00:02 Stocks were in the green to close out today's trading
00:04 session.
00:05 The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.22%.
00:09 The NASDAQ closed up fractionally.
00:10 And the S&P 500 closed up 0.14%.
00:14 While stocks did close a bit higher today,
00:16 markets are down for the week.
00:18 September historically is a pretty tough month for stocks.
00:21 And if this week tells us anything,
00:22 markets could be in for a bit of a bumpy ride.
00:25 But there is still more economic data to digest ahead.
00:28 Investors are looking to a big inflation report next week.
00:31 It could give Wall Street a better idea
00:33 of the Federal Reserve's next move.
00:35 Elsewhere in the world of business,
00:37 Apple's slated to unveil its new iPhone next week.
00:40 But customers may encounter one major change--
00:42 the end of the Lightning port.
00:45 Ah, yes.
00:45 While it's not yet officially confirmed,
00:47 it has been heavily rumored that Apple
00:49 will ditch the Lightning charger in favor of USB-C charging.
00:53 It's a move that would make the device's charging port more
00:55 universal, meaning users could mix and match
00:58 chargers across a wide variety of devices and brands.
01:02 This potential switch comes less than a year
01:04 after the European Union passed a law that
01:06 requires smartphones, tablets, digital cameras,
01:09 and portable speakers to all support USB-C charging
01:13 by the end of 2024.
01:15 The EU's pushed universal charging
01:17 as part of its greater efforts to eliminate e-waste.
01:20 And if implemented, the change will
01:21 apply to all iPhone 15 releases and future models.
01:26 However, it's not all good news for Apple.
01:27 The tech company saw its value drop
01:29 by a whopping $200 billion in just two days
01:32 after reports circulated that China could ban the iPhone
01:35 by use of government officials.
01:37 Company stock also witnessed its biggest daily drop
01:39 in over a month.
01:41 And Apple's likely hopeful that the big event
01:43 will help the stock make up for some of those losses.
01:46 That'll do it for your daily briefing
01:47 from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
01:49 I'm Andy Durkin with The Street.
