00:00 Hello guys, this is Theo from Euronews Culture and I'm en route to Notting Hill Carnival,
00:11 the biggest street party in Europe which takes place right in the heart of London. The event
00:15 is attended each year by over 2 million people and it's most known for its incredible parades,
00:20 delicious food and of course, its very very loud sound systems. The festival is a celebration
00:26 of Caribbean culture and this year is particularly special as it coincides with the 75th anniversary
00:31 of the arrival of the passengers of the Empire Windrush in the UK. And in this video I'm
00:36 going to be taking you along with me to offer you a glimpse of what it's like to attend
00:39 the festival and what it means to those that partake.
00:50 Personally Carnival means unity, means love, means everything to me. It just fills my soul
00:58 to be a part of something so great, part of something so unique, part of something that
01:02 it just brings so many different people from so many different places together. Doesn't
01:05 matter race, doesn't matter colour, anything and it's just an amazing feeling for the day.
01:09 Actually we've only come to Notting Hill Carnival twice before, so it's really special to come
01:20 back for the third time with dad for his first time because he's English and my mum's
01:24 Kinderdaddian so it's nice to blend the two cultures together.
01:27 I like the flow and the music and seeing the people walk now.
01:40 When I arrived at the Carnival the parade was in full swing and the streets were full
01:47 of masquerade bands and dancers, all dressed in colourful handmade costumes while Carnival
01:52 goers of all ages cheered along. Throughout the day I spent time at the various sound
01:56 systems and stages, taking in a wide range of Caribbean music and even stopped to try
02:01 some very tasty Jamaican food. The atmosphere throughout the day was one of party and celebration
02:06 and the event wonderfully showcased the cultural diversity of London's neighbourhoods. While
02:10 the crowded and at times chaotic streets may not be for everyone, it's well worth checking
02:14 out next year if you've never been.
