00:00 Hello, thanks for watching. I'm here in East London, where the borough of Waltham
00:05 Forest has been crowned the best place in the UK to raise a family. The borough nabbed
00:10 top spot in a study conducted by ADT, which compares different areas of the UK and London
00:16 based on safety, school ratings, house prices and bus fares to receive an overall family
00:22 score. The report gave Waltham Forest a rating of 7.23, declared it as one of the best areas
00:28 in London and the UK's top spot to raise a family. I spoke to locals in the area to find
00:34 out what they thought.
00:35 Oh, I think it's got a lot to offer for families. There are some lovely green spaces. There's
00:42 a really vibrant community. There's a fantastic array of different shops. I mean, whether
00:50 you're walking down the market, individual stalls, places to go for families, there are
00:57 lots of small groups, little organic groups that grow up with communities and families
01:02 getting together. Yes, I would recommend it. Let's not pretend it doesn't have its social
01:09 issues. It does have its social issues. Austerity has hit Walthamstow hard, the way it's hit
01:16 everywhere else. So a lot of the facilities that should be available now have to be privately
01:21 funded, which is absolutely ridiculous. But, yeah, come to Walthamstow. It's a great place
01:28 to live.
01:29 There's lots to do. There's lots of things going on. The village area is really quaint
01:36 and cute. It doesn't feel like you're in central London, but you're not that far away, which
01:40 is quite nice. So well connected and yeah, lots to do.
01:44 It's definitely gotten more yummy mummy. It used to be very working class, which is why
01:50 I'm here. It's gotten much more money. Walthamstow village was always very, very posh and good
02:00 restaurants. There's a spa there that's ridiculous for all the stuff you can get in there. But
02:06 yeah, it's become more gentrified, if maybe the word.
02:10 It's definitely a good place to live for families because you're so close to lots of greenery.
02:15 Like we're a five minute walk from open spaces. There's good facilities here. There was a
02:21 cinema, it's gone, which I'm heartbroken about. But yeah, and it's a very friendly environment.
02:28 There's lots of good people around. That's something that I found when I lived here.
02:32 I mean, I don't have a family, but I live in a building with families and it is a good
02:39 place for that.
