00:00 So tell me a bit about where the idea came from to run the Great North Run this year?
00:05 So I've done it, this is my third time, I'm doing it for blood cancer. I just thought
00:10 one more time, I'm nearly 50, last time to do it so I just thought, you know, give it
00:14 a go.
00:15 And you're doing it with your son aren't you?
00:17 I am, I'm doing it with my son Jack. Vodgy couldn't be here today but yes he's been helping
00:22 us with all the training as well so yeah it's all good.
00:25 Fabulous, and how's your training been going then?
00:27 I've been doing it since March, I'm up to about 15-20 miles now a week so yeah it's
00:32 all good, getting there.
00:37 How are you feeling getting that close, I mean we've only got about what, a week at
00:40 the weekend?
00:41 Yeah I'm feeling really good, I enjoyed it so much last year, I felt really fit, the
00:46 best I've ever been so yeah, ready for it now, I'm super excited.
00:52 So tell me a bit about the charity that you're running for?
00:54 So I'm running for Blood Cancer UK, it's the same one I've done for the last three years,
00:59 blood cancer is the fifth most killer disease of cancer so it's a worthwhile charity.
01:06 I'm doing it for a close friend that passed away with leukaemia about two years ago, two
01:13 years this Christmas so they need a hint.
01:21 Because the last time I'd done it was about nine years ago so it's been a long time
01:25 and I just thought you know, with Brian Tolman who I'm running for, with him passing away
01:31 with leukaemia I thought to myself, I've got to do something, I want to give something
01:36 back and with this happening I've also got a family member who's actually dealing
01:42 with leukaemia at the moment so it's a bit for that as well so yeah, to give something
01:47 back, to raise money to give to this amazing charity Blood Cancer UK is just fantastic.
01:56 So how are you and Jack Faylor, do you think you'll be keeping together throughout the
01:59 race or do you think you'll be running off?
02:00 We said we'll run together, he's a lot younger than me but I have to say I'll keep
02:05 up with him, I think I'll keep him going as well as him keeping me going.
02:09 And you said that it might be your last one, do you think it actually will be your last
02:13 one?
02:14 I don't know, I'm not sure, I never say never but at the minute I'm saying it's
02:19 my last one because it is, I'm nearly 50, running it because I'm 50.
02:27 Obviously you've run it a few times now, we're asking people a bit about advice you
02:31 would give to those who are maybe running it for the first time or who want to give
02:35 it a go next year, so what would your advice be?
02:37 My advice would be just enjoy the day, make sure you get your training in because it is
02:41 a tough run, pretty tough, enjoy it, the people of South Shields are amazing, they absolutely
02:46 make it, they're all there, egg you on, get you there, it's fantastic, any doubts
02:52 about not doing it, it's one of these that you've got to get on your bucket list and
02:55 just do it.
02:56 Sign up, amazing charity, raise lots of money, it's worth it.
