00:00 Elphiston College, Credit Library, etc.
00:02 All these are important structures.
00:04 The second challenge was that the buildings,
00:06 the map, the foundation,
00:08 were not available.
00:10 Andheri Kurla Road and Metro Line 1.
00:12 The biggest challenge was that
00:14 Metro Line 1,
00:15 if we don't close it,
00:17 we have to do the work of Bhogda.
00:18 Bhogda's work started.
00:20 Then suddenly, in the upline,
00:21 a lot of water started coming.
00:23 It is a 33.5 km stretch.
00:26 It is divided into 7 different packages.
00:28 The first package is Adekwalni to International Airport.
00:31 Hello, I am Vinayak Parabdhe.
00:47 This is Lok Satta Ghost, Mumbai's second episode.
00:50 In this second episode,
00:51 we have explored the ancient and modern
00:53 aspects of Mumbai.
00:56 We might have noticed that in the last episode,
00:58 we had shared information about
01:01 Mumbai Metro Line 3.
01:05 We had a conversation with the MMRCL officials.
01:09 And for that, we had gone to the place where I am standing today,
01:13 that is, the station of MIDC Metro.
01:16 We had gone to the station's basement.
01:18 And there, we had a conversation with the MMRCL officials.
01:22 Once again, the same officials,
01:23 MMRCL's Executive Director Civil,
01:27 Jadhav, we are going to have a conversation with him.
01:30 And at that time, we might have noticed
01:33 that I was wearing a headgear,
01:35 which is called a safety helmet.
01:38 Because wearing that only allows you to go down.
01:42 Because the work of the Metro station is currently underway.
01:46 Let's go now.
01:48 [Music]
02:03 Now, I have with me,
02:05 MMRCL's Executive Director Civil,
02:08 Charuhas Jadhav.
02:09 This 33.5 km route,
02:13 we have divided it into 7 different packages.
02:17 If you want to know the details of those 7 packages,
02:20 the first package starts from R.A. Colony.
02:23 R.A. Colony to International Airport.
02:26 Second package, International Airport to Domestic Airport.
02:30 Third, Domestic Airport to Dharavi.
02:32 Dharavi to Siddhi Vinayak.
02:35 Then Siddhi Vinayak to Varli.
02:37 Varli to Bombay Central.
02:39 Bombay Central to CST.
02:42 And CST to Skuff Parade.
02:44 We have divided it into 7 packages.
02:48 We have understood an interesting thing.
02:50 I had come to Marold station in the afternoon.
02:54 The officials there told me that,
02:57 Marold station was the biggest problem.
03:00 Because the road from Andheri to Kurla goes from the top.
03:03 The Metro goes from there.
03:05 So, nothing is visible or visible.
03:08 It was a big problem to work from there.
03:12 So, tell us what was the problem?
03:15 How did you work on it?
03:17 How is the technological innovation?
03:19 Definitely.
03:21 We know that, as you said,
03:24 Marold station is in the North-South direction.
03:30 And it has a perpendicular,
03:34 that is, Andheri-Kurla road and Metro Line 1.
03:39 The biggest challenge was that,
03:43 Metro Line 1 does not stop for a minute.
03:46 We had to do this work.
03:48 For that, we coordinated everything with Metro Line 1.
03:54 Hishobani took their drawings.
03:58 Then he put our drawing on it.
04:00 He took a shaft on one side of the line,
04:03 and another on the other side.
04:06 And then, these two shafts were joined by Bogda.
04:10 Actually, we had removed the tunnel first,
04:13 then the shafts,
04:14 and then Bogda went big for the platform.
04:17 Okay.
04:18 So, this was a challenge.
04:20 For that, the coordination done on Metro Line 1,
04:25 they told us that our piers,
04:27 or structure, AKMM should not be settled.
04:31 For that, we did various instrumentation on each of their structure components,
04:35 that is, the piers,
04:37 or their girders.
04:40 And it was a 24-hour online monitoring.
04:47 Okay.
04:48 And I would like to tell you that,
04:51 not even a single AKMM settlement was done.
04:54 And we did this work.
04:56 Okay.
04:57 Another challenge in Marold,
05:00 when we started working on Bogda,
05:04 suddenly, in the upline,
05:06 there was a huge amount of water in the water.
05:08 Oh, okay.
05:10 So much water that it was difficult to control.
05:13 So, the entire Bogda was filled with mud.
05:17 We stopped the work for a few days, pumped out the water.
05:20 But, in about 15 days, we were out of it.
05:24 And we did not know where the water came from.
05:27 We did this work with various schemes.
05:32 So, there was no possibility of water coming in.
05:34 And it has been tested in this monsoon.
05:38 So, we are confident that there will be no water at all.
05:41 Now, the last question.
05:43 You mentioned earlier that in South Mumbai,
05:47 there are skyscrapers,
05:50 and heritage structures.
05:52 As you said, Marold has a metro system,
05:55 and the vibrations that are present,
05:58 the work is done on the upper side.
06:00 Similarly, in South Mumbai,
06:02 it is important to take care of it.
06:05 So, what technology were you using for that?
06:07 And how did you measure it?
06:10 I will give you an example of the Utadmas Chowk station.
06:14 You know that it is situated on the side of the D.N. Road.
06:18 Correct.
06:18 On both sides,
06:20 there is the Elphiston College,
06:21 the credit library,
06:22 and all the important heritage structures.
06:26 We took the permission of the Heritage Committee.
06:32 They gave us permission.
06:33 This building will not be affected.
06:36 The second challenge was that
06:37 the foundation of the building was not available.
06:42 The building was built 150 years ago.
06:44 So, we were very careful.
06:47 We decided that the foundation would not be affected,
06:51 and we decided on the depth.
06:53 Then, on the D.N. Road,
06:57 we have a shortage of width.
06:59 So, we had to start the traffic,
07:02 and we had to do our work.
07:04 So, we took shafts there,
07:07 and we built temporary bridges on them.
07:11 We call it decking.
07:12 We built steel bridges.
07:14 We started our work on the steel bridges,
07:17 and we started our work below.
07:18 I think the fault is everywhere.
07:20 It is all over the place.
07:22 We even did the marolling there.
07:24 Okay.
07:25 It is a standard practice.
07:27 We did that.
07:29 After that, we continued with the work on the shafts.
07:33 We drove the tunnels from both sides and went inside.
07:37 While doing that, we reduced the speed of the tunnel drive.
07:40 Okay.
07:41 The other places, for example, if there is an X,
07:44 we reduced the speed to X by 2 or X by 3.
07:45 We reduced the speed there.
07:48 The next challenge was that
07:51 one tunnel is on the road,
07:53 and the other is under the building.
07:56 For the platform, we had to break the tunnel
08:00 and build a platform.
08:02 Oh, okay.
08:03 For that, we used a technique called NATM,
08:07 North Australian Tunneling Method.
08:10 Okay.
08:11 While doing that, we used to blast the face
08:16 and put the grills on it and blast it.
08:20 Okay.
08:21 Then we did the work.
08:22 Okay.
08:24 While doing that,
08:25 the load we put in the blasts in other places,
08:29 is much less than that.
08:31 It is called microblasting.
08:33 We have done around 10,000 microblasts under it.
08:37 10,000 microblasts.
08:38 Okay.
08:39 We have completed the station.
08:41 Okay.
08:42 So, there too,
08:43 and like we had instrumented the Metro line,
08:47 we have instrumented all the buildings there.
08:49 Okay.
08:50 And I am happy to tell you that
08:53 there is no distress in the building.
08:56 Okay.
08:57 We have done the work of the tunnel
08:59 as a heritage present.
09:00 Okay.
09:01 Mr. Charu, thank you very much
09:03 for giving us all this information.
09:05 After visiting the MIDC Sanak of Mumbai Metro 3,
09:09 we have come back again.
09:11 We have talked to the authorities of MMRCL
09:14 and tried to find out
09:16 what kind of obstacles were there in the Metro line
09:19 and how they have dealt with them.
09:22 What was the situation in South Mumbai?
09:26 And how carefully and with great sensitivity,
09:30 the Metro line 3 has been worked on.
09:33 We will take a short break now.
09:35 And then we will go to another station of the Metro.
09:39 This is the biggest station of Mumbai Metro.
09:42 Till then, keep watching.
09:44 Don't forget to subscribe to Lok Sabha Live YouTube channel.
09:47 Watch all the previous episodes of Mumbai,
09:51 share them, and like them.
