The Australian Rugby League Commission and Prime Minister, Hon Anthony Albanese MP, have announced that Australian Men's and Women's Prime Minister's XIII squad will face PNG PM's XIII squads at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday 23 September. The men's Prime Minister's XIII will feature eight representatives from the 2022 World Cup-winning Kangaroos squad for the first Prime Minister's XIII match in PNG since 2018. The Women's Prime XIII was selected with aim giving an opportunity to some of the best up and coming players in NRLW, alongside a number established representative players such as Kennedy Cherrington, Botille Vette-Welsh and Tallisha Harden. "Being Prime Minister is a great honor. I enjoy every part of job, but the fun part is choosing Prime Minister's XIII parties." “These competitions represent much more than just a few football games. Papua New Guinea and Australia are our closest neighbors and we are best friends. We all work together to build a more prosperous, stable and peaceful region. Rugby League is an opportunity to celebrate our friendship and strengthen our partnership. ARLC President Peter V'landyscongratulated all the players on being selected for a special team. "These players have performed exceptionally well throughout season and have earned the opportunity to wear green and gold jersey for Australia," Mr V'landys said. “I congratulate the players selected for both teams, as representing your country is the greatest achievement. "It's also an inspiration to fans in Australia and of course fans in PNG, where rugby league means so much." Australian Men's Premier XIII Coach Mal Meninga said the match would provide a selection guide ahead of the first Pacific Championships in October and November. "This squad is a mix of last year's World Cup experience, this year's additional State of Origin players and the younger players we want to see at this level," Meninga said. “There was pretty unanimous agreement among the selections and I can't wait to see this group test themselves in the green and gold.” Australian Women's Prime XIII Coach Brad Donald said the Prime XIII will provide opportunities for players to both further their representative goals and enjoy a very unique experience. “It's a really balanced team, featuring some of our First Nations Gems players, emerging talent from the NRLW competition and a handful of Jillaroos representatives who will be key leaders,” Donald said. The Prime Minister's XIII concept aims to use rugby league to drive social awareness messages. This year's event will also see promotion of Australian school boys girls undertaking our Little Dunes Orchids respectively, with support from Australian Government, through Department of Foreign Affairs Trade NRL.
