00:00 Kate Middleton bends a royal rule while on an official engagement this week.
00:03 While Prince William has been flying solo on the other side of the Atlantic carrying
00:07 out royal duties ahead of November's Earthshot Prize, Kate has remained on UK soil in order
00:12 to complete her own set of activities.
00:14 And for the Princess of Wales, it's been a busy week so far, amid the school run and
00:18 making sure she's available for her three kids every evening, something both Will and
00:22 Kate feel very strongly about.
00:24 The 41-year-old has also filled her days with plenty of charity work, plus the bending of
00:29 a royal rule.
00:30 To unpack, on Monday she arrived at the Royal Naval Air Station in Yeovil after King Charles
00:35 announced her appointment as Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm.
00:38 Then on Tuesday, she headed to Streets of Growth, a youth intervention charity in East
00:42 London to meet the young people at risk of violence, criminality, exploitation and isolation.
00:47 There, she spoke about the importance of understanding their backstory and refraining from judging
00:52 their external behavior.
00:53 It was also where Kate slipped up on one of the royal protocol's "oops" as stopped
00:58 to take selfies with some of the charity members.
01:00 Apparently, when it comes to selfies, it's a pretty grey area within the royal family.
01:05 While they're not forbidden from posing for pics with fans per se, it was reportedly
01:09 something that was frowned upon by Her Majesty.
01:11 Back in 2017, a royal fan who attended the Buckingham Palace Garden Party told Insider
01:16 that taking a selfie with a royal was a sign of disrespect as they didn't want people
01:20 turning their backs to the royal family and the Queen.
01:23 Detailing how it was very important to them, they added, "As well as not turn your back
01:27 on a royal family member, you also do not attempt to walk up and talk to them."
01:32 So if you've ever seen members of the royal family declining selfies in the past, that's
01:36 why.
01:37 Still, it looks like no harm done as both Kate and her fans beamed for the snap as the
01:41 princess wore a huge smile across her face for the duration of her visit.
01:45 Kate Middleton will alter Queen role with informal approach.
01:48 Kate Middleton will assume the role of a Queen consort after Prince William becomes King
01:52 in the future.
01:53 Kate Middleton is advised to follow into the footsteps of the late Queen Elizabeth II when
01:58 she finally assumes the role of a Queen alongside Prince William in the future.
02:02 Speaking to OK, royal expert Jenny Bond dished on the Princess of Wales' traits that make
02:07 her an apt candidate for the future authoritarian role, claiming, "Katherine is becoming more
02:12 assured and confident as every year goes by, and I think she is now very much her own woman.
02:16 However, she would be crazy to ignore the example of a Queen who was so accomplished,
02:21 so wise and experienced in what is a unique, and probably quite lonely, role."
02:25 Bond went to explain that the mom of three will subconsciously draw from the late Queen's
02:29 many qualities as a monarch, including dignity, discretion, and dedication.
02:33 However, she noted Kate will add her own mix of informality when appropriate, in a nod
02:38 to her life as a normal person before she married Prince William.
02:42 Katherine has already shown that she is very relatable, and of course, she has had an entirely
02:46 different upbringing to that of the late Queen and is perfectly aware of what a normal life
02:50 is like, and that will stand her in good stead," the BBC royal correspondent explained.
