00:00Liverpool Cathedral has welcomed back the renowned artistic collective Lux
00:05Moralis for a festive experience. The artwork is vast scale we don't produce
00:11artwork this big anywhere else because of the scale of the building but it
00:15still feels very personal and this building is both a space which is at the
00:20heart of the city but can be very personal to people who come here
00:24individually. Following last year's success the light before Christmas
00:27returns with an all-new spectacular immersive sound and light installation
00:32titled Starlight. The lighting and the images highlight the building and make
00:39you look at the building in a different way and also reflect in a different way
00:45and I think the fact that the images are both on the walls on the ceiling and on
00:49the floor make it magical. The immersive experience takes visitors on a journey
00:54through the nativity as the cathedral's magnificent gothic interior transforms
00:59into a canvas for a series of dazzling light projections and bespoke soundscapes.
01:04What's amazing is that there's a different soundtrack to the the light
01:08show that's taking place in the what we call the well in the back part of the
01:12cathedral and what's happening in the front parts of the cathedral and you
01:16don't notice it and the other thing I think with the soundtrack is that you
01:21hear traditional Christmas carols played in a different way. I've never actually been to
01:27see an internal sunny Lumiere or a big light show anywhere else and that's
01:33because I don't really need to and actually I think sometimes what makes us
01:37stand out from everyone else is I think people know Lux Moralis' work and I
01:41think that's different some other work where you'll go and see a light show
01:45what people actually see is they come and see our work. As you explore the
01:49cathedral spaces are reimagined through contemporary light and sound offering a
01:53hypnotic odyssey that transforms the iconic architecture of the building.
01:58The beanbags on the floor allow people the opportunity to just sit back and lay
02:03back and just think about life think about where they fit in the universe and
02:08how it all connects to them and to humanity and for me it connects
02:14obviously to God but for those people who aren't religious it is a moment that
02:20people can just experience something in their own lives. It's a beautiful
02:25building to come into and if you know how to navigate it and to walk around it
02:28know what the areas of the cathedral are then it's somewhere where you can be
02:33quite comfortable in but not everyone is comfortable straight away and actually
02:36what the cathedral has done amazingly over the years is used art and cultural
02:40events to bring people from the city to the cathedral bring them up to this
02:45remarkable space whether it's for an artwork for a concert for a dinner for a
02:50I think sometimes there's been a rave in here or something.
02:53The light before Christmas starlight is at Liverpool Cathedral until Saturday 7th of December.
