00:02 - Ads for sports betting, they're coming fast and furious.
00:05 We haven't seen as many as we're about to see
00:09 with college football beginning this Saturday,
00:12 Pat and the NFL coming up here very soon as well.
00:15 So where do you think this is headed in terms of regulation?
00:18 - Yeah, so this was kind of timely to your point.
00:22 I mean, football season is when the ads
00:24 and marketing spend really ramp up.
00:26 We see all these promos.
00:28 And yesterday there was a North American regulator
00:33 association of some sort, I forget the specific name.
00:36 They met and the regulator,
00:39 chief regulator up in Maine, Milton Champion,
00:42 kind of moderated this panel and was asking questions.
00:44 And he said, you know what?
00:45 We're launching soon, likely November, December,
00:48 but we're already seeing ads just flooding our market.
00:52 And he's like, we're not even live.
00:55 Is this legal for them to do?
00:56 How do we do this?
00:58 And it was just really interesting to hear
00:59 kind of other regulators pop in and say,
01:03 well, you have to put some pressure on them.
01:06 You have to tell them, be forceful on things.
01:09 A guy from Kansas said, we want the radio ads disclaimers
01:14 that are always said really fast at the end
01:18 to be slowed down so you can read them.
01:19 In Connecticut, they said, we want the disclaimers
01:22 at the bottom, at the end of the ad on TV to be bigger
01:25 so you can actually read them.
01:26 Things like that, we had people talking about fining more
01:30 for ads that violate any sort of weird stipulations.
01:33 And from the draft regulations up in Maine,
01:35 we know Milton is very strict and wants things to be run
01:40 by them before they're aired.
01:42 And I think we're gonna see some tightening.
01:44 I don't think sports books wanna get in trouble
01:47 and gain any more attention than they have
01:49 at the national level.
01:50 We know there's a bill in Congress
01:52 that could ban sports betting.
01:53 I don't think that will gain traction,
01:55 but that would be devastating to these operators.
01:59 So there's a lot to pay attention to here
02:01 and it's gonna be fun to pay attention to.
