00:00 Hey, what's up, woman's health?
00:01 I am Tunde Oyine.
00:02 Something I did for myself this morning,
00:04 well, I'm gonna rewind.
00:06 I went to bed really early last night
00:08 so that I could wake up at four o'clock in the morning
00:10 and get in a run on my Peloton treadmill.
00:14 Something that puts me in a good mood,
00:16 it'd have to be my dog, Caesar.
00:18 Every single morning, he makes me feel like necessary,
00:21 like I am vital for his survival,
00:23 and he gives me the best snuggles.
00:25 I hope that my presence as a strong woman,
00:30 as a strong, dark-skinned black woman,
00:35 I hope that continues to resonate within this industry
00:39 so that more strong girls that look like me
00:42 know that we have a place here too.
00:44 I have many mantras.
00:45 I think the mantra that I'm most known for,
00:47 your mind is your strongest muscle.
00:50 Your body can change and your body can do things,
00:53 but first your mind has to tell the body that it's able.
00:57 For me, self-confidence is ever-waving.
01:00 High highs, low lows, high highs, low lows.
01:03 Self-confidence for me is knowing
01:06 that I will always catch my stride again.
01:09 I don't think that consistently staying high is possible.
01:14 How do I find motivation on the hard days?
01:18 I allow myself to feel whatever feeling I'm in.
01:23 So if I'm low, I don't race past that feeling.
01:28 Whether I'm low, whether I feel grief,
01:30 whether I feel joy or happiness or love,
01:33 I allow myself to feel the feeling.
01:36 So on those low days, I allow myself to take the L.
01:39 I think that music is life.
01:44 Like what would living be
01:46 without the frequency of sound and music?
01:50 I think that music dictates a feeling.
01:53 As a fitness instructor, I use music to tell a story.
01:57 I use music to push you through hard moments,
02:01 heavy elements, and then I also use music
02:03 to bring you back down.
02:05 For me, music is life.
02:07 I can't imagine a life without music and beautiful sound.
02:10 Favorite music, oh, favorite song!
02:12 That's such a hard question.
02:13 Beyonce, "Can Never Do Any Wrong."
02:14 I love house music, huge Rufus Dussault fan.
02:18 I love anything that makes you feel.
02:20 Calm Down, Rima, that song is on repeat.
02:23 Afro beats, old school R&B, '90s R&B.
02:26 New school R&B is making a come up.
02:28 I love music, clearly.
02:31 My wellness must have, this is not a shameless plug
02:33 because they signed my paychecks, but Peloton.
02:36 Like I depend on that treadmill and that bike.
02:41 Peloton, Peloton treadmill, specifically.
02:45 Yeah, depend on it, it's life for me.
02:47 My least favorite workout move.
02:49 Six months ago I would have said running,
02:51 but now I love running.
02:52 Eight months ago I would have said burpees,
02:53 but now I love burpees.
02:55 I tend to practice whatever I hate.
02:58 I mean, I guess I still hate a burpee.
02:59 Who am I lying to?
03:00 Burpees.
03:01 [laughs]
03:02 My favorite workout move, a thruster.
03:04 You squat, and then press a weight overhead and a deadlift.
03:07 Make me feel like a badass.
03:08 I like heavy weights in my hand.
03:10 A time that I felt really happy to be in my body.
03:13 Today, right now, I woke up, I have blood in my veins
03:16 and oxygen in my lungs, and I was able to
03:20 walk into this building today.
03:24 Right now, today, I feel really lucky to be in my body.
03:26 I'm alive, I'm here.
03:27 Yeah, I have a scar right above my eyelid
03:32 that's been there since I was like four or five years old,
03:34 and I think my brother threw a roach spray can at me,
03:36 if I remember correctly.
03:37 Thank God I can still see.
03:39 And then I have this like nasty scar on my shin
03:42 that I got in CrossFit, box jumping,
03:46 any CrossFitter knows that that like kinda comes with it.
03:49 Made me really cool among the guys at the gym,
03:51 so that was good.
03:53 I don't have any tattoos.
03:55 I don't know, this luscious chocolate,
03:56 I didn't wanna tamper it.
03:57 My mother passed away at one point,
03:58 I thought about getting her name tattooed on my foot.
04:01 My mother hated tattoos, and so I was like,
04:03 that's probably the last thing
04:06 that she would want me to do to honor her.
04:07 So yeah, I don't have any tattoos.
04:10 But they look really great on other people.
04:13 My favorite thing about my body.
04:17 Growing up, I hated my skin.
04:19 I felt like an other.
04:22 I went to a predominantly white school,
04:23 I saw no one that looked like me,
04:25 including my family members, I was the darkest.
04:27 And so I hated my deep dark skin.
04:30 It is now my favorite thing.
04:32 As a child, you want so desperately
04:34 to fit in with everyone else.
04:36 And then as you grow older, you realize it's the difference,
04:39 it's your differences that make you beautiful.
04:41 And so for me, I know that it's my rich, deep, dark skin
04:45 that makes me beautiful, so I love my skin.
04:47 For anybody that's watching, I'm 37, I am 5'7",
04:51 I enjoy the beach and music and salsa dancing.
04:55 I am single.
04:56 I live in Brooklyn, New York, I have a small dog,
04:58 his name is Cesar, he's 14 years old, he's house trained.
05:01 (upbeat music)
