It's become a great British tradition - the takeaway. One in five of us order a delivery at least once a month and more than half of us claim to love them. I'm here in Birmingham, a city known for it's culinary diversity, to find out from the people here what their favourite sort of takeaway is.

00:00 My favorite takeaway is probably Indian takeaway. I think in Birmingham it's the
00:04 best food that we've got going on anyway and although I like Chinese food I think
00:08 that's always better when you get it in the restaurant. When you get it delivered
00:12 it's normally a sloppy oily kind of mess or something and it's not the fresh food
00:17 that Chinese food should be really but I think a curry, I don't know, when it gets
00:21 delivered it's still good, it's better for the next day or something as well so
00:24 I think there's so much choice and things like that and it's the best one
00:27 to still wait for because I think when you order a burger you're paying the
00:32 restaurant prices for one and it gets delivered later when you want it and
00:36 it's not warm and stuff like that so I think that's a bit of a waste of money.
00:38 Chinese, Chinese fangyuan. McDonald's all the time. I went every day last week which is
00:46 not something I'm proud of but it's nice. Probably Indian. I work in a pub too, it's an Indian pub.
00:54 Indian, it's more flavours. Yeah, it's Indian, there's more flavours and it's more spicy.
01:03 I've had it like every Friday, it's Friday takeaway night.
01:11 My favourite takeaway unfortunately is McDonald's. I really, really love, I really love
01:17 junk food I'm afraid and it has increased since Covid I think because of
01:21 the convenience so I haven't used apps like Just Eat or anything like that
01:26 so I find that sometimes the wait's a bit longer because of all
01:31 those apps sort of thing but I just love it and that's my favourite.
01:35 I know there's a lot of other options but I tend to like to do the
01:38 same thing because I know it and it's tried and tested. Do you know what, it's got to be an
01:44 Indian, it's got to be a curry. Love a curry, it's never changed, it's stayed that way
01:48 forever and no, probably my usage is probably about the same, probably high.
01:53 Well since the end of Covid, takeaway services have gone out through the
01:59 window with Uber Eats and all the other delivery bikes and everything else
02:07 that you see around town. I like a good Thai, I like my spice and rice
02:12 but yeah and the multitudes of takeaways in the city, it's just gone crazy.
02:19 You've got all sorts, you can eat out every night of the week if you wanted in a
02:24 different eating establishment. It's really, really good here in Birmingham.
02:28 Yeah. No I don't think it's increased since Covid. It increased during Covid of
02:36 course but I think afterwards, no I always prefer to go out to eat really I
02:41 think rather than spending the money on takeaways I'd always choose to go out.
02:45 It's normally a late bad decision after a few beers or something when a takeaway
02:52 is actually ordered so no I don't think it's increased at all since. I don't think
02:56 it's gone down, it's made you want to go back out more and enjoy the restaurants
03:00 again after not being able to.
