Like all cities Birmingham can often be a complete nightmare when it comes to parking. I'm here today in Birmingham City Centre to hear peoples thoughts on where they feel are the worst spots for parking in the region and any advice they might have for motorists coming to the city
Transcript
00:00 The worst road to park on is Dudley Road. Mostly because there is never any traffic
00:11 wardens or police officers so people just park wherever they want to.
00:15 The double yellow lines, all of them. There is a road that you can cut off on Dudley
00:20 Road, it's called Algernon Road. There is people literally they park in the middle of
00:23 the road, in the driving lane as well. They park in the middle.
00:27 I would say probably nearby Broad Street. There is not many parking spots and I would
00:33 say mainly near city centre. You can't really find anywhere.
00:38 But yeah.
00:39 Ok, so places that are densely populated like the Alamrock Road, Ladypool Road, in and around
00:47 Spark Hill, Spark Brook, densely populated, poor traffic management over population with
00:54 cars driving around the city is an absolute nightmare.
00:59 I think it's more so like densely populated. When you have families living in multi-generational
01:03 houses you've got multiple cars so you can't park in and around those areas.
01:09 The traffic getting in is getting worse and worse isn't it?
01:13 So when we started parking at Grand Central we were quite low on the floors but now we
01:17 can't.
01:18 We're on the roof all the time.
01:20 Yeah, there's a lot more traffic.
01:23 Parking in the city is non-existent really if you're here all day at work.
01:28 The trains got too busy or unreliable so we do come in the car but it just gets harder
01:33 and harder to come in.
01:34 Yeah, as you say. It's a good hour really to get into work.
01:40 And parking, again you end up paying a premium. Parks are a little bit better rather than
01:44 parking in a car park that's full of potholes.
01:47 Just to feel safe.
01:49 Just to feel safe.
01:50 Yeah, especially we always try and walk together don't we? But you know, lone females walking
01:54 to a car park, you've got to factor that in as well. So it's not great.
01:58 It's not great.
01:59 I caught the train today because the parking, I just know the parking's not good here so
02:03 it's just easier to get the train so I don't have to think about where I'm going to park,
02:06 how much it's going to cost.
02:10 Recently there have been an alarming number of reports of tragic road incidents in Birmingham.
02:15 West Midlands Police has made a plea to the public urging them to provide dashcam footage
02:20 of dangerous driving, so far leading to multiple prosecutions. Given the current state of the
02:25 region's roads, would it be in people's best interests to explore alternate modes of transportation?
02:32 I think it could vary. You could get some people, other drivers, they might not be the
02:38 best type of people, might not be the calmest in Birmingham. There's not many spots but
02:43 you could get lucky sometimes. I think it depends.
02:46 I'd say it'd be a bit of a struggle, you know, let's say in an emergency or in a bit of a
02:50 rush to get to work, school, college, all of that, yeah. And if you're there and there's
02:55 people just parked in the middle of the road like that, you wouldn't feel really happy
02:58 about that would you? So I'd say it is really good to park in an all-nighter in Birmingham.
03:02 I wouldn't really call it good.
