00:00 - All right, guys, we went over the rules in the locker room,
00:02 all right?
00:03 Expect a good, clean fight out of both of you.
00:05 Pay close attention to my commands
00:06 and protect yourself at all times.
00:08 Touch 'em up, wait for the bell.
00:10 All right?
00:11 - Main event scheduled for 10 rounds.
00:15 Lester Martinez, his professional debut in 2019.
00:20 Once again--was against Ricardo Mayarga,
00:24 and that was the last fight of that man's career.
00:28 Guatemala's Martinez.
00:30 White, red, blue, and yellow trunks.
00:34 The black trunks,
00:35 sported by the Brazilian out of Sao Paulo,
00:37 Lucas D'Abreu.
00:39 - Right away, D'Abreu coming out with that long jab.
00:42 He's got a height and reach advantage.
00:44 He's getting right to work early on.
00:46 Smart move from him.
00:48 - And he--and Martinez is one of those guys,
00:49 if he gets inside, he can do some damage,
00:51 but he's also one of those guys who doesn't really punch
00:53 until he gets inside, so he doesn't--
00:55 I noticed in the video, he's explosive,
00:57 he's fun to watch, but he doesn't punch his way in.
01:00 He wants to get in and then punch,
01:01 and so against a guy with a good jab,
01:03 it could cause some challenges,
01:04 and D'Abreu is one of those guys who has a good jab.
01:06 - Martinez looks strong.
01:08 He just landed two stiff jabs that popped the head back
01:11 of D'Abreu.
01:12 - Also, D'Abreu fought blessed, uh, not sane.
01:14 I mean, what weight was that, 154?
01:16 - Yep, yep. - So this is two-weight class
01:18 is above what we last saw him.
01:19 - Yeah, I mean, Martinez looks much bigger.
01:21 He's thicker, looks very strong.
01:24 - That one was a sixth-round unanimous decision win
01:29 for Blast back in February.
01:32 [crowd shouting]
01:35 - Stiff, hard jab to the body from Martinez.
01:38 - You can legit-- you legit know Martinez can punch.
01:40 That's one of the, uh, big attributes
01:43 that he's coming here to the ring with.
01:45 - Yeah, he looks very strong.
01:48 - Oh, you can see the way he hurts the intentions.
01:50 [crowd shouting]
01:54 - And D'Abreu, like I said, I called the fight
01:56 where he fought Diego Pacheco.
01:58 He was a very, very talented power puncher,
02:01 and he went almost the distance,
02:03 and then he got stopped with, like, I believe,
02:05 six seconds left in the bout,
02:07 and was very much in that fight early on.
02:09 [crowd shouting]
02:11 - Yeah, the official stop was at 221,
02:15 and like you said, Chris, and you said to him,
02:18 they should have let it go the distance.
02:22 - Yeah, he was boxing well that night.
02:23 He started to get hit, you know,
02:25 more and more in that last round, but...
02:28 I don't know, I thought the stoppage was a little bit quick.
02:30 - And that fight against Blaspali was a little bit heavier.
02:35 D'Abreu came in at 163 1/2,
02:37 Blast at 162 3/4.
02:40 - Okay, okay, so not too much.
02:41 - So not as much, yeah.
02:44 - But Martinez, you can see the power
02:46 and the intent on his shots,
02:49 as opposed to D'Abreu being more crafty,
02:51 trying to get that shot selection
02:52 and trying not to be in the range
02:53 of the power puncher Martinez.
02:54 But again, you can see the flaw of Martinez.
02:56 He has a jab there,
02:57 but he doesn't really punch his way in.
02:59 He tries to get in range, then punch.
03:02 - And D'Abreu is doing a good job of picking his spots.
03:05 He's finding little holes in the defense.
03:06 When you have that peekaboo style,
03:07 and it's not active, you know, with the hand defense,
03:11 there are holes there,
03:12 and D'Abreu is finding those early on.
03:15 - It's a good opponent there for Martinez to work on this,
03:18 you know, as D'Abreu is a little smaller than him.
03:20 But at the same time, he's a jabber,
03:22 and he's a crafty guy,
03:23 and he's the kind of guy Martinez may see
03:25 when he gets to a higher level.
03:27 And these are the kind of things that Martinez has to work on.
03:29 So this is the kind of opponent that, I guess,
03:31 you want to see Martinez with.
03:34 You can work on this, but the guy's naturally smaller.
03:36 - Yeah, that's a good point, champ.
03:37 And also, D'Abreu, he's got 11 KOs in 14 fights,
03:40 but he's not really a puncher.
03:42 - And now, let him, Claudio Mostado, in the corner.
03:45 - How you feel?
03:47 - D'Abreu's corner.
03:49 [cheers and applause]
03:52 - I think he's having trouble getting in and out of the ring.
03:53 - Well, Claudio, 80 years old,
03:57 suffered a brain aneurysm recently,
04:01 but he looks good.
04:02 We're glad he is with us.
04:04 And he is right next to his fighter,
04:06 but not making his way up the steps.
04:08 [speaking Spanish]
04:10 - Oh, they told him he needs the rubber gloves
04:12 in order to go in the corner.
04:13 - Okay, let's go. Let's go.
04:15 - He's got to go in the corner
04:16 without the rubber gloves on.
04:17 - He has been with Lucas D'Abreu for the past year
04:22 as we get set for round number two.
04:25 And as we're setting up for this main event,
04:31 I didn't say it in round number one,
04:32 so round number two, I can still do it, right, Chris?
04:34 Here we go. It's time to fight.
04:36 - It's never too late to do that.
04:37 - There you go. Thank you, my friend.
04:38 - Good catch and shoot there by Martinez on the inside.
04:42 - My powerful partners, Mike Goldberg,
04:45 the former two-time world champion,
04:46 the Magic Man, Paulie Molinaggi,
04:47 former world champion, Chris Algieri.
04:50 Glad to be with you for our main event of the evening
04:53 on a Wednesday night on your boxing channel.
04:55 - Nice little push-off there for the shoulder from D'Abreu,
04:58 showing what we've been talking about.
05:00 He is a crafty guy.
05:02 - And D'Abreu's three losses,
05:04 one we talked about the late stoppage
05:07 that Pacheco earned against him,
05:09 have been against unbeaten fighters.
05:12 He's got some skills as well.
05:15 - Yeah, you see that the difference in firepower
05:17 is very apparent here in round number two.
05:20 [crowd cheering]
05:22 - Lester Martinez, a gold medalist
05:25 at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games,
05:29 the first boxer from Guatemala
05:31 to achieve that significant milestone in 68 years.
05:38 Wants to be the first world champion
05:40 from his home country of Guatemala.
05:43 - Mm.
05:44 - Sneaky little body shot from D'Abreu.
05:46 - Good inside work there from Martinez.
05:48 Nice short little uppercuts with both hands.
05:50 - Martinez has worked with Bomac, Brian McIntyre,
06:00 and he's got the Hall of Famer with him tonight.
06:03 - Oh! - And big shots from Martinez.
06:07 - Sorry, D'Abreu, good chair on him, man.
06:09 He did a combination there from the power puncher.
06:12 [crowd cheering]
06:14 - Still--and still staying right in front,
06:16 willing to engage is D'Abreu.
06:18 - You see the danger Martinez poses at close range.
06:20 He's explosive, his speed comes out,
06:23 puts those punches together nicely.
06:26 Again, it's from the outside that I'd like to see
06:27 a little bit more work.
06:29 As you can see, D'Abreu takes advantage on the outside.
06:30 But when he gets close, again, big shots there.
06:33 D'Abreu is a little bit lackluster on the out.
06:36 Takes a bit of--takes some pictures, as we call it,
06:38 when he's--after he's done punching,
06:40 instead of being alert to the defense.
06:42 And Martinez has been able to take advantage.
06:44 He tried an uppercut there as well
06:46 after D'Abreu punches.
06:49 - You know, although Martinez is having a lot of success
06:51 landing some big power punches,
06:52 he is getting hit quite a bit
06:54 as he's trying to traverse that middle distance.
06:56 [crowd shouting]
06:59 A little lackadaisical on his own defense,
07:03 as you said, champ, from the open.
07:04 He's kind of a guy who plods forward,
07:06 gets into punching range, and then fires.
07:08 - Yeah.
07:10 - Just heavy-handed.
07:12 Lester Martinez.
07:14 [crowd shouting]
07:17 Body head.
07:18 - One of my first coaches used to call that
07:20 the critical distance line,
07:21 which is the point at which you can hit your opponent
07:23 and they can hit you.
07:25 Martinez doesn't get over that
07:27 with the explosion that he has with his punches.
07:30 - Yeah, once he's over it, he's dangerous.
07:31 But yet he's got to work on deceptively getting over it
07:35 against better fighters.
07:36 And D'Abreu is the kind of opponent
07:37 that you can work on it with.
07:38 He's not a big puncher.
07:39 There you see what happens when Martinez does get over it.
07:42 I mean, nice combination and a good, solid chin
07:44 shown by D'Abreu, too,
07:46 as he took a few good, clean shots there.
07:47 - That was five hard power shots at middle distance range.
07:50 D'Abreu, like you said, has some chin
07:52 and was still willing to stand in front and engage
07:54 and actually had it pretty decent round,
07:55 and had some good shots himself.
07:57 [crowd shouting]
08:00 - And there is 80-year-old Claudio Mostrada.
08:05 - [speaking Spanish]
08:08 - [speaking Spanish]
08:11 - Mostrada, born in Italy, raised in Brazil.
08:14 - There you go. - Let's go.
08:14 Take it down.
08:16 - [speaking Spanish]
08:19 - I would consider that the best of both worlds,
08:21 just considering Black Mary.
08:23 - It's home for both of us, right?
08:24 - Yeah, you know? - Yeah, exactly.
08:25 Exactly.
08:26 [crowd shouting]
08:29 - Round number three of our main event of the evening.
08:34 Martinez, white, red, blue, yellow, black drums
08:36 for D'Abreu, who traveled the world
08:40 with the Brazilian national team, 120 amateur fights.
08:46 Martinez presently holds the WBO Latino
08:51 super middleweight title.
08:52 [crowd shouting]
08:56 - There are moments, though, you know,
08:57 you can see the crafty punches there,
08:58 shot selection of D'Abreu, but there are moments
09:00 where he's gonna have to put some weight behind those shots,
09:03 put some extra snap behind those shots.
09:04 Almost like he's pushing some of them out.
09:05 He's trying to be safe.
09:07 He's gonna have to put some extra muscle
09:09 on some of these shots,
09:10 especially that Martinez locks up defensively anyway
09:12 when you throw at him.
09:13 You might as well take a chance here and there.
09:14 But otherwise, you know, you're gonna have Martinez
09:16 firing right back, 'cause nothing's intimidating.
09:20 - Martinez is managed by international boxing
09:23 Hall of Fame referee Richard Steele,
09:27 teammate of Ken Norton in the Marine Corps,
09:31 147 world title fights
09:34 officiated by Richard Steele.
09:38 - Martinez starting to pick up the accuracy here,
09:41 landing a lot of big shots here in round number three.
09:44 - Ooh, and the fight getting in closer range more and more.
09:47 And again, D'Abreu, for as crafty as he is,
09:49 he's not very alert when he's done punching.
09:52 Doesn't do a good job of getting off-center
09:54 after he's done punching, and that's why
09:56 Martinez is able to make a pay
09:58 after he finishes punching.
10:01 - He's getting shellacked on the inside here.
10:03 Martinez is too strong.
10:06 And D'Abreu has no defense for those hooks upstairs
10:10 at that middle distance range.
10:12 - Ooh.
10:14 - Good counter by Martinez.
10:16 [crowd shouting]
10:19 Still a minute on the clock here in round number three.
10:27 Martinez, in his professional career,
10:29 has averaged 3.6 rounds per fight.
10:34 - Martinez is one of those guys,
10:35 like, he's actually so easy to hit.
10:38 You fall in love with standing there,
10:39 and like you mentioned, you know,
10:41 admiring your work,
10:43 and then he comes back with shots like that.
10:44 Ooh.
10:45 - That shot makes him take a knee there.
10:48 - Three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
10:54 You okay?
10:55 - Yeah, there's been a lot of punishment upstairs.
10:57 - Again? - Yeah, yeah.
10:58 - I don't like-- I don't like knocking on the ground.
10:59 - You can see an in-and-out fighter
11:00 with Jair Martinez problems.
11:02 The problem is D'Abreu's in, gets in,
11:03 he doesn't get out in time.
11:04 - Yeah, D'Abreu's leg is shaking.
11:06 - Good jab by D'Abreu coming off that heavy punch
11:08 that put him down for an eight count.
11:11 - I think this is about over.
11:12 D'Abreu's legs do not look good,
11:13 and he really needs them.
11:15 - And he doesn't have a fast enough legs
11:16 to begin with, even from round one.
11:18 I mean, he was getting in, but he wasn't getting out in time.
11:19 And again, taking some shots and--
11:21 - And there he goes again.
11:23 That was a right hand that came over the top
11:25 right to the jaw of the Brazilian.
11:27 Six, seven, eight.
11:30 Look at me. You okay?
11:32 You okay? You okay?
11:34 Come here. Walk over. Walk over.
11:36 - Yeah.
11:37 [crowd cheering]
11:41 - It will go on, but for how long?
11:44 - Those delayed reaction shots upstairs,
11:46 those are scary.
11:47 That--the corner should really be
11:49 looking at their man here, because...
11:53 nothing good happens after that.
11:55 [crowd cheering]
11:58 - That was a good stiff jab in this overhand right,
11:59 right in the temple.
12:00 And here you see D'Abreu
12:03 willingly takes a knee, looking at his man.
12:05 His eyes are working.
12:06 It's his body's not responding.
12:08 - And Martinez turns that right hand over perfectly, Paul.
12:14 - Yeah, and those overhand rights have been
12:16 landing consistently.
12:18 D'Abreu's a guy who stands straight up.
12:20 And again, a guy who's a power puncher.
12:23 - Let's go. Let's take it down.
12:24 - A power puncher like Martinez.
12:25 - Let's go.
12:26 - You know, it's not just been a single shot.
12:27 He's been getting hit with a lot of head shots.
12:29 - Right in the corner. - And power shots.
12:30 - The combination a few rounds ago.
12:31 - Yeah. - Those catch up to you
12:32 eventually. - Box.
12:34 - Eventually might be now.
12:36 - Our main event continues, round number four.
12:40 Martinez, 15 and 0 with 13 finishes.
12:44 Trying to change that and go to 16 and 14.
12:47 - And like you said, champ, there's not enough mustard
12:50 on these shots to get any respect from Martinez,
12:52 who's just walking him down and throwing bombs.
12:54 - That time with the left hook, guys.
12:56 - Yeah, and D'Abreu doesn't get his head off center.
12:58 He stays too much in the center.
13:00 As proud as he is, he doesn't get his head off center,
13:02 doesn't change the distance when he's done punching.
13:04 So Martinez hits him with the return
13:06 after D'Abreu's done punching.
13:08 - Heavy-handed, trying to finish it right here, right now.
13:12 - That's a good shot. - And it is all over!
13:14 Just like that!
13:16 And I would say that's about 3.6 rounds
13:19 that it took him once again.
13:22 - I'll tell you, man, Martinez is gonna be fun to watch, man.
13:24 He's a power puncher, he's a seek-and-destroy fighter.
13:27 - And he gets hit. - But he's just flaunting off
13:30 to where, you know, you gotta be--
13:31 if you put him up with another flat-footed guy
13:33 who's willing to fight, he's gonna make fun fights.
13:35 If you put him in with a guy with quick legs,
13:37 you risk him losing every single round.
13:39 So you gotta match him correctly,
13:40 but this guy could be fun to watch.
13:41 - Hey, put him in with McGee.
13:42 Now, what am I saying? - Oh, boy.
13:44 - Yeah, we see the end-- I mean, this is a foregone conclusion.
13:47 You know, the last round with those two knockdowns,
13:50 they were really-- they were taking--
13:52 DeBrayer was taking a knee.
13:53 He was deciding to go down
13:55 because of the damage he was taking.
13:56 You know, it was just a matter of time.
13:58 - And mind you, this is, you know,
13:59 after he took four or five-- in a combination,
14:02 in a combination a few rounds ago when he was still fresh.
14:04 Once the freshness went away, he was like,
14:06 "Man, I can't take these shots even one at a time."
14:09 - Yeah, he made a conscious decision
14:10 not to take any more of those shots,
14:12 which was probably smart.
14:14 - And coming into this fight, as we mentioned earlier, guys,
14:18 he had been stopped just once in 17 bouts,
14:21 and that was by Diego Pacheco
14:24 with nine seconds left in the eighth and final round.
14:27 - Yeah, he was an absolute beast.
14:29 - And what weight was that fight at?
14:30 How do you fight-- how do you--
14:31 Oh, he's-- he's-- he's fought at this weight.
14:33 Maybe this is not the weight for him.
14:35 Maybe he should fight a little bit less.
14:36 - I mean, he definitely looked undersized tonight.
14:39 - Yeah, not-- not fight less.
14:43 Fight a lot of less weight, lesser weight.
14:47 But I'll tell you what, credit goes to this man.
14:50 Moved up to the main event spot and took full advantage of it.
14:54 Lester Martinez now 16 and 0, 14 wins by knockout.
14:59 Man, he just got some heavy hands and great placement.
15:03 - I mean, De'Abreu was landing some good shots on the way in.
15:05 Like-- like, uh, the Champoing manager had said
15:07 that Martinez tends to just walk forward
15:09 and-- and not punch his way in.
15:10 But once he got to his range
15:12 and was able to unload with power shots,
15:14 I mean, he could not miss.
15:15 The right-- the right hooks, left hooks were landing
15:17 in succession and in combination.
15:19 You don't see a lot of guys land power punches in combination
15:22 the way that Martinez was.
15:23 And De'Abreu, in that third round,
15:26 you could see it was a little bit delayed reaction,
15:27 takes a knee.
15:28 And then in the fourth round, it was just another
15:30 all-out assault upstairs from Martinez.
15:32 And this fight was stopped, I believe, just at the right time.
15:36 We didn't even see any more of this.
15:37 I mean, those combinations to the head
15:39 were very, very heavy.
15:40 And De'Abreu just did not have enough power
15:43 to keep Martinez off him.
15:45 [music playing]
15:48 To make it official, Mark Lichtenfeld.
15:52 [bell ringing]
15:54 Ladies and gentlemen, referee Emo Lombardi
15:56 stops this contest at 33 seconds of the fourth round.
16:00 Your winner by technical knockout,
16:03 el ganador por knockout, Tecnico Lester Martinez!
16:09 [cheering]
16:13 34 seconds into round number four,
16:18 Lester Martinez victorious in our main event of the evening.
16:26 He is for real.
16:28 [cheering]
16:31 Everything targeted perfectly, everything
16:35 placed on his opponent, the Brazilian.
16:38 And he stops him very quickly.
