00:00 The President himself said that the Agriculture Secretary is standing up and that it's up to him to raise the price of rice even if his supply is enough in the country.
00:09 The possible reason for this is known from the talks between Bernadette Reyes and Ivan Mayrino.
00:14 In this fight to ensure the supply and maintenance of the price of rice, President Bongbong Marcos ordered the government agencies to do all legal measures to control the price of rice
00:28 and to provide all support to farmers and traders.
00:31 Even though the President said that it's up to him to raise the price of rice, now that the supply is enough, based on the report of the Department of Agriculture.
00:39 Some of the reasons for this increase are hoarding and manipulation of the price, the effect of the floods and the price that the middlemen are raising.
00:47 Another step for the maintenance and manipulation of the price is to stop the raids of Bureau of Customs on warehouses.
00:54 Like the three warehouses in Bulacan last week, the Bureau of Customs and the House of Representatives led by Speaker Martin Romualdez,
01:03 where more than P500 million pesos worth of imported rice was sold.
01:07 However, Customs is not yet sure if there's a hoarding that's happening.
01:11 This raid is expected to follow other warehouses so that those who want to manipulate the price of rice can avoid the hidden supply.
01:19 The President also added to Customs to check if they can give the rice to the DSWD.
01:26 When we validate and see that there are no payments from the people we see in the warehouses, then we will confiscate and then we will identify all the owners of this smuggled rice.
01:43 Meanwhile, the amount of rice that was damaged due to the heavy rain and typhoons reached 67,000 metric tons or P3 billion pesos.
01:52 According to the Agriculture Department, the heavy rain and typhoon that hit the rice-producing regions, such as Region 1, 2 and 3, Cordillera Administrative Region and Mimaropa, are not yet included.
02:04 However, the DA is not in charge because this is only equivalent to 0.6 percent of the production target this year.
02:12 Farmers are preparing to plant in the dry cropping season that will start on September 16.
02:19 Both rice and corn, this is the only chance that the typhoons will hit us.
02:32 But according to other reports, the weather is good in other areas. We're hoping that the farmers can produce their produce in dry conditions.
02:47 The DA is also helping the big rice cooperatives to have a reasonable price for their purchases.
02:55 It is possible to buy rice at the local stores. However, it is limited and can only be purchased here.
03:03 For GMA Integrated News, Bernadette Reyes and I am Ivan Meyrina. We are tuned 24 hours.
