00:00 Being a wrestler is all about growing your own personal brand to be as big as possible.
00:05 You are selling yourself at the end of the day, and it's of the utmost importance that
00:08 you are seen, heard and talked about as much as humanly possible if you really want to
00:12 make a splash in this business.
00:15 You can train hard, spend hours in the gym, hone your craft by watching all the tape,
00:20 all in the name of getting spotlight on thyself.
00:23 Or you could just stand in the background of somebody else's shot and make funny faces.
00:26 That, that's essentially what this lot did.
00:29 So I am Gareth here from War Culture Wrestling and here are 10 Wrestlers Who Were Hilariously
00:33 Upstaged By Other Wrestlers.
00:36 10.
00:37 Braun Strowman Gets Upstaged By Kurt Angle
00:39 In 2017, the world's angriest sheep, Braun Strowman got a real taste for flipping vehicles
00:45 and other stuff onto their side.
00:47 He just saw things and went "yeah, eh".
00:49 He most famously did it with an ambulance.
00:52 No, not like that.
00:53 He'll return to the hobby after a short break on the January 15th, 2018 edition of
00:58 Man in a Raw.
01:00 After flipping out at General Manager Kurt Angle, Strowman went on a rampage that saw
01:04 him furiously break into one of the television trucks and chaos ensued.
01:10 After shoving everyone out of the damn thing, Strowman managed to lift the truck up by its
01:14 cab and flip it onto its side in a tremendous display of strength and special effects.
01:20 Unfortunately though, the main thing people tend to remember about this entire moment
01:23 was the lifeless delivery from the GM of one particular line.
01:27 When Angle was told that the monster was on a tear backstage, he remarked how worried
01:32 he was about the vehicle being damaged.
01:34 However, his line about the truck being worth $12 million was delivered with about as much
01:39 enthusiasm as someone reading out the shopping list.
01:42 Angle's cadence and lack of effort when it came to this line just made an entire thing
01:46 that could have been really dramatic and intense feel like goofy comedy.
01:50 9.
01:51 The Miz Gets Upstaged by Damien Mizdow Now this isn't so much a single moment, but
01:56 an entire character/run really.
02:00 One that catapulted Damien Sandow to superstar status… for a bit.
02:04 After falling off the rails after a pretty calamitous run as Mr Money in the Bank, Sandow
02:08 looked to be stuck in yet another dead-end gimmick when he was assigned the role of the
02:12 Miz's stunt double.
02:14 As Damien Mizdow, the former intellectual saviour of the masses, was told to pretty
02:18 much act like Miz, talk like Miz, bump like Miz, be Miz.
02:23 And you know what?
02:24 It was glorious, wasn't it?
02:25 Sandow got hugely over just copying the Miz and doing everything that he did.
02:29 People loved it, they lapped it up.
02:31 And it even got to the point where Mizdow was more popular than the person he was aping.
02:34 I know, what a world.
02:35 And eventually WWE actually got wise to this whole popularity surrounding the Mizdow figure
02:40 and wrote a little bit of jealousy into the Miz, which all culminated in a huge rivalry.
02:45 Something that blew the roof off arenas around the world, they made so much money.
02:49 Only they didn't, did they?
02:51 Because all we got in the end was a nothing match on Raw, and then Sandow just fizzled
02:55 away really.
02:56 Great work, guys.
02:57 8.
02:58 Triple H and JBL get upstaged by the Sandman
03:01 Ah, the Vince McMahon illegitimate son storyline.
03:04 What could have been?
03:06 The long-standing rumour is that The Angle, which of course involved Vince McMahon getting
03:09 blown up in a limousine, was meant to result in the unveiling of a secret son and then
03:14 lead to a battle over control of the company.
03:17 Unfortunately the real-life murders committed by Chris Benoit shortly afterwards painted
03:21 the entire storyline in pretty bad taste.
03:23 Later that year, WWE decided to run the gimmick again though, and it was announced that Vince
03:28 McMahon's baby boy was actually a member of the roster.
03:31 This then led to a segment on Raw where McMahon was fed a ton of clues as to who his potential
03:35 son could be, while loads of people were stood around the ring.
03:39 This would then eliminate suspects, guess who style.
03:41 After determining that his son was fair skin, fair hair, and a former singles champion,
03:46 that left McMahon with just three options.
03:48 Triple H, JBL, or the Sandman.
03:52 Everyone was quite rightly confused by the ECW man still being in the running, and he
03:56 didn't really need to do anything.
03:57 Just him being there was surreal, was bizarre, and made everyone just go "wait, what's
04:01 happening?"
04:02 And while it was distracting for a second, the real winner was of course eventually revealed
04:06 to be Hornswoggle, and I say winner, I'm using quotes.
04:09 Could just imagine a world where we could have had Sand McMahon.
04:13 Print those shirts.
04:14 7.
04:15 Vince McMahon gets upstaged by Paul London
04:17 Harking back to that limo explosion that I literally just mentioned, this very strange
04:21 moment happened just a few seconds before Vince McMahon was blown to Kingdom Come.
04:25 At the end of an appreciation night in his honour because WWE and Vince McMahon, McMahon
04:30 slowly made his way out to the back and into his luxury vehicle, with a sombre mood filling
04:35 the backstage environment.
04:36 Then boom, up in smoke.
04:38 The limo wasn't the only thing that met its end that night though, as a wrestler actually
04:42 reportedly eventually got fired due to McMahon's own skittish tendencies.
04:47 Whilst walking towards his ill-fated car, McMahon passed through a room with many of
04:50 his employees all stood around, looking rather dramatic and just composed, and then Paul
04:55 London is doing this.
04:57 And why?
04:58 Why?
04:59 Why is Paul London smiling like that?
05:00 Why?
05:01 I mean it's hilarious, but why?
05:03 Even amongst all the sad faces, the former Cruiserweight Champion is just beaming like
05:07 a Cheshire cat.
05:08 And it is impossible to watch back this already rather bizarre moment without being drawn
05:12 to the grin that reportedly led to him eventually getting released.
05:15 You never fully dress without a smile they say, but London got a proper dressing down
05:19 by The Boss as a result of his.
05:21 6.
05:22 John Cena and Batista get upstaged by Vince McMahon
05:25 Maybe Paul London was just getting revenge for Batista and John Cena because of something
05:29 that went down two and a half years earlier I say.
05:32 As The Boss firmly overshadowed them in the closing stages of the 2005 Royal Rumble.
05:37 In a now infamous moment, Cena and Batista both went over the top rope at the same damn
05:42 time - hitting the floor so closely at exactly the same point that trying to declare a unanimous
05:48 winner was again rather impossible.
05:50 Absolutely enraged at his carefully executed spot at Gone to the Dogs on the night, Vince
05:55 angrily strode down to the ring to start throwing out commands.
05:59 He then slid into the ring and completely blew out one of his legs after he banged it
06:02 against the apron.
06:03 This then led to another surreal visual of Vince sat on the floor barking out orders
06:07 to everybody looking very confused.
06:09 And he just generally distracted from the actual match itself because you had this 60
06:12 year old man, like a very confused, angry toddler sat there going "you do this, come
06:17 here, you go do that" and you got two massive men in Batista and John Cena going "alright
06:21 boss, I don't know what's going on".
06:22 Still, this story has become synonymous with the event.
06:25 Although maybe not for any reason that Vince McMahon would be happy with.
06:28 But when is he ever happy, eh?
06:29 5.
06:30 Hulk Hogan gets upstaged by Shawn Michaels In terms of wrestlers deliberately mucking
06:35 about in matches to get revenge on their in-ring colleagues, there are few more notable or
06:40 hilarious for that matter instances than the one that went down in the main event of SummerSlam
06:44 2005.
06:45 Hulk Hogan was famously very easy to work with and never once wanted to change things
06:49 at the last minute.
06:50 Oh wait, no, no, no, the opposite of that.
06:53 After starting a feud with Shawn Michaels, the Hulkster apparently went back on plans
06:56 to have a trilogy with HBK.
06:58 Instead, he wanted just one match, he then wanted to win it, and he wanted Shawn Michaels
07:03 to turn heel.
07:04 Great.
07:05 However, the Hulkster forgot that he was now dealing with the person who had inherited
07:09 his title of the biggest a-hole backstage.
07:13 And Shawn was about to remind him of that.
07:15 During their one and only encounter at SummerSlam 2005, Shawn oversaw the hell out of the Hulkster's
07:22 offence.
07:23 He turned around like a bungee-jumping salmon, and this all completely ruined any credibility
07:27 the match could have potentially had.
07:29 It is one of the biggest tantrums that wrestling has ever seen in the middle of a ring.
07:32 But you know what, considering what Hulk had done to Shawn and countless other wrestlers
07:36 over the years with his creative control, you have to kinda say that the show stopped
07:40 a lot like it was in the right on the night.
07:41 4.
07:42 A group of legends get upstaged by the Shockmaster
07:45 Fred Altman had a rather decent run in WWE, first as Tugboat and then as Typhoon of the
07:50 Natural Disasters.
07:52 He got a prominent heel turn and reigned as one half of the tag team champions before
07:56 moving over to WCW in 1993.
07:59 And that's when it all went wrong, really.
08:01 Altman was repackaged as the Shockmaster, the mystery team member for the good guys
08:06 heading into the War Games match at that year's Fall Brawl, on an episode of Flair for Gold,
08:11 Sting and Devi Boy Smith trying to introduce their new team member in a grand old fashion.
08:16 The plan was for Altman to burst through a wall accompanied by jets of flame.
08:21 Instead, Altman tripped over the set and fell head first through the wall.
08:24 It would have been absolutely perfect comedy if he hadn't been given such a dramatic
08:28 introduction by his teammates, but that made it even more hilarious but unintentionally.
08:32 You can hear everybody involved in the skit just trying their best to not properly laugh
08:37 and lose it and crack up, they are just holding it down and fair play to them because I would
08:41 not have been able to.
08:42 There was really nothing they could do to save the segment though, as Shockmaster was
08:45 confined to the annals of stupid wrestling history forevermore.
08:48 3.
08:49 Rook gets upstaged by The Rock The original inspiration for this very list
08:54 wouldn't you know and thank you to EvitoQQ for their Reddit post because it inspired
08:58 us whilst getting ready for the faction's upcoming War of Attrition match.
09:03 Nation of Domination leader Farouk cuts a promo backstage with Doc Hendricks.
09:06 And I'd love to tell you what he talks about, but in all honesty I have no idea.
09:11 That's because I, and likely many others, were completely distracted by a young bloke
09:15 named Dwayne Johnson pulling silly faces in the background.
09:19 Just look at him.
09:20 Rock was about 6 months into his new heel-run-attitude type spell after ditching the blue trunks
09:24 and blue chipper attitude.
09:25 However, he quickly outgrew his group that he'd been a part of during that time, the
09:29 Nation of Domination, and you can literally see that happening here.
09:33 So while Farouk's trying to build this match and hype it up, The Rock's just in the background
09:36 going "hmm hmm hmm hmm" and it's brilliant.
09:39 It is literally the basis of about 40% of The Rock memes that you see on Twitter, he
09:43 was just that damn good.
09:44 2.
09:45 The Rock gets upstaged by Mick Foley He might have got a one over on Farouk, but
09:49 even the Great One can get cut down to size from time to time.
09:53 On an episode of Raw in the year 2000, Mick Foley called out his old friend The Rock so
09:58 they could have a chat ahead of WrestleMania.
10:01 The former enemy's turned pals stood opposite one another in the middle of the ring and
10:04 the crowd were loving it.
10:06 They were molten hot.
10:07 The Rock then paid his respects to Foley and said that it was great to have him on the
10:11 show.
10:12 Mick Foley then congratulated The Rock for being a 5 time WWE champ, and he even said
10:16 that that put him in the upper echelons of the sport.
10:19 He then asked a rather fateful question, "How does that make you feel, Rock?"
10:23 Before The Rock could fully utter his reply, Mick Foley responded with "It doesn't matter
10:28 how it makes you feel to a huge pop."
10:30 The Rock had been beaten at his own game and left speechless.
10:34 The champ then began to smile and laugh as Mick Foley had finally been able to get one
10:37 over on the People's Champion.
10:43 1.
10:44 Everyone Gets Upstage by Daniel Bryan
10:46 WWE Champion Randy Orton vs World Heavyweight Champion John Cena.
10:51 Just look at that match.
10:53 And it was a match to unify both of these belts and turn them into the WWE World Heavyweight
10:58 Championship belts of the infinite glory and universe in all of the magic and multiverses
11:02 ever to exist on this planet.
11:04 So ahead of this historic night, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon hosted a segment to
11:09 really build towards it and celebrate how monumental a moment this was going to be.
11:12 So we have both of these competitors there, and just to add a bit more prestige to the
11:15 evening in general, the power couple had every single former world champion they currently
11:19 had on their books on the roster and had them stand around the ring all looking at the two
11:24 champions coming head to head and just looking and making faces.
11:27 On this night, they just did not count on one thing though.
11:30 This episode of Raw was taking place in Washington, the home state of Daniel Bryan.
11:36 Bryan was at the peak of his popularity at this moment in time, and the audience that
11:42 night just completely hijacked the entire segment, chanting for Bryan at every chance
11:47 they got and derailing anything that the company previously had planned.
11:51 And to make matters worse, Mark Henry lifted his hand up and was like "yeah, Daniel Bryan"
11:55 and everyone was like "Mark, no, don't do that, they're going to kill you man".
11:58 Now this can be seen as one of the many moments that led to WWE being forced to throw Mr.
12:03 Bryan into the main event of WrestleMania 30 of course.
12:05 At the time though, it was just really sweet to see an entire arena backing their hometown
12:10 boy and forcing him into the spotlight.
12:13 Even if it did come at a dozen people's expense, but you know, funny though.
