Experts say proper tree pruning can reduce the risk of property damage and injuries during tropical threats and severe weather.

00:00 When the winds pick up, trees can come crashing down.
00:03 Everybody loves trees, but trees are very heavy.
00:06 And they can be deadly if they're not taken care of.
00:09 It's good to get a tree pruned.
00:11 That way the wind can kind of blow through them a lot better.
00:13 But a lot of people don't do it, and the oak trees
00:15 are coming over real easy.
00:17 Pat Edmonds owns Edmonds Tree Service
00:19 and says too much rain makes it easier for some trees
00:23 to uproot and topple over.
00:25 With the ground being saturated, it's going to move.
00:27 Something's going to give.
00:28 The biggest safety risk is large trees
00:31 growing too close to homes.
00:32 It may cost hundreds or thousands of dollars,
00:35 but Edmonds says removing a hazardous tree
00:37 is worth the investment.
00:39 A lot more cheaper to go and remove your tree
00:42 than to wait till Mother Nature come and send it,
00:45 bam, down on your house.
00:46 If you've got a big tree and it's right at your house,
00:49 I recommend definitely take it down.
00:51 Experts say it's best to prune trees
00:53 when they're dormant in the winter.
00:55 But if there are damaged or diseased branches,
00:58 get the work done soon before the next big storm.
