A couple sold their house to travel around the world with their family - after the cost of living crisis squeezed their disposable income. Chris and Tamira Hutchinson, from Corby, Northamptonshire, packed their bags and left for Thailand in May.
After the pandemic, the family craved more quality time and the cost of living crisis was the breaking point. The couple sold everything they owned including their house and took their daughters, Olivia, 9, Scarlett, 7, and Bella, 3, on an adventure around the world.

00:00 Three months ago, me and my wife Tamara decided to sell our family home to travel the world with our children.
00:06 We have three children, three girls. We have a nine-year-old, a seven-year-old and a three-year-old.
00:12 And we just made that life-changing decision to sell everything, pack up, leave the UK and travel the world
00:19 and experience as much as we possibly can as a family.
00:23 I'm currently stood here in Koh Samui.
00:26 The UK was just getting so out of hand with cost of living.
00:30 Our weekly shop was getting ridiculous. To fuel the car was just unaffordable.
00:36 We had two cars. We had to go down to one car because it was just getting out of hand.
00:40 It was just becoming impossible to enjoy life in any sort of way.
00:45 We were looking at maybe moving house and getting a bigger house because our family became a family of five.
00:52 But we just couldn't do it without working 24/7 and never seeing our children.
00:58 And we just decided to make the decision to come away from normality
01:03 and to spend time, as much time as possible, as we can with our girls and our family and together.
01:09 And I can actually see my wife and spend time with her every day and see my children grow up
01:15 and go swimming with them and go play with them at the play park or at the beach.
01:18 And these are just things that we just couldn't do in the UK because you would have to work all the time.
01:25 When you weren't working, you were so naffed from working and stressed about bills and affording things.
01:32 And we just got to the point where enough was enough.
01:36 So in terms of making money while traveling, currently we're making a small amount from YouTube.
01:43 We're filming a video today.
01:44 But we built our YouTube channel up for several years before coming here.
01:48 So we have got a slight bit of income coming from that and we're building up our content on social media.
01:53 We also put aside money from the sale of our house to be able to travel.
01:58 The majority of it went in savings but we put a budget aside to travel for the whole year.
02:02 But we are working on our income and looking at online methods of earning money
02:06 to keep us going beyond the year if possible.
02:09 We're here today. We've just hiked up to the Overlap Stone in Koh Samui.
02:13 Here's the family, the girls.
02:15 Are you alright girls? Look at little Bella and Scarlet. Say hello.
02:18 We are doing homeschooling but we're also doing world schooling.
02:24 So today we've actually come to a Buddha here.
02:27 We've researched about it. They'll be writing up about it.
02:30 But generally what we are doing is in the morning they are doing a couple of hours of homeschooling.
02:36 We're following the English curriculum and we're trying our best there.
02:40 They seem to be learning quite a bit.
02:42 And also when we're out and about there is so much.
02:45 The world is the best classroom.
02:47 They're asking questions. They're researching on Google.
02:51 They're really engaged and we are actually genuinely really enjoying
02:56 that being on the journey with them learning around the world.
03:00 So yes we have taken them out of school education.
03:05 We are doing it ourselves in the morning and then when we go out and about
03:09 and we're seeing the world they're getting all of this culture
03:13 and seeing everything about and researching it when we get home as well.
03:18 So absolutely fantastic and I do not feel any mum guilt at all
03:23 because I think this is the best experience for them and that is why we have chosen to do it.
