A woman says a 40cm cyst in her stomach left people thinking she was pregnant – but feels like “a new person” after 16 litres of fluid was drained from her stomach.

Siobhan Foster, 26, started suffering from “excruciating” stomach pain in March 2022 and tests revealed a 40cm cyst in April.

Siobhan was put on the waiting list for a surgery to remove the cyst - which was on the broad ligament - which contains the blood vessels to the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus.

00:00 So, I recently have just come out of surgery for a cyst removal. Now, they believed it
00:21 was a ovarian cyst to begin with and that's what I was told throughout my whole journey
00:26 of this cyst removal. So, in March as of last year, I actually experienced some abdominal
00:33 pain and I was sent to the doctors for an emergency appointment and she told me it could
00:39 be an ovarian cyst. I then got referred to the hospital to have an ultrasound scan and
00:44 an abdominal scan which she then said to me that I had a 40cm cyst inside of me and she
00:53 believed it was on my left ovary at the time. And then in June as of last year, I then got
00:59 referred to a gynaecology which basically told me the same thing and said that I would
01:03 have to have surgery to remove it. Then in the middle of June last year, I then got sent
01:09 for an MRI scan to actually see the severity of the cyst itself. And then in July, I then
01:16 got an appointment for MRI scan results and was told it looked benign and that all the
01:21 blood tests I had came back completely fine. I was then put on a waiting list for my operation.
01:29 They told me that it could be the one with the cut to your stomach or it could be cheo
01:34 surgery but I never took it as gospel from any of them because I thought at the end of
01:38 the day, it's the surgeon that's going to do it and not you. So then in March this year,
01:42 I got a pre-op assessment. So, this is obviously an assessment before you go in for surgery
01:49 and they had to weigh me and take my temperature, more blood tests. I've had so many blood tests,
01:54 it's unbelievable. And then obviously, I had to wait for my surgery date. So, as of the
01:59 7th of June this year, I finally had my surgery for my cyst removal and it weighed around
02:08 two and a half stone which they said they drained 16 litres of fluid obviously through
02:12 cheo surgery which is a hell of a lot of weight to be carrying around extra than I should
02:17 have been. So, during surgery, they actually found out it wasn't actually attached to my
02:21 ovaries. So, it was supposed to have been attached to my left ovary, however, it wasn't.
02:26 So, the man that was doing my surgery had to get another specialist in. It's been now
02:30 six weeks since I had my operation. They've healed really, really well and it's been less
02:35 recovery time. So, when you have keyhole surgery, they say it's less invasive surgery so that
02:40 you can recover quicker and I'm so glad they did it like that because I feel like if I
02:44 had the cut on my stomach in the end, I would have really struggled because I'd have had
02:48 to have longer recovery time but for that six weeks and I'm back to myself and I can
02:53 like go in the shower, wash myself and do everything that I would normally do. It's
02:56 just so nice. So, yeah, that's how they removed my cyst.
02:59 That's right.
