00:00 Up, up and away. The first ever Darwin Kite Festival blowing into town with rave reviews.
00:07 Fabulous, I hope that they continue to do it every year.
00:11 I think it's good for Darwin and I really love the kites, the variety and they're just
00:17 so interesting.
00:19 Among the creations on display, whales, mermaids, dragons and aliens.
00:24 I like the dolphin over there.
00:27 Yeah, what's that?
00:28 It's a kite.
00:30 The eclectic mix of kites, some measuring up to 30 metres, drawing a big crowd to the
00:35 lawns of Cullen Bay.
00:37 From the turnout that's already down here at like 2 o'clock in the peak heat, I think
00:41 people are really keen for it.
00:43 The only trouble is they're already saying it might not be big enough, it's looking that
00:46 popular.
00:47 That's boosting hopes it could become a lasting fixture for Darwin's shoulder season.
00:52 I've been here for 12 years and I think every time a new festival or an event comes in and
00:56 people get behind it and support it, we get to see it a part of our regular calendar.
01:00 The kites are not just in the sky here at the Darwin Kite Festival, they're all around
01:04 us.
01:05 The blustery sea breeze creating ideal conditions for kite flyers.
01:09 It's been amazing, the kids love it and it's a great day out.
01:12 A flying success and hopefully clear skies for next year.
