00:00 Three weeks after the coup, Gabon's transitional government seems intent on putting words into
00:06 action.
00:07 Ten people associated with Ali Bongo's government were placed in custody on Tuesday and stand
00:12 accused of a myriad of corruption-related charges.
00:16 "Falsification of the President's signature, distributing and receiving undue sums, complicity
00:24 in embezzlement of public funds, money laundering, criminal conspiracy, usurping titles and functions."
00:38 The suspects were all arrested during last month's coup, which saw the military overthrow
00:43 long-standing President Ali Bongo.
00:46 They include former members of his cabinet, but also his eldest son, Nouredine Bongo Valentin.
00:52 For many Gabonese, the arrests were a welcome sign of the military's willingness to put
00:56 an end to the impunity of the Bongo era, decades marked by widespread corruption, embezzling
01:02 and bad governance.
01:04 In France, several members of the Bongo family remain under investigation in the so-called
01:08 ill-gotten-goods case.
01:10 They're suspected of having benefited from fraudulently acquired real estate worth an
01:15 estimated 85 million euros.
