Notre Dame Defensive Tackles Thriving Makes Linebackers Better
Transcript
00:00 Mostly.
00:01 Here's another reason why it impacts it as well, because when you're getting a push,
00:08 the whole point of playing in the trenches is you are trying, it's kind of similar to
00:14 like old war, right?
00:17 Like here's the front line, you're trying to push it in one direction or the other,
00:22 and you're fighting for territory, right?
00:24 And hey, we gained 10 feet today, all right?
00:27 That's a win.
00:29 And offensive line is trying to reset it in their favor, defensive line is trying to reset
00:33 it in their favor.
00:35 And when your linebackers are getting through the line, three, four yards into the backfield,
00:42 that's a much more effective pressure as opposed to what we had been seeing.
00:45 So like Marist would be coming free against NC State at the line of scrimmage, the quarterback
00:49 still five, six yards away.
00:51 You know what I mean?
00:52 We're now, as soon as, and this is what can make a quarterback, I'll speak to it from
00:56 a quarterback standpoint.
00:57 When I am getting defensive linemen in my face and they're getting pushed, the offensive
01:01 line is getting pushed back, my eyes are naturally going to be kind of, I'm trying to look down
01:07 field but I have this right in front of me, it makes it so much harder for me to see that
01:10 linebacker coming right off his butt.
01:13 And then all of a sudden I don't have anywhere to go.
01:15 And that's when those pressures become more effective from a quarterback.
01:18 And so there is, I've said it a million times, there's nothing more disruptive to a quarterback
01:23 than when pressure comes right up your face.
01:26 There's just nowhere to go with it.
01:28 When Sam Hartman got in trouble on Saturday, when was it Ryan?
01:30 It was pressure was coming right up, right up at him, right up from the inside.
