00:00 TNB generates revenue by selling electricity produced from its gas, coal and renewable
00:11 energy power plants.
00:13 It seems contradictory, but the national electricity provider consistently encourages
00:18 consumers to avoid wasting electricity, which is the very source of its income.
00:24 According to TNB, energy efficiency is beneficial for the long-term health of the energy sector
00:30 and is more cost-effective, and that inefficient electricity usage leads to higher tariff rates.
00:37 To promote a more sustainable future, TNB has partnered with Star Media Group or SMG
00:43 to launch the School Activation Programme in primary and secondary schools.
00:48 Themed "Powering the Future", this programme aims to deepen students' understanding of
00:53 the energy sector, current energy generation processes and the importance of transitioning
00:58 towards renewable energy sources.
01:02 The programme includes a series of engaging workshops conducted by MAD facilitators and
01:07 SMG, featuring fun simulation activities and games.
01:12 These workshops are taking place from August to September and are being held at 10 selected
01:17 urban and sub-urban schools in the Klang Valley.
01:20 TNB believes that raising awareness on energy efficiency should start at a young age, and
01:26 based on TNB's experiences over the past 20 years, children are enthusiastic about
01:31 putting it into practice.
01:34 They also share this knowledge with their parents, some of whom may not be aware of
01:38 the best practices, and encourage them to adopt energy-efficient habits.
01:44 The workshops also provide information on electricity safety, as well as TNB's commitment
01:49 to environmental sustainability and the energy transition agenda.
01:54 TNB's ultimate goal is to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and similar compounds in
01:59 the atmosphere, to combat global warming and ensure a better future for the children.
02:05 The "Powering the Future" programme is part of the Malaysian Energy Literacy Programme
02:09 or MELP, which was launched by the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change
02:14 Minister Nick Nazmi Nick Ahmad in March 2023.
