00:00 TLC's Sister Wives is returning for its 18th season,
00:03 and with three of the marriages ending,
00:05 things are more complicated than ever.
00:07 There's no question, Robin.
00:09 He's done with me.
00:11 Cody's first wife, Mary, opened up about the moment
00:14 that led to the two of them
00:15 deciding to end their relationship.
00:18 It was actually,
00:19 it was actually on our anniversary
00:24 about a year and a half ago,
00:28 where we were out on a drive
00:31 and we just started having a real conversation.
00:35 And, you know, he said some things
00:38 that I hadn't heard come from his mouth to me specifically,
00:43 yet, and he finally was able to be open.
00:48 He was finally able to, like, open up
00:51 and be real with me, I think.
00:53 And I was in a place that I could hear it as well.
00:56 And so from then, we just started having
01:00 more real conversations.
01:02 I think the conversations were a long time coming,
01:05 so that was good.
01:06 You know, it was not something that I ever saw happening
01:10 in my marriage, especially, you know,
01:12 like when we got married like 33 years ago.
01:16 Like, you don't think that that's ever gonna happen,
01:18 but I'm very confident knowing
01:20 that I did everything that I could do.
01:23 And I'm very at peace with the timing of it
01:27 and how it all played out.
01:28 - Mary discussed the infamous catfishing incident
01:31 and just how much of a role it played
01:33 in her split with Cody.
01:34 - I'm gonna clarify something here,
01:37 and this is what a lot of people really misunderstand.
01:41 And that is the fact that a lot of people
01:45 look at the catfishing as a defining moment
01:47 of the demise of our marriage,
01:49 or even the family, and it's really not,
01:52 'cause there was a lot of things
01:53 that were happening for years prior.
01:57 So to look at that moment as the thing
02:02 that broke the marriage is very inaccurate.
02:07 So, you know, we have spent a lot of years since then
02:12 having discussions, avoiding discussions, you know,
02:18 not really being in a place that,
02:21 specifically about me and Cody,
02:23 not really being in a place that I feel like
02:27 that we could really talk and hear
02:32 what the other one was saying, you know?
02:33 So I think the passing of time and all those years
02:38 since then, he and I have really been able to come
02:42 to a place that we can just be more open
02:45 and honest with each other,
02:46 whereas, you know, five years ago, 10 years ago,
02:49 15 years ago, we couldn't have done that.
02:52 - Mary also revealed that she's ready
02:54 to think about dating again.
02:55 - I definitely am open to it.
02:57 I definitely am open to it.
02:59 You know, I've lived many years as, you know,
03:02 a very strong, independent, solo person.
03:05 I don't want to live the rest of my life solo.
03:08 So yeah, I'm definitely open to it.
03:10 I'm probably not gonna go with another plural marriage.
03:16 I mean, I had, and I have, you know, a great family,
03:21 but it's probably not gonna go that direction for me.
03:26 - While there may be plenty of uncertainty
03:28 in the coming months, Mary said she's really excited
03:31 about the future.
03:32 - There's a lot of things that are still unknown,
03:35 and that's okay.
03:40 And I have to tell myself often that that's okay.
03:44 That things are unknown,
03:45 'cause I do believe that they will come to me
03:48 at the time that they're meant to come to me.
03:51 But I also have a lot of control,
03:53 like a lot of things that I can control.
03:55 And I'm really excited for those things.
03:59 I've got another really exciting project coming along.
04:03 I've got good people surrounding me.
04:05 I've got an awesome support system,
04:07 and, you know, just kind of being open
04:10 to what the future holds.
04:12 You know, we don't know what's gonna come in the future.
04:14 I don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow.
04:16 You know what I mean?
04:17 So it's just about, for me,
04:20 it's really just about keeping all the doors open
04:24 and saying yes.
04:25 You know, 'cause if you don't say yes,
04:29 you always wonder what's gonna happen.
