00:00 Recently our Torongo Western Plains Zoo conservation team went out into our sanctuary and conducted
00:04 a massive bilby population survey.
00:06 Over four huge nights they were up at 3.30am clearing traps, checking the bilbies and we're
00:13 really pleased to report that the population has absolutely boomed.
00:18 We did a visual health assessment on all of the bilbies that were captured and we're really
00:21 pleased to report that they seem to be in excellent health.
00:24 All of the females that we captured looked like there were signs of recent breeding which
00:28 is really nice.
00:30 And using the data that we collected over the last week we were actually able to conduct
00:34 a capture marker recapture analysis which gave us a population estimate.
00:38 So obviously we're not catching all of the bilbies in there, there's a few that have
00:42 evaded the traps, but our population estimate demonstrated that there was 136.6 individuals
00:50 out there in the sanctuary which is a massive number.
