00:00 Laura, can you talk to us a bit about We Make Culture and what it does in the city?
00:03 Yeah, so We Make Culture is a social enterprise based in Sunderland
00:08 and we've been going since 2017 and we run participatory music projects across the city
00:14 with children, young people and families.
00:16 And you've teamed up with Back on the Map for this specific project, haven't you?
00:19 Can you tell us about this new addition?
00:21 Yeah, absolutely. So we run one of our projects is called Young Musicians Project,
00:25 which does pretty much what it says on the tin and it's based in the centre of town.
00:29 We work with 13 to 19 year olds and introduce them to music making,
00:32 playing together and that kind of thing.
00:34 Our Henden Young People's Project, which we do with Back on the Map,
00:38 is specifically a group designed for young people based in Henden who are living here.
00:43 And we're going to start off with a group, wait and come along, have a go at music making.
00:48 But we're also really open to other music making stuff that people might want to do,
00:54 like rapping or singing or songwriting.
00:57 So we're very open to suggestions.
01:00 And Becky, you're looking for young people to get involved in the project, aren't you?
01:05 We are, yes. So we've got a sign up form on our table.
01:08 So if you go to our website, remakeculture.co.uk,
01:12 and follow the links through the Young Musicians Project,
01:15 the Henden Young Musicians Project, you'll find the sign up form on our website.
01:20 And they don't need to have any experience in music, do they, to join up?
01:24 No, none at all. As long as you want to give it a go, then that's all that matters.
01:28 And what are the benefits of music and young people getting involved in that?
01:33 So I think just being able to express yourself in a creative way is really helpful and can
01:40 open up opportunities for young people that they might not have had otherwise.
