Choks Thenappan took over the North Lane cafe in June, launching an evening menu with head chef Sandhiya Prasad and her husband Rameswaran Selvarathinam a month later.

The daytime offering remains the same, with Choks keeping on the two long-standing cafe chefs.

00:00 My name is Chokz. I am at Munch Cafe 5, the parade, North Lane in Headingley, LS6, 3HP.
00:07 Munch Cafe has been open for more than 10 years now. We took over the business on 1st of June
00:15 with an aim of doing South Indian vegetarian vegan cuisine, but then we decided to leave the morning as it is,
00:26 and we did the 10 to 2 show and then we have opened the South Indian cuisine only in the evening between 5 to 9.
00:33 The morning customers, there are long standing customers and we are in a place surrounded by students,
00:39 so we get regular customers, custom from them for the morning run.
00:43 Evening is something new. We launched 14th of July and we have been getting very good reviews for the cafe,
00:53 for the evening vegetarian vegan gluten free cuisine.
00:56 The communities like the vegan community in Leeds, they have been very supportive
01:02 and there are quite a lot of local groups where people recommend us.
01:09 It's through word of mouth that we get most of our daily customers.
01:13 You feel anger actually because you are surrounded by these young people,
01:18 even though you are 20 years before you did all your universities, you feel that vibe if you like.
01:25 People are very friendly, you don't see any problems here in Headingley,
01:30 and they go on to their things and then we do our things, run a cafe.
01:36 It's the young vibe I would say in Headingley.
