“I will start my life, start my job here. And I'm happy because I'm free,” says women’s rights activist Naveen Hashim after she arrived in France along with four other Afghan women who were threatened by the Taliban. The women had been unable to leave Afghanistan on airlifts to Western countries when the Taliban returned to power in 2021.

00:35 And I was threatened by the Taliban, the threat on my life.
00:39 So I forced and I escaped Afghanistan,
00:43 and I went to Pakistan.

00:57 I'll start my job here.
00:59 And I'm happy because I'm free.

01:04 I'll be free to choose the choice of freedom,
01:06 the choice of doing work, the choice of going out.
01:10 So everything I can practice in France
01:12 that I cannot in Afghanistan anymore.
01:15 When I left my country and went to Pakistan,
01:18 the Pakistan situation is same Afghanistan.
01:20 And we are forced foreign side with different problem,
01:24 especially economic problem, security problem,
01:27 and also military problem.
01:29 We have more.
01:30 But when I came here, now I am so happy.
01:33 But I have to say, do not forget the Afghanistan women,
01:38 Afghanistan people, because they need to support of you
01:43 and support of the United Nations.
