00:00 follow-up question. When do you anticipate we will find out whether the
00:04 PTI will be able to run in those elections and what are your
00:09 considerations about the importance of allowing them to run or not to run?
00:14 I don't have any sort of confusion or qualms on any political party including PTI
00:25 that they would be part of the electoral process. They are registered political
00:31 party with the Election Commission of Pakistan. They are constitutionally
00:36 entitled to feel their candidatures in different constituencies. Just like any
00:44 other political party I'm even surprised that even this question of them
00:51 participating in the electoral process why does it arise? No one has stopping
00:58 any political party from participating in a normal constitutional political
01:06 process. What can be done? What would you like to see done on this particularly in
01:11 terms of Pakistan, Afghanistan? Are you more focused on what we're gonna do on
01:15 counter-terrorism or Afghanistan Pakistan relations? Well I mean it's
01:19 related Pakistan is saying as I understand it that much of the problem
01:23 is based in Afghanistan and these guys are sort of operating from Afghanistan
01:28 into Pakistan. First of all I think so we should focus and and try to appreciate
01:36 what is going on on our western borders and this surge in attacks of terrorist
01:45 outfits either be religious inspired attacks or even ethnic inspired attacks
01:52 like the form of BLA and BLF and the rest of their associates. One thing which
01:58 is very important which has changed the entire landscape the security landscape
02:04 of this region is the leftover gadgets by US and its allies Afghanistan which
02:12 has implications not just for Pakistan but for the whole region and very
02:20 reliable and authentic journalistic literature has been already produced on
02:26 it. It's not just what Pakistan is saying it's the literature has been published
02:31 to even in magazines like foreign policy and and few others but we do believe
02:36 this is a challenge which probably was not well thought of and this is a
02:43 challenge which needs to be responded and this is a challenge where we along
02:51 with our international partners against the terrorism need to coordinate
02:56 cooperate and work together and I believe that in initial briefings to me
03:03 from the security side my understanding is that we are already working on that
03:08 with our partners be it United States and and others here European Union UK
03:13 and and the rest of the powers and this is a problem which has been recognized
03:20 by anyone and everyone and these surges are primarily happening because the
03:30 fighting capacity of these outfits has been enhanced they are emerging as a new
03:37 challenge. Pakistan is in the forefront to take this brunt we have been arguing
03:47 this for years and years and years when we were accused by our own partners that
03:55 we are probably having a sort of a double role or we are not the willing
04:02 partnership in in this so-called war on terror but we could foresee that a time
04:08 will come that all these powers will leave this region and it would be us who
04:14 would be facing the mess and this is what is exactly happening to us. It has
04:19 happened to us in 1989 it has happened to us again in 2021. Do we surrender? Do
04:30 we just leave it as a fate to comply? No. We are planning we are executing on our
04:40 own resources we would reform when when I say we would reform our tax system it
04:49 is for the reason we cannot rely on financial assistance to take on our
04:53 security challenges we have to raise our own money and we are doing that and then
04:59 spend that money on an area where we can keep our population secure which is one
05:08 of the prime responsibility constitutionally of any government. So
05:15 would we deny the partnership help and assistance if it is available at a
05:24 global scale? No we will not deny that assistance or help but it should be in
05:30 the right context it should be with the right intentions and we should be viewed
05:37 as a responsible government which is one against terrorism which is
05:44 against radicalization and which envisions a moderate and inclusive
05:51 Pakistan and we whatever we do here we do it out of conviction not out of
05:59 compulsion. Yes actually it is a follow follow-up question as well because I
06:04 would like to know because there were some meetings happening about security
06:07 with the Afghan government and so how is it do you feel that there is a kind of
06:13 comprehension that they are willing to help when it comes to security? We need
06:18 to appreciate that when we talk of Afghanistan or even Taliban they are in
06:24 a phase of transformation and I personally feel that room and space
06:30 should be given to them. Let them settle let them transform meanwhile whatever
06:38 best we can achieve by engaging with the multiple layers of that arrangement we
06:47 are going to pursue that goal.
