36:02 Dang, man, I was intense. That was very cool. That was intense. Yeah, man
36:10 Absolutely. I mean obviously like the aesthetic choice - yes set it in this. What is that?
36:15 The 19 the 1800s is the 19th century century. Yeah
36:19 No, I just love the atmosphere and I really enjoyed the air that they cuz I saw the runtime was like
36:25 Well an hour and 17 minutes. It's on the shorter side. But yeah, I thought this managed to like breathe very nicely while also feeling like
36:32 I don't know it had that like dark but fun aura that like an Elseworlds tale
36:38 Yeah to me often does and it didn't like hold on too long to anything because it was an Elseworld
36:44 So the stakes were the right amount of high like you you got to breathe it in
36:48 Have the fun novelty of who's who and then like it dove into the story and it didn't overstay its welcome in the Elseworld
36:53 Which I liked yeah, and it plays off of
36:55 Associations you have or you have like, you know, he goes strange and you're like, oh, he's got to be up
37:00 Yeah, really? He's just another kind of person around involved, but not truly
37:05 You really significantly?
37:08 Responsible or anything? Yeah, and the implication he did know who Bruce Wayne was is fun because that's one of the things you go strange
37:13 does in the comics
37:14 like the playing our
37:16 expectation of who it's gonna be against like I really thought it was gonna be
37:19 Rush ugly like I cuz I was like the way he fought the way I like all those things was really fun as a
37:24 Comic fan to have this Elseworld. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah, even the mutton chops rush. Oh cool. Looks like he fits the 19th century
37:30 Totally. I mean, that's the thing is I see something like this and I'm like man
37:33 I would watch I would watch a series set in this universe
37:37 Yeah, I would watch those takes on like so many
37:40 The potential for so many fun takes and adaptations of characters just you know
37:45 Clearly presents itself through something like this and I really like the ones that we got like I really liked the little IV inclusion
37:52 You know Selena Kyle. I thought was really nicely handled here
37:55 But also - I mean for how, you know compact it is in a lot of ways
38:01 It's not I like that
38:03 They also didn't go too far like over stuff it with like that's a guy. Yeah
38:07 You're not like who's a bit of it
38:10 Yeah
38:10 So like it's allowed to be its own thing while also having you know
38:14 A lot of these things that you want from this and the first Tim Drake sure
38:18 Finally, I mean the Robins
38:21 Tim Drake, he's a Robin -
38:23 But it allowed for us to discover new things like that, which I that was exciting and and I don't know
38:28 This was like really unique for an elseworld because I felt the stakes were high enough that I cared about everybody, but it didn't feel
38:35 Well, it is Mike Mignola. Hell. Yeah, and I was the comic any any row like Hellboy comics
38:40 Yeah, my girl is iconic his art is so specifically him and yeah, hell boys is big claim to fame as father Callahan
38:47 Yeah, Gordon. Oh, okay. Hold on Gordon into a Ferris wheel or Gordon. Yeah, okay, but where's Gordon's Commission?
38:53 Uh, oh there he is. He was credited way lower. Gotch Scott Patterson. I saw the Callahan. I was like, oh, it's father Callahan
39:00 I don't remember him
39:01 Must been a small John DiMaggio was Bullock
39:04 Yuri was Harvey, which is awesome. Yeah
39:08 I love Bruce. Tim got a cameos Arkham Radio man. He's had a couple
39:12 I feel like we've seen a couple of these where he's cameoed is like, oh, that's fun stuff like that a lot
39:17 Yeah, but and - I mean again, I don't know that was Barbara Gordon, right? That was Barbara Gordon with the yeah
39:25 That's that's that's the thing is is there are enough characters that you're like, okay, wait a minute
39:29 Cuz yeah, it's like you there's like does Harvey always come with a gilda
39:33 I feel like that I associate that character so strongly with the long Halloween that like she mentioned here and I'm like
39:38 I usually think of her as just a long Halloween care
39:40 I got I don't think I mean Harvey Dent pops in and out but he's been two-faced for so long
39:44 I don't think back to the Harvey days
39:47 Also, I love that Anthony had was Alfred because he's so good on Ted last is that who that was head lasso zone, of course
39:54 Yes, or oh, dude
39:56 Giles yeah again him. Yeah
39:59 Yeah, what's his name? What is his name is the former owner of the football club? Yeah
40:04 He's
40:07 There he is
40:08 Hannah Waddingham's yeah
40:11 Husband yes, there we go TV TV. What's his name? What's his name? Oh, yeah Ted Rupert
40:16 Evil and the repo man if any
40:21 He was so good as Alfred
40:24 Yeah, and I like I love I never would have thought of that but I love that choice
40:28 And even if we never got to see it live action, I'm like, oh cool. I'm glad he's in the pantheon played Frank and Ferder
40:33 Hey the Piccadilly stage for Rocky Horror. Oh, that's exciting. Love this man more and more the more credits every
40:40 Had doing the work. He records albums. He's he does musical stuff, too
40:44 But uh, yeah
40:47 No
40:47 I thought that was actually a really cool wrap up to this
40:50 to have it be Gordon a because I wouldn't have expected that Gordon is always a character and especially through the
40:56 Characterization they had here. I thought that he was you know
40:59 Very he had all his Gordon flavors that you want where you feel comforted by his presence. Yeah, you like him generally
41:06 He seems like a guy with integrity
41:07 But I thought the reasoning they found to make it him as it pertains to this world
41:13 Was well thought out and it would have to be somebody who again they go back to that thing of like he's a sophisticated guy
41:21 Who's making himself look, you know?
41:22 Yeah an uneducated guy and it's a good having the letter in his own pocket saying that they're ever gonna see it
41:28 Dreaming of Barbara Gordon being hurt as a mislead because he's just having a nightmare about his own wife being horrible. Yes
41:34 Absolutely and like the way that it bounces off of the whole Batman thing is like, you know, he's got the playboy public persona
41:40 Yeah, but he's out here, you know in the nighttime
41:43 Obviously, you know it acting just so then you have you like the reverse the guy who in you know
41:49 Plain day is upstanding and is enacting that justice and at night is you know
41:54 Bringing to life the most perverse the most sort of crazed and zealous version of that. Yeah real a cab situation
42:01 Yeah, and I mean - it's got that gruff kind of nasty like yeah all the coppers feel like yeah
42:07 I'm bludgeoning you at any point and like I'd love that
42:09 The only one we usually only have one cop we can trust in Gotham and that's Gordon because he trusts Batman and in this case
42:14 I get a very clever twist. Yeah, I never saw it coming
42:17 I also really like the use of the iconography of Gordon like I
42:21 Love that they use the bat light against him instead of he's the one using it
42:27 Like there were just so many moments that are iconic Batman moments used really creatively here
42:31 Yeah, no, totally like I feel like this this
42:35 It's very gratifying in that way because again it had so many
42:39 Satisfying things that you would want and so many things that made me feel like I was in some ways watching like a classic
42:45 Episode in a good way. Yeah, you know sometimes calling something like an episode is is like a slight but I hear yeah
42:51 But yeah, this made me feel like I was watching the animated series at certain points again
42:55 And I love the little sly asides and yeah having
42:58 The three Robins paid tribute to having Alfred kind of bring them on of his own accord and we're on the wiki page right now
43:04 Just to get the cast, but I see here. It says referencing Sherlock Holmes. They made the Baker Street irregulars into Robins
43:10 That is so fun. Hey, yeah, well, that's the thing too is yeah, you've got Sherlock Holmes in here
43:14 You obviously have stuff that harkens to from hell
43:16 Yeah, and I think having Jack the Ripper is a really good historical pull for a Batman story like this
43:23 It's it's got so much mystique already such a larger-than-life figure, you know much has been much ink has been spilled over the blood
43:30 He has filled and the Alan Moore stuff for comic fans
43:33 Like you said that Ron frame like there's definitely moments where it even ties into our mythology in comics
43:38 Yeah, totally
43:39 So like this and and the way it inhabited that world used the historical fiction
43:44 But also used the again Batman characters to tie it all around. I was like damn if these weren't all, you know
43:50 Clearly fictional characters. I'd be like this is kind of a solid theory. Yeah
43:54 I wonder if there ever was any theories that the Ripper was a cop
43:58 I bet there must be there how I mean like I feel like there was a foundation there is something because you know
44:03 It's like yeah, you have that whole thing about he's like he's got a knowledge of like sir
44:07 He like all of his murders very surgical
44:09 Yeah, and they have at least a moment here where you see like, okay
44:12 Gordon's at least been trained in autopsy and they say like oh these are sort of similar to autopsies in a way
44:18 Yeah, and and yeah, it's like I have to imagine that in the real case like I'm not an expert by any stretch
44:25 But I feel like they've they've looked at surgeons or people with that kind of experience
44:29 But they would have had to have looked at you know, some kind of law enforcement or coroner or somebody like that
44:35 I'm also really curious like what the I just wrote scroll down to curl response people seem to like this quite a bit
44:41 But I'm very curious about how something that turns a beloved character this evil went
44:46 Because like I think it was very useful
44:48 But I know a lot of people like I can't train something like no
44:50 It's like an elseworld like that's the fun of it
44:52 Like Thomas Wayne being Batman changes everything like the Joker being Martha like all those things like that's what I like about an elseworld
44:59 Not when it's one little tweak when they go full tilt like this. I got to be fully surprised. Yeah, totally
45:04 It's like he fought in the war. It's like, you know, he's traumatized from like the Civil War. Yeah, so like yeah
45:11 It's a great again. It makes sense that if he had been put into that moment in time
45:17 These events come together
45:19 Where they might not have if he is yeah of a later period in time like we're used to seeing him and this very
45:25 Successfully did a thing another of the animated movies we watched a while ago
45:28 I think failed at or one of the only villains I didn't like in the Teen Titans where I was like
45:33 He's just an angry zealot and it didn't feel weighted blood. I hate this guy
45:36 Yeah, like all of his zealotry was like ropes. Yeah performance the writing everything felt like I wanted
45:43 Him to feel like yeah, you just feel like the mole like the the anger and the like righteous hatred
45:50 It's it's yeah, it's that he feels righteous in that awfulness and I didn't feel that from brother blood
45:54 Yeah, it's that looking down you're looking down on
45:57 everyone is just filthy and and agents of you know, Idle Hands of the devil agents of you know,
46:04 corrosion and all that stuff and everybody he looks upon comes with this sort of scourge of judgment and
46:11 And yeah, like I thought they captured that psychosis really nicely and - you know
46:15 We don't really see him go to Arkham or whatever, but it's like it's in fitting with the kinds of people would wind up there
46:21 Yeah, but also in a very again historically appropriate way because you would have had you know
46:26 The the very moralistic arguments and the class-based arguments and stuff like that
46:31 And which I like how they addressed and it didn't get heavy-handed
46:34 But they were like put at the top and then it stayed part of it like the fabric
46:37 Yeah
46:37 And it makes sense too because there are like, you know
46:39 It comes in varying degrees because they touch on again the class
46:43 Angle and the idea that like oh, you know if they were killing men
46:46 You would have figured this out a long time ago or at least and then people counter
46:49 Well, you know if it was affluent women, yeah, very least we would have figured this out a long time ago
46:53 It's you know, it's the the women on the fringes of society who are being plagued upon and how people look on that
46:59 I feel like that's you know a nuance that's very
47:03 Reasonable I feel like anytime you directly be like he's targeting women because of this reason, you know a dog whistles certain people to be like
47:10 But this makes perfect sense and also again lines up with the MO of
47:15 Historical Jack the Ripper's right? Yeah having I thought having that really strong Selena perspective as she was a favorite
47:24 I really loved that her motivation was justified. I love that. She would have done exactly what she did at every turn
47:29 I loved her origin. I thought the cat element was fun
47:31 Yeah, fun fact Greg Griffin is the voice of sister Leslie Tompkins and Jason Todd and also Selena Kyle's singing voice
47:38 What a range of different roles
47:40 Yeah
47:44 Which told plot elements? Yeah, and a romantic subplot again felt earned felt earned it felt natural organic
47:51 And I feel the plot it gave him an alibi and also gave him an out
47:54 It also gave her a lot to do like that's what you want a true love story to feel like and she also was like
47:59 An Irene what's her name?
48:01 Sherlock oh
48:04 Yes, it is she got to be like that
48:08 Which also is a really fun female lead of the time and dressed like her but also nodded towards Selena Kyle's Tim's sail outfit
48:15 Which is that purple that might have been a coincidence, but it felt like that. She had a purple
48:18 Well a lot of fun. Yeah, and with the the the Sherlock Holmes
48:21 I mean then you have Alfred is kind of like John Watson. Yeah true John Watson not the bumbly guy
48:27 But yeah, the guy who's looking out for the well-being of Sherlock Holmes and facilitating, you know
48:32 Yeah, brilliance along the way. This was fun, man. I really dug this
48:36 Yeah, this this was terrific and it makes me curious to go and read the comic and and see what that take
48:41 I'm so glad I haven't read it so long because I don't I think the Gordon twist is accurate, but I don't remember
48:46 Yeah
48:47 But I think that came out in 89 and I think I probably read it like 96 like I remember I think I was like
48:52 A child that had just discovered Hellboy. So I was like, oh
48:55 Yeah, so it would not be something I remember at all but that was a blast yeah, this was terrific
49:01 I really like this a lot and again like such
49:03 economical but also fluid
49:06 breathable storytelling and yeah, like really great use of
49:09 Everything at this movies disposal. Thank you elseworld. That was so much fun. Do we have any patrons?
