane track days here,
07:28 and they are fantastic.
07:30 Unlimited track time, courteous drivers,
07:32 and that community spirit Johnny mentioned
07:35 is overflowing in the car parks,
07:37 packed with fantastic and often battle-hardened cars.
07:40 Oh, and it is really hot and sunny.
07:43 This never happens.
07:45 First up, the M4 CS, and Johnny is driving,
07:49 and he is not hanging around.
07:51 [MUSIC]
07:55 So before we start,
07:57 we should have a little bit of appreciation for the weather.
07:59 Oh my God.
08:00 This is not normal Nürburgring weather.
08:02 No, there's no rain,
08:03 and I sit here with confidence that it's not going to rain.
08:06 Regardless of the weather,
08:08 this place is still the ultimate test.
08:11 So the M4, if it works here, it should work anywhere.
08:15 Right.
08:15 And if it's going to justify its price tag,
08:17 it's got to be here as well.
08:19 I've driven a bunch of these M4s,
08:21 and with the exception of that GTS,
08:24 which is a whole other price point,
08:25 and they only made like 800 of them or whatever.
08:27 Yeah.
08:28 This is good.
08:29 This is good.
08:30 You know, I was really kind of impressed with the M4 competition.
08:34 Yeah, I think for me,
08:36 the first lot of M4s I drove were just nowhere.
08:39 They were, they didn't feel like they had control or anything.
08:42 Then the competition really improved it a lot.
08:45 I loved the GTS when it was set up perfectly,
08:48 which was rarely.
08:49 But it seems to me, yeah,
08:51 they're trying to bring some of that GTS excitement into the normal car,
08:55 but make it work on more than like one specific GP circuit.
09:00 Yeah. And I mean, look, we're, you know,
09:02 literally on the Nordschleife,
09:03 but it's working, man.
09:05 It's totally working.
09:06 So we've got Cup 2 tyres,
09:07 so a lot more grip, I'd say, than the standard car.
09:10 Great grip.
09:11 And you know, once the tyre pressure's really come up,
09:13 wonderful grip.
09:14 Yeah, they've revised the suspension.
09:17 It's good.
09:18 You know, you don't get much understeer,
09:20 a little bit in the really, you know, kind of hairy stuff.
09:23 But...
09:23 So I've driven all sorts of stuff around here
09:25 and I can have fun in a 90 horsepower high car
09:29 or a terrible SUV or whatever.
09:31 But this is real fun because it does feel to me
09:35 more serious, more capable, more stable than the competition pack.
09:40 It's a really fast car.
09:40 So the power's up.
09:41 It's, what is it, 453 horsepower?
09:44 Yeah, but I mean, that almost doesn't sound a lot,
09:46 but it feels quick and it's just instant as well.
09:49 There's so much throttle response.
09:51 Yeah, they've done a good job.
09:53 I used to, like, not care for this engine,
09:54 but I gotta say, it's really scooting this thing around the track well.
09:58 Yeah, and they've even made it sound almost good.
10:02 Almost good.
10:02 Not brilliant.
10:03 Hey, that's a huge improvement for a 3,700, 3,750, 800 pound car.
10:09 Like, I mean, we're just whipping around this track, you know?
10:12 Yeah, I guess that's it.
10:13 You only start to feel the weight over some of the quick bumps.
10:16 It just feels a bit fidgety.
10:18 You want it to land or just deal with the compression,
10:22 and sometimes it doesn't.
10:23 It scoots around a bit on you.
10:24 The only time I'm having a real problem with it is on, like, big curving.
10:29 Uh, the back end, like, hops.
10:30 So the other thing for me, so I'm slightly disappointed in the brakes.
10:34 Yeah.
10:35 I think you just feel the weight at high speed.
10:37 The gearbox, it's starting to feel a bit old-fashioned somehow, the gearbox.
10:42 Right, the old-fashioned dual-clutch.
10:43 It's stupid, but to me, it feels like they've revised it for this car
10:49 and made it more aggressive.
10:50 So in top mode, it punches really hard.
10:52 Yeah, yeah, because there's three positions for shifting.
10:55 But it's too hard, and then you dial it back one position,
10:57 and it's a bit too soft, a bit too auto-like.
10:59 So it's not quite got the sweet spot.
11:02 I gotta say, for an M4, I mean, I am very impressed.
11:06 Yeah, yeah.
11:06 Was not expecting this.
11:08 It's starting to justify what it costs,
11:10 but we need to jump in the Porsche to see if it can really play with the big boys.
11:15 Oh, we need to jump in the Porsche on the Nürburgring.
11:18 We have to.
11:18 We have to.
11:19 That's our job, man.
11:20 Go to the Porsche!
11:21 Wow.
11:23 The CS really is a different and better sort of M4,
11:27 and it is awesome on the Nordschleife.
11:30 No wonder it ran a 7-minute, 35-second lap in BMW's testing,
11:34 right on the heels of cars named Pagani and Koenigsegg.
11:38 You know what, though?
11:39 Porsche claims that this 911 GTS can run a 7-minute, 24-second lap,
11:44 which is quicker than a Ferrari Enzo and neck-and-neck with a Gumpert Apollo.
11:49 But can us normal folks feel the difference between the two?
11:52 There's only one way to find out.
11:54 This car just feels so hooked up straight away, as soon as you leave the paddock, basically.
12:05 It's just got that Porsche thing of absolute precision and accuracy,
12:11 but still feedback, and no one else does it like them.
12:14 That's my feeling.
12:15 Well, let's just cut to the chase, right?
12:16 So the 911 starts about here, you know.
12:20 The poor BMW starts out as a 320 down here,
12:23 and then they got to, like, add stuff to make it quicker.
12:26 Exactly.
12:26 But this one's already, like, you know, this is the GTS,
12:29 so it's already, like, you know, the Carrera S has been on the market for a couple years.
12:33 All the options everybody wants, the performance stuff,
12:36 they've tweaked it, they've lowered it, it's got more power.
12:38 Like, it's just, it's kind of the perfect weapon.
12:41 I think as a bridge between a Carrera S and a GT3,
12:45 it just works really, really well.
12:48 It's just so smooth.
12:51 I gotta say, though, forget about a bridge between them,
12:53 because with the extra torque from the turbo...
12:55 True.
12:56 This might be quicker.
12:57 I mean, honestly, this might be quicker than a GT3.
13:00 I think it probably is.
13:01 It probably is for most people.
13:03 But just, it's just so in control of itself,
13:07 and that almost sounds boring, but it isn't.
13:09 So down here in the BMW, you start to move around because of the weight,
13:14 because the damping's not quite as good.
13:15 The Porsche is just completely nailed.
13:19 It's just nailed, but it isn't, it doesn't feel boring.
13:22 It doesn't feel like it's doing it for me.
13:24 So you just hit a ton of curving, right?
13:26 So in the BMW, that rear end was not happy, right?
13:30 You'd hit the curving, and it would just move around,
13:33 and wheels in the air, and then the traction wouldn't kick in.
13:37 This loves it.
13:39 You could just abuse the curving.
13:42 It does.
13:42 I mean, there's a reason why every car in the car park is a 911.
13:46 Yeah.
13:46 I mean, it feels built for it.
13:49 It soaks it up.
13:50 It's just...
13:52 I'm actually shocked how good it is.
13:54 The rear-wheel steer is an option on this car, right?
13:57 But it just, it works.
13:58 It's almost invisible.
13:59 It just means these tight corners, you don't need much steering angle.
14:03 The car's nailed in.
14:04 And it just goes exactly where you want all the time, which is just so impressive.
14:11 Right, right.
14:11 It's just built to do this.
14:13 Right.
14:13 It starts out as a sports car.
14:15 Yeah, and it wants to do it all day, all day.
14:17 It just keeps going.
14:18 The brakes, just the pedal is perfect, and it never changes.
14:23 No matter how hard you use them, it's the same.
14:26 Well, you know, there's that old cliche, like a car is only as good as its brakes.
14:30 And in this case, that's kind of the biggest difference between this and the BMW.
14:35 You know, it's like these brakes, you just trust them inherently.
14:38 You never think about it.
14:39 With the BMW, the pedal's getting longer.
14:42 Yeah.
14:42 You know, and...
14:43 I trust the whole car.
14:44 Everything I touch on this car feels like it was developed here for people who want to
14:50 really enjoy the car at maximum attack.
14:52 And that's, to me, that's what's really important.
14:56 This thing, whatever you do, there's a test driver who's done it before you twice as fast,
15:01 twice as good.
15:02 Right, right.
15:03 And it shows.
15:04 But we should also talk about, you know, the weight advantage is gigantic.
15:07 And the BMW is a larger car, right?
15:09 The M4 has the actual back seat.
15:11 You can put people in.
15:12 This is for luggage only.
15:14 But there's about a 300-pound difference.
15:17 Yeah, yeah.
15:17 But it feels like a 600 or 700-pound difference.
15:20 You just feel a bit more on top of the car.
15:22 But yes, certainly over the bumps, when you're turning into corners, it feels lighter.
15:27 There's just a natural, like, athletic feeling to the car.
15:31 And you just pass everything.
15:32 I mean, there's so...
15:33 It's hard to explain how potent this engine is.
15:36 Yeah, nice.
15:36 You know, and it's like 30 more horsepower than a Carrera S, like 37 more pound-feet
15:41 of torque.
15:42 But it feels like a stage up, you know, it really does.
15:45 That's always been the case with the GTS, right?
15:48 It's like the best of breed.
15:49 Yeah.
15:50 And it comes out after the regular car, after the Turbo, after the GT3, you know.
15:55 And, uh...
15:56 Sorry, I was trying to be philosophical, and now I'm like, "Wow, we were just hauling ass."
16:04 But anyways, you know what I mean?
16:06 So they've worked the kinks out of everything else.
16:08 Yeah.
16:08 This is, they take everything they've learned from all the development, and that's what
16:12 your GTS is.
16:13 And it's kind of a good bargain, too.
16:15 What we're talking about, though, is around the Nurburgring, right?
16:17 This is like a very hardcore, different, weird environment.
16:22 This is not a normal place to take a car, right?
16:24 Exactly.
16:25 We're very spoiled and lucky we get to do this.
16:28 This car feels perfect for here, right on the limit or near the limit.
16:32 The question for me with these new 991s, does it feel exciting enough on the street when
16:38 you're just driving the car?
16:39 Does it still feel like a sports car?
16:41 Well, there's a road I've been hearing about.
16:44 It's in another country, but it's close by.
16:48 You're a small man.
16:49 It's hard to leave the Nurburgring.
16:53 It always is.
16:54 But doing so with the cars in one piece, well, that feels good.
16:57 We bid the guys at Destination Nurburgring goodbye and head south to Austria and a road
17:03 with a glacier at its summit.
17:04 I guess that should have been a clue that it could be pretty cold and miserable.
17:08 But hey, we've done rain on the autobahn, sunshine on the world's best track.
17:13 So why not snow on a mountain pass with no safety barriers?
17:17 So we're 9,000 feet up in the air in a winter storm in late August.
17:22 Yeah, beautiful weather.
17:24 On a glacier in Austria.
17:25 So I think in these conditions, there's no way any car can be boring.
17:29 So to answer the question, is the 911 GTS boring on the road?
17:34 No, not even a little bit.
17:35 No, especially not today.
17:37 No.
17:37 Now, you've spent a lot more time in it than me on the road trip down from Germany.
17:42 But even the brief time I've spent in it, yeah, it's just not boring.
17:47 It's just good.
17:47 It's just so complete.
17:50 It's got so much good stuff going for it.
17:52 And you want to keep picking holes in it.
17:55 But where you find them, it's tough.
17:57 Look, so the one knock I can think of is that it's not necessarily a 911 in the traditional
18:04 sense, right?
18:04 So rear engine cars, they have a lot of advantages, right?
18:07 You've got all the weight on the back tire.
18:09 So acceleration's better.
18:11 Braking's inherently better.
18:12 Traction.
18:13 Yeah.
18:14 There's certain disadvantages they always had, right?
18:16 They'd have this lift off, oversteer.
18:18 They've eliminated that, really starting with the 997 or 996.
18:22 And it's gone with the 991.
18:24 Like, it just-- the car does not behave badly.
18:27 I mean, I love 911s.
18:29 I guess my only question mark, if you erase all the foibles of rear engine behavior, do
18:34 you erase some of the character as well?
18:36 I think if it was a bad car, sure, we can make that argument.
18:40 But it's not bad.
18:41 It's a really exciting car.
18:42 I mean, I cannot get, like, dropping in the foxhole or whatever on the Nürburgring in
18:48 this thing.
18:48 You can't say this is a bad car.
18:50 You can't say, like, oh, I don't like this.
18:52 Like, it's absolutely incredible.
18:54 What a machine.
18:55 I think it's worth saying that even in the lifespan of the 991, they've made massive
19:01 improvements.
19:01 Oh, the second gear.
19:03 The steering.
19:03 The sense that this car is a 911 again, it's got some of that back.
19:09 And even when you go turbocharged and everything, the engine doesn't take away from the fact
19:15 that they've improved everything upper level in terms of ability.
19:20 And also, I think they've dialed back some of the character as well.
19:22 They've got some of that back.
19:23 You know, everyone goes crazy.
19:24 Oh, they turbocharged it.
19:26 But there's so much torque that it's worth whatever sacrifice in sound there might be.
19:30 And with the sport exhaust, it's good enough.
19:33 Let's be honest.
19:33 It sounds good enough.
19:35 We've both driven the new GT3.
19:38 That starts to get back to a little bit of the classic 911 stuff, right?
19:41 You get a little bit of lift off oversteer.
19:43 That's got some edge.
19:44 Yeah.
19:44 That's got some edge.
19:45 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:46 That engine shapes any engine.
19:48 But you're talking about driving them back to back.
19:50 In isolation, you might miss the normally aspirated engine if you used to have a screamer,
19:56 an old engine.
19:57 This is a wonderful twin turbo flat six with more torque than I know what to do with half
20:02 the time.
20:02 Yeah, but what's great, it's not just a big, big fat hit of torque.
20:06 It feels like you can meter out the performance, too.
20:09 You can still be accurate with it.
20:10 And that's what this car is all about.
20:12 It puts you in control.
20:13 This car does everything, but there's no compromise.
20:15 That's what's cool.
20:16 How does it do that?
20:17 It does.
20:17 It covers all these bases, but it isn't making a compromise.
20:20 So it still feels like a pure sports car.
20:22 Yeah, they've done a remarkable job.
20:24 I guess if there is a knock, and let's try and really figure this out, is that when you're
20:28 on a road trip, it kind of becomes a luxury car.
20:31 Now, there's nothing wrong with luxury cars, but it may be for a couple hours a day, it
20:35 doesn't feel special.
20:37 There are times that I forget I'm driving a 911 GTS.
20:40 I'm just driving a shrunken Panamera, maybe, right?
20:43 It's just like a nice Porsche.
20:45 In the M4, I think you always know you're in an M product.
20:50 Yeah, it's just-- that's the one chink of light for the M4 for me.
20:55 You can forget you're in a 911 in this car.
20:58 The M4, like you say, it feels special.
21:01 They've found the ingredients to make it feel like a proper sports car the whole time.
21:06 Even with rain, snow, hail, goats, and God knows what else being thrown at us, the CS
21:14 remains the M4 you want to own.
21:17 It's the best one.
21:18 End of story.
21:19 The question is whether that's enough to overcome the talent and might of the blood-red Porsche.
21:25 Well, Jethro, your British rain has turned to Austrian snow.
21:30 It's gorgeous.
21:31 I can't believe it.
21:33 At least we have got cup two tires.
21:35 Yeah.
21:35 So we are well-equipped to deal with this situation.
21:38 Frozen cup two tires.
21:39 No, but I mean, you cannot say this is boring in any way, shape, or form.
21:44 And I think what we were saying in the 911, you feel that in this car.
21:48 You feel that it is compromised to a certain extent by the extreme tires, by the fact it's
21:54 got this crazy whatever it is, hemp door cards that have no storage.
21:58 Nothing to hold on to other than a stupid strap.
22:01 Yeah, and they are sort of ridiculous, but they give the car something different.
22:06 Special.
22:06 And it needs that because to compete with the 911, it's such a complete car now.
22:11 To compete with it like toe-to-toe in every area, I don't think that's going to happen.
22:15 So this car, it needs to be something different.
22:18 And that's what it feels like.
22:20 It feels like a different proposition.
22:21 More extreme.
22:22 Yeah.
22:23 Still usable, but it's got just a bit more craziness to it.
22:27 Yeah, no, look, to me, this feels more like a GT3 than the GTS does, right?
22:32 You have less sound insulation.
22:34 The ride, it's not bad, but it's a firm, flinty ride.
22:38 It's up on its knuckles, you know?
22:39 Yeah.
22:40 And it feels real sporty, even at low speeds like this.
22:43 And it's louder, and you get a little tire.
22:46 And yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a little angry.
22:48 And it's kind of a really cool thing.
22:50 It is cool.
22:51 And like I say, you have to make some compromises.
22:54 But you get little spikes of excitement that you--
22:58 [ENGINE REVVING]
22:59 OK.
22:59 [LAUGHTER]
23:00 Or a big spike.
23:01 Or a big spike.
23:02 But there aren't that many cars now, and certainly there aren't any Porsches,
23:05 where in a straight line in third gear, trying to control on, when you hit the torque,
23:10 it lights up the tires.
23:12 It's like this thing--
23:13 I mean, traction limited, yes, but it keeps you awake,
23:18 and it makes you feel like you're in something special.
23:20 And I sort of like that about it.
23:22 This is the first M product in a long time.
23:25 Really, for me, since the X6M, where I'm like, it's mental.
23:29 It's really crazy.
23:30 And I like that.
23:31 And it's got some decent noise.
23:34 It's got some spiky characteristics.
23:36 But basically, it's trustworthy.
23:38 Maybe not in snow on cup tube tires, but basically, it's trustworthy.
23:41 But it's fun.
23:42 And it's actually got that sense of motorsport back.
23:45 But I would say that the M is back with this car.
23:49 It's just got that feeling that you've bought something different and special,
23:52 and you are reminded every second of every drive.
23:55 That's what's cool.
23:55 And that's where it does score a little bit over the GTS, actually.
23:59 I'm surprised to say that, but it does.
24:01 All right.
24:02 So now comes the tricky part.
24:04 Which car wins this head-to-head?
24:06 It's a lot closer than I thought.
24:07 It is a lot closer than I thought.
24:09 However, BMW ran up against a juggernaut, right?
24:12 I mean, the 911 is just so damn good.
24:16 It's about as good as a sports car gets.
24:18 Let's be very clear and very honest about that, right?
24:20 You judge every car against the 911.
24:22 Yeah.
24:23 And you drive the GTS, and you remember why.
24:25 It's because it does everything so well.
24:28 Yeah, this gives you little moments of real magic.
24:30 The 911 is just delivering real high heights from the second you turn the engine on
24:37 to the second you turn it off.
24:39 Yeah.
24:39 So the winner of this head-to-head is the Porsche 911 GTS.
24:45 It's just the better car.
24:46 Same old.
24:48 Yeah.
24:49 [LAUGHTER]
24:52 [MUSIC PLAYING]
24:55 [ENGINE REVVING]
24:59 [MUSIC PLAYING]
25:02 (upbeat music)
25:05 [BLANK_AUDIO]
