00:00 Congratulations on another fine season and a Best in Ferris medal to go with it.
00:04 No thank you.
00:05 It's been a massive year.
00:07 Obviously a big preliminary final this week so great to get some awards throughout the
00:13 season but it probably means a little bit less if we're not playing for a premiership
00:18 and hopefully win one.
00:20 Yeah well as that's coming up, you look back on your year, you've already alluded to it
00:25 tonight, you've had a few niggles during the season but you've managed to get through and
00:30 that's all about good management by an experienced player.
00:33 Yeah for sure.
00:34 When I played I was pretty confident in my ability.
00:38 There was a few games where I battled to get through but it's probably my experience and
00:46 not training as much as Mitch would have probably liked me to as well has probably helped out.
00:51 Yeah it's the time of the year you want to be playing and obviously I think Springbank
00:58 are the benchmark personally and what better way to hopefully get into a grand final than
01:02 play them.
01:03 And obviously losing to them last year, the way we did kick off the season, still haunts
01:08 me.
01:09 One of the worst losses of my career so it would be nice to right a wrong for one and
01:14 to have a crack at them who I think is the benchmark.
01:16 You've had a great journey throughout your football career playing in the VFL, the Waffle
01:21 and then last year you arrived at Hepburn, lured to the boroughs by then new coach Mitch
01:28 Banner who's one of your best mates.
01:30 It's a funny story, me and Mitch have come full circle.
01:33 So we've been mates since high school.
01:36 Probably if you talk to people that know us we're polar opposites in terms of personality
01:41 wise but yeah we've remained best mates for a long time, lived together in Perth.
01:46 Funny story, he asked me to come to Hepburn before he got the job and I said yeah no dramas
01:53 but in my mind I didn't think he was going to get the job and when he called me to say
01:59 he got the job my heart sort of sunk a bit because I've never been to Hepburn for one
02:02 and two.
02:03 It was a bit further than I'm used to playing but yeah loved it.
02:09 Probably in the later stages of my career and it's definitely given me a second wind
02:12 for football, just the enthusiasm across you know and it's probably the first time in my
02:17 career where I've really made a concerted effort to get around the young players, try
02:21 and help them develop and yeah it's been a breath of fresh air and I think probably I've
02:26 never played in a country town and just the breath of fresh air, everyone is right down
02:31 from the top, from president, vice president.
02:34 Couldn't have made a better decision particularly for my football career.
