Dom Smith reacts to Chelsea vs Tottenham in the WSL
Transcript
00:00 Hello and welcome back to Stamford Bridge where Chelsea got the job done and beat Tottenham
00:04 in a London derby 2-1 to open the WSL season title defence with victory here.
00:11 Chelsea had lost four openers in a row for the last four seasons they'd lost the opening
00:16 game.
00:17 In all four of those seasons they'd then gone and won the WSL so who knows what it means
00:22 that they, given that they won the match here today.
00:25 They were the better team really, they were better than Tottenham who came into the game
00:30 I'd say just before half time and also towards the end of the match when they scored a consolation
00:35 goal through Martha Thomas but Chelsea were the dominant side and they were better not
00:40 physically but I would say technically in terms of the players they had on the pitch.
00:44 Certainly when you can call on Lauren James you're always likely to come out on the right
00:47 side of the scoreline and in fact Lauren James was the scorer of Chelsea's second goal that
00:52 was just after half time when Chelsea probably had their most dominant period of the match.
00:56 But the real headlines go to Mia Fishel, the 22-year-old American international who signed
01:02 from the Mexican club Tigres this summer for Chelsea.
01:06 She grew up a Chelsea fan, her family in San Diego in America were all big Chelsea fans
01:13 so a dream come true for her to make her debut here and also to score on her debut.
01:16 She scored a beautiful headed goal in the first half from Neve Charles' cross.
01:21 Neve Charles assisted both of Chelsea's goals actually, both Fishel's header and Lauren
01:26 James' volley.
01:27 Martha Thomas with the consolation goal late on but it meant very little for Spurs who
01:32 played well and certainly the new manager Robert Willeman was pleased with the performance
01:37 but it wasn't enough to get them a result here.
01:40 Chelsea 2, Tottenham 1.
