00:00 Welcome to the VMAs. How are you feeling tonight?
00:03 I'm feeling great. You know, I got an earache. I don't know why. Truthfully.
00:09 Is it the nerves?
00:11 Maybe. It could be a little bit of that. I feel good. I feel like a wrapped gift.
00:14 I like playing dress-up, so it's okay. Yeah.
00:16 You're nominated for a Push performance tonight. How exciting is that?
00:19 And how meaningful is this nomination for you?
00:23 I mean, it's just such a joy, honestly.
00:27 I mean, I'm such a fan of music at heart, and I still am.
00:31 I don't think that there's ever going to be a time where I'm like, "Oh, I'm the shit. I'm a big deal."
00:37 I think it's always so cool whenever I'm thought of in any way, musically.
00:44 And to be a part of one of music's biggest nights is just super sweet. It's just great.
00:48 And also to be nominated is incredible, because now I just get to sit next to cool folks who I get to chat with.
00:54 So that's neat.
00:56 I feel like you had the song of the summer. Everybody was using it. It was going viral.
01:02 How was that experience? Did you ever expect that?
01:05 And what was a highlight since that kind of moment happened in your life?
01:11 Oh, my gosh. I mean, obviously that song has had a tremendous lifelong thing.
01:20 And it's-- I mean, everything from Glastonbury, you know, highlight, bleeding from that.
01:25 And Sophia's wedding, you know. And gosh, just being able to buy my first home in Nashville.
01:34 It's just been such a huge blessing, you know.
01:37 And now we're here, and what an exciting thing that is, too, you know.
01:41 Such an incredible trajectory. I did want to ask, because everyone could not stop talking about Sophia Richie's wedding.
01:46 Can you talk to me about how that collaboration between you two happened?
01:50 It wasn't her. I was the surprise for her.
01:54 Sophia is, first and foremost, one of the loveliest women I've ever gotten to meet.
01:59 She's so great. And she loves the song.
02:04 And, you know, Lucian Grange, you know, Elliot's father, who is--
02:10 You know, he is the Universal Music Group godfather.
02:17 So when he makes a request--
02:19 When he makes a request, you say yes. And I did.
02:22 But also getting the soundtrack, his daughter-in-law's wedding, is just--
02:28 That was a huge honor for me. So, yeah.
02:31 And very quickly, I wanted to ask, you have your new album coming out very soon.
02:35 What can you tell us about it and the inspiration behind it?
02:37 So the record itself was set back in the years 1958 through 1964.
02:40 And it's highlighting the career of the troubadour Sanchez, who is a fictional, famous crooner back in the day.
02:47 And he falls in love with Evangeline. And Evangeline falls in love with him.
02:51 But Evangeline is dating a mobster, who then sets out to kill the two after he finds out.
02:57 So that's the whole record itself.
02:59 And it's been inspired by the many big names like Rory Orbison, Elvis, Marty Robbins,
03:04 and his storytelling artists like Lord Huron, who I've grown up listening to.
03:08 And it's gonna be a really exciting time.
03:10 September 22nd is ten days away.
03:13 Oh, my God. I'm gonna lose my mind.
03:16 What are you gonna do to celebrate?
03:18 I might go to dinner and just have a little wine.
03:21 Keep it simple, you know. Take a shower, go to sleep.
03:25 Hide under my blanket, you know, knowing it's out.
03:29 Well, more to celebrate tonight, I'm sure. Congratulations and have fun tonight.
03:33 Thank you very much. Cheers.
03:34 Cheers.
