00:00 They say that there's money in the trash.
00:03 The prestigious work of collecting that was leveled up in the training of TESDA
00:09 to become a professional garbage collector,
00:12 who can be a driver for abroad.
00:15 This is Maki Pulido.
00:17 Larry has been a garbage collector for 7 years.
00:23 I haven't finished my studies.
00:27 There's no other. You just enter and you'll see.
00:32 But what some people think is a life-saving experience,
00:35 TESDA will implement a training program.
00:39 Here at the Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility in Teresa Rizal,
00:43 the pilot program.
00:44 They are the only ones who have the initiative to apply for the program
00:50 under garbage collection.
00:52 This October, the target for the first batch of garbage collectors
00:56 will be 25 trainees,
00:58 who will be the first to open the facility for other citizens.
01:03 They will be taught how to collect garbage at designated areas,
01:06 place garbage inside the truck,
01:09 transport garbage to final disposal,
01:11 and will be taught the proper personal protective equipment.
01:15 The program will last for 18 days.
01:18 There will be lectures in the training center
01:19 and practical training in the material recovery facility.
01:23 Because there's a recycling facility, the trainees will learn this as well.
01:27 Those who finish will receive a national certificate from TESDA.
01:31 This is a big help in applying abroad
01:34 because even Japan and Korea are looking for garbage collectors.
01:38 They have an edge because they have a certificate.
01:42 But Teresa LGU hopes that they will be able to be a good example to the graduates
01:45 in explaining that segregation or separation of garbage
01:50 starts from home.
01:52 If the garbage is small,
01:53 the budget will be reduced for throwing garbage
01:56 in the landfill in Morong Rizal.
01:58 For now, Teresa LGU's budget is 10 million pesos per year for this.
02:03 What will be saved is for the budget for other programs.
02:06 People's behavior will change
02:09 because we have trained people
02:12 who can explain when it comes to segregation.
02:15 But Larry, who hopes for a better life,
02:18 cannot avoid the desire to go abroad.
02:21 It's better here.
02:23 It's just a minimum.
