Surprise wedding at Beech Hall Care Home in Leeds

  • last year
This is the heart-warming moment when Jacqui Stevenson, 76, married long-term partner Roland Waring, 96, in a surprise wedding at Beech Hall Care Home in Leeds.

Jacqui, who has advanced dementia, has lived at the home since 2020. The couple had planned to marry after Roland proposed four years ago, but social distancing rules meant that it was impossible.

The elaborate surprise wedding on September 26 was masterminded by staff at the home in Armley, who knew that the couple had been waiting years to say "I do".

Ex-serviceman Roland, who has terminal cancer, was told by carers to arrive at the home wearing his best suit, as there was reason for a meeting.

Meanwhile, the couple's family and friends were sneaked into the venue as staff helped to get the bride ready - leaving the 96-year-old completely stunned.
