A dog has been dubbed Scooby-Doo thanks to a birth defect which makes him look like a cartoon.

Belle, a six-year-old Doberman cattle hound cross, was born with tight muscles in her head, believed to be the reason behind her distinctive appearance.

Owner Lieschen O'Neill, 39, adopted Belle in 2017 from Lawrence Humane Society, an organisation which provides care for homeless and abused animals.

The "friendly" pooch has become an internet sensation on TikTok, with over 500,000 people following her antics.

Some have even come up with nicknames for Belle, which Lieschen shared in a recent video.

At number five she was compared with a "ponytail being pulled back too tight", while "left-handed drawing" came in at number four, one which Belle didn't seem so sure about.

In third place was "childhood drawing brought to life" which Lieschen says Belle seemed "puzzled" about in the video.

The runner up was the "Arabian sand boa" - a snake known for having wide eyes on the top of its head.

And the top spot went to "Scooby-Doo", which Lieschen says has always been popular due to her blue collar.

Lieschen, a project manager from Lawrence, Kansas, US, said: "The top five descriptions have come from people commenting on TikTok.

"Scooby-Doo was the most popular but I think the 'childhood drawing brought to life' is the funniest.

"We also get weekly drawings that people send us of her and I can really see how a kid's drawing of Belle could just turn into her.

"The Arabian sand boa was the worst one as people would message me pictures of the snake to compare but I hate snakes!

"People have also said she looks like a cartoon dog or a dog drawn from memory and they've also said she looks like the dog from Martha Speaks."

Lieschen says she does sometimes get some negative comments about Belle but they don't really bother her.

She said: "I haven't ever really been upset by the comments and I know people sometimes say things to get a reaction but any negative things that people say about her online they wouldn't say in person as she's so happy.

"When we go for walks, people come up to us and she demands attention from anyone.

"She has interesting eyes and she's really friendly

"That's her natural look - she's very excited about life in general."
