There are concerns that sweet and fruit flavour vapes could be getting children addicted to nicotine. Government ministers have now launched a review that could see these varieties banded.

We have sent camera teams out across the country to gather people’s opnions on the proposed move.

00:00 Well, I'm a nurse, so I think it's terrible.
00:06 It's just not good to put things in your lungs that don't belong there.
00:09 I understand some people have a nicotine dependence, but there's ways to work around that that
00:15 aren't going to damage your lungs beyond repair.
00:18 With the way the market vapes towards young people, I think they do, like it's bright
00:22 and colorful and they have a lot of different sweet sounding flavors like cotton candy and
00:27 cookies and cream, then obviously I think it would fall in the hands of the younger
00:31 generation.
00:32 So I think it's probably got plenty of negative health effects, but yet they're still not
00:36 fully developed or fully researched.
00:38 I haven't got any grandchildren yet, but I feel a little bit worried about children at
00:42 school all using vapes and everything.
00:45 And I just think, what's it doing to the next generation really?
00:49 My sister did it.
00:50 She stopped smoking by using vapes years and years ago, and she's never gone back to it.
00:56 I can't believe the amount of vape shops that are on, just actual shops just dedicated to
01:01 vapes.
01:02 I mean, how are they going to run if all this thing is locked away?
01:05 It's not going to happen.
01:06 It's not going to happen.
01:07 And if it does, it's not going to make any difference because it's a massive craze.
01:11 And if kids want them and whoever wants them, they're going to get them.
01:14 I think people originally thought it was less bad than smoking, so that's why they latched
01:19 onto it.
01:20 And now they're sort of realizing it's not as good as they thought it was going to be.
01:24 But I do think it's good to discourage younger people from...
01:28 Yeah.
01:29 Yeah.
01:30 Because a lot of children vape, and I don't think that's right.
01:32 But I guess it's the same as smoking.
01:34 If you want to do it, you'll do it.
01:35 You'll get away to doing it.
01:37 Nothing that I know of to suggest that they're not harmful to young developing brains.
01:43 It's developing a nicotine addict and an addiction to a substance that we know is not helpful
01:49 to children.
01:50 I just think kids have got enough problems without having to give up vaping at some time
01:54 in their life.
01:55 So it's a hard world for them at the minute.
01:57 So I just think, yeah, it's not really what they need.
02:01 I think if you want to stop smoking, the best way is to maybe willpower and flip patches.
02:08 The only thing I can say is ban them all together.
02:12 Because vapes for the kids are no good.
02:14 If people are going to vape, they're going to vape regardless.
02:17 Whether they get them online, dodgily online, they're going to get them regardless.
02:22 So having them on hand in a shop would be a lot safer.
02:27 At least then you know what you're buying is safe.
02:30 And it helps shops out really because they sell well.
02:32 It's a really big problem and they should definitely do more to stop it.
02:35 So I think they should definitely ban disposable vapes.
02:37 I know they were talking about that, especially because the refillable ones is definitely
02:41 more what people who are actually trying to quit smoking use.
02:44 I mean, after all, it's not good for your health.
02:48 Hiding them.
02:49 I don't think that's a bad idea.
02:50 Particularly these fruit flavoured ones are very tempting to younger people.
02:56 And once you're on that path, I think it's hard to get off it really.
03:00 And nobody knows the long term consequences, do they?
03:03 Yet.
