00:00 Hello there. Welcome to this week's edition of the Footy Forecast, the third one of the season, where this week I am joined by Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World, who's got a big game to look forward to this weekend.
00:14 They're all big games for Newcastle now, though. How are you doing, Jordan? And thanks for joining us this week. You keeping all right?
00:19 No, very well, thanks, Lee. I'm looking forward to the game at the weekend. As you mentioned there, it's going to be a big one between two big teams.
00:27 Absolutely, definitely. Yeah, well, this is it. We'll talk about all the games this weekend. We'll run through each Premier League game this weekend in conjunction with our National World Gaming site, which we'll tell you a bit more about in a minute.
00:37 But that's going to be the main focus this weekend, that game on Sunday, which is a huge game. Obviously, there's been some absolute classics between those two sides over the years, and we'll hope there'll be another one on Sunday afternoon.
00:47 The idea with this one is this is what's known as the single game survivor on National World Gaming, where you can go on this basically, and it's £5 to play, where you put your predictions in.
00:57 Eight questions you're asked, and the idea is that it's sort of like the last man standing. If your predictions all come good, it's in with a chance of winning the £1,000 cash prize pool.
01:05 So it's a little bit of fun and small stakes where you can also potentially win a little bit. But we'll talk about the game generally first.
01:11 What have you made to Newcastle's start to the season? I mean, they basically blew everybody away really on the opening weekend, I suppose.
01:17 And then the second game obviously come up against City. So far, so good, would you say with them?
01:23 Yeah, I think it's been a hugely encouraging start from Newcastle. I think the Aston Villa game, you look at pre-season predictions.
01:30 A lot of people are predicting Aston Villa to finish above Newcastle, or at least challenge Newcastle.
01:36 So it was an interesting game, the first game. I'm not sure how many people knew what the result would be or which team would come out on top.
01:42 But Newcastle United came out on top by a landslide in the end. It was probably an even game for around 60 minutes.
01:48 But Newcastle, with the signings they've made over the summer to give Eddie House strength and depth off the bench,
01:53 he managed to bring on Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson and they managed to surge to victory and win 5-1.
01:58 So that was a really, really positive opening day. The second game against Manchester City.
02:03 I think there was a little bit of disappointment among Newcastle fans that they couldn't threaten Manchester City's defence enough.
02:07 They only had one shot in that game. And that's not anything to do with Manchester City.
02:11 That's because Newcastle fans know how good this team is at the moment. But unfortunately, it didn't reach them levels.
02:17 Manchester City, the Trello winners for a reason, Premier League champions for a reason.
02:21 And Pep Guardiola admitted after the game that he actually changed his tactics to combat Newcastle's style.
02:26 So although Newcastle did only leave a little bit disappointed after that game against Manchester City,
02:32 they can take a lot of positives from it.
02:33 And certainly a big compliment from Pep Guardiola that Manchester City did reverse their tactics to counter Newcastle.
02:40 Definitely. So how do we see this one going at the weekend then?
02:42 Because, I mean, obviously, Liverpool, I think everybody's expecting an improved season from them this time around.
02:47 Again, they've had a pretty decent start. Obviously, the 1-1 draw against Chelsea and then 3-1 against Bournemouth.
02:52 So if we go through this game, how do you see it going?
02:54 And first up, I suppose, which is a good place to start, because this is the first question of the eight we're going to tackle.
02:58 Who do you see scoring first and getting the opening goal, Jordan?
03:01 So I think Newcastle historically have started strong in games under Eddie Howe since he took over just under two years ago now.
03:10 So I do expect Newcastle to score first.
03:14 My prediction, I think Alexander Isaac will get his third goal of the season, shall I say.
03:19 I think it'll be a fast draw from Newcastle.
03:21 What happens from there, I do think Newcastle will go on to win the game.
03:25 I think Liverpool will equalise, but Newcastle will go on to win the game 3-1.
03:31 But I say it's going to be a really intriguing battle because Liverpool had a poor season last year.
03:36 Newcastle tipped the score 4-0.
03:38 They'll no doubt want revenge on Newcastle.
03:40 So I'm really looking forward to the afternoon.
03:42 Definitely. The thing I can see with this is I just see goals coming from all angles, really.
03:46 This fixture has had that in the past and I almost could see that happening again.
03:50 Basically, I'll go with you though as well.
03:51 I think Newcastle will probably score first, especially with the home crowd at St James' will be absolutely rocking.
03:56 I mean, the next one we've got is which player has two shots at goal first?
04:00 So I mean, not one of them you mentioned there, Isaac.
04:02 So we've got Tamali or Isaac for Newcastle or Luis Diaz or Salah.
04:05 I mean, out of those four, would you probably say Isaac based on what you're sort of thinking there?
04:10 Yeah, Isaac just on the sort of purpose that Newcastle will make a quick start or expect them to make a quick start of the game.
04:17 Yeah, Isaac will get a goal and then yeah, probably another as well.
04:20 I think so as well with that one.
04:21 So I think we may be meant to give different opinions, but maybe if we're giving everybody the same opinion,
04:26 it's probably a good sign that we're 100% nailed on.
04:29 Right, well, let's hope so. Anyway, I'll agree with you on that one.
04:31 Team for the first two bookings, I mean, that's a hard one to call really, I suppose.
04:35 But I mean, if you sort of think Newcastle are going to be in the ascendancy early,
04:38 do you think maybe Liverpool for that one?
04:41 No, I'm actually going to go with Newcastle for the first booting,
04:45 because Newcastle have actually had the most bootings in the Premier League so far this season.
04:48 So I almost feel like it's just written in the stars for it to be a quick game.
04:52 Might be a dodgy tackle in midfield, but yeah, I do think Newcastle will get, a Newcastle player will get booked first.
04:59 Yeah, no, that makes sense.
05:01 Team for two offsides first, a bit of a mouthful.
05:05 How do you see that one? That's a bit of a difficult one to call really,
05:07 but I think I'll probably go with, I might go with Liverpool with that.
05:09 I could see them on the break, maybe trying to go for it a little bit and maybe getting caught.
05:13 Yeah, no, I agree. Liverpool on the counter-attack, I think, again, offside this season, I think Newcastle have had six,
05:18 Liverpool have had five. So it's really, really tight.
05:21 But because Liverpool play in a counter-attacking style, I think they may get caught offside twice first.
05:27 Yeah, the other one, team first to three corners.
05:30 I think I'm going to go with early Newcastle pressure. So I'll go with Newcastle on that one, I think.
05:34 Yeah, I'll actually go with Liverpool. Newcastle have only had six corners in two games, which is actually quite low.
05:40 Liverpool, I believe so. I think Liverpool, yeah, first two corners.
05:45 And we've got four players for this. Who's getting the first card out of Trippier, Botman, Robertson and Van Dijk?
05:50 I mean, it could be anybody out of them four, but I'm going to go Robertson.
05:54 Maybe with the Newcastle threading that wide, maybe something like that, bringing someone down.
05:59 Yeah, no, I agree with that. I was going to say Robertson as well.
06:01 I think he might catch Almiron down the right at some point.
06:05 Yeah, so we're agreeing most of these. Team first to three subs.
06:08 I mean, that just depends on the way the game goes, really.
06:10 I don't know what if Newcastle are sort of like a team that makes plenty of them.
06:13 I'd maybe say Liverpool, but I wouldn't have a massive opinion on it. What about yourself?
06:17 Yeah, so Adi, how Notoriously makes quite a lot of subs on the hour mark, usually goes with two off the bench.
06:22 So on that basis, two substitutes on the 60th minute, probably a third one not long after.
06:27 So I'll go with Newcastle.
06:28 Yeah, sound reasoning. And then team first to five fouls is the final one.
06:31 Again, I suppose this just depends on the game goes, really.
06:33 But I mean, I think we'll stick with almost similar to what we said before.
06:37 I'll go with Liverpool. You'll probably go Newcastle, will you, if you're sort of saying about the bookings as well?
06:41 Yeah, yeah, there's quite a lot of players in Newcastle's team that's prone to giving fouls away, Joel Linton in particular.
06:48 So, yeah, I think Newcastle will come out on top on that one.
06:51 Yeah, good. So some sound research and sound reasoning there.
06:53 Like I say, to all our viewers on this, if you fancy having a go at this, it's worth a go on National World's gaming website.
06:59 So games.nationalworld.com, five pounds to play.
07:04 Basically, you just do what me and Jordan have done and you run through various questions.
07:08 And, you know, quite simply, the further you stay in it, the better chance you have of winning the £1,000 cash pool.
07:13 There are other games you can play as well on there.
07:15 There's a football survivor one, which is basically where you need to pick the sort of banker of the weekend, if you like.
07:19 The idea with that, though, is you can only pick the same team once in the season.
07:23 So the idea is you can't really just sort of like pick a Man City every week or even Newcastle when they're going well or something like that.
07:29 To that extent, we'll run through the games quickly.
07:33 The Premier League ones and give some quick predictions. Chelsea, Luton is the first one.
07:36 I mean, probably the bankers of the weekend. I've got 3-0 Chelsea here, but I don't know what you're thinking, Jordan.
07:41 Yeah, quite similar, but I'll go with 2-0 Chelsea. Chelsea have had a disappointing start, particularly after last week's result.
07:48 But yeah, I can't say Luton, newly promoted, go into Chelsea and get the result.
07:52 So I do expect Chelsea to get their first win of the season.
07:55 Yeah, I think they'll be most people's banker of the weekend.
07:57 There's probably a few this weekend, but I think they'll be most people's certainty of the lot, if you like.
08:01 And we know football's not always like that. Bournemouth's Tottenham is the first game on Saturday.
08:04 I mean, I've got spurs away a win, but I'm not sure how easy it'll be, but maybe 2-1, something like that.
08:09 Yeah, close for me as well. I went with 1-0 Tottenham.
08:12 Despite losing Harry Kane, James Madison's team have stepped up with a play.
08:16 If he's fit, then I do think Tottenham will get a result.
08:19 Yeah, he's looking at brilliant signing, isn't he?
08:21 Arsenal, Fulham is the next one.
08:23 Another London derby. What have I got here? 2-0 Arsenal, I think, in this one.
08:27 I mean, I expect Arsenal to get the job done, but maybe not quite blow them away.
08:29 What are you thinking yourself?
08:31 Yeah, 2-1 to Arsenal for me.
08:33 Arsenal have obviously won both games, but very tight by what a 1-0 scoreline.
08:38 So, yeah, I think it'll be a tight game between the two clubs.
08:42 Brentford Palace is one where I was struggling a bit.
08:45 So, I just sat on the fence and said 1-1.
08:47 Yeah, 2-2 for me.
08:49 There you go.
08:51 Brentford had a good start, but Crystal Palace.
08:54 I was impressive against Arsenal the other night.
08:56 Yeah, absolutely.
08:57 Everton Wolves, I mean, Everton obviously had a terrible start, really.
09:01 They've had injuries as well.
09:02 And so, I mean, that's one where I'm going for an away win here, but I'm not sure there'll be many goals.
09:06 I think maybe a 1-0 Wolves win or something like that.
09:09 Yeah, 1-0 Wolves for me as well.
09:11 Yeah, I think it's really hard to predict that one.
09:13 I think it's two teams that probably will be in a relegation battle come the end of the season.
09:16 So, yeah, it could be potentially an early season six-pointer.
09:20 There we go. Both agreed on the result and the score there.
09:22 So, that's one you will definitely need to avoid.
09:24 We both put the mockers on that one, probably.
09:26 But no, I think I do quite fancy that one for a 1-0.
09:28 Another potential banker, Man U, Forest.
09:30 I think if most people say Man U win, it's probably what score.
09:32 I think it'll go 2-0 Man U.
09:33 They've not started brilliant, but I expect them to get the job done.
09:36 So, I think probably 2-0 at Old Trafford.
09:37 What about yourself, Jon?
09:38 Yeah, I've gone with 2-1 to Manchester United.
09:42 Yeah, they've had a poor start.
09:44 Manchester United didn't play well against Wolves.
09:46 Deservedly got beat at Tottenham, but I can't see Nottingham Forest going to Old Trafford and getting the result.
09:51 Absolutely, yeah.
09:52 Saturday evening, Brighton, the team who made a flying start.
09:54 Do you see them getting the job done against West Ham?
09:56 I've got one I got here.
09:56 I've got 2-0 for Brighton for that one.
09:59 Yeah, 3-1 to Brighton for me.
10:00 Eight goals already this season, came out of the box flying.
10:03 So, yeah, I fully expect them to continue their 100% start.
10:07 And then we fly 3-3 on Sunday.
10:09 Burnley Villa, Ollie Watkins, absolutely flying in midweek.
10:12 A striker really in flying form.
10:14 I think with that and also the way he's going and everything, I expect Villa to get the job done there.
10:18 And I think we've got 2-0 there, but you know what?
10:20 I might go 3-0 Villa.
10:22 Yeah, 2-0 Villa for me.
10:25 Villa are a really unlucky loser against Newcastle by that scoreline on the first day.
10:29 Obviously, a comprehensive win against Everton last time out.
10:32 So, yeah, I think it'll be a routine win for Villa at Turf Moor.
10:36 Yeah, and are we thinking something similar for Sheffield United City at Bramall Lane?
10:40 A reckon a way win for City by 2-3?
10:41 I think I've got one I've got here.
10:42 I've gone 3-0 for City for this one.
10:44 Yeah, 3-0 for me as well.
10:47 There we go.
10:48 I can't see Sheffield United getting a result against Manchester City.
10:52 It's such a tough ask for a new promoted club.
10:54 Absolutely. I think we definitely agree with that one.
10:56 And we literally saved the very, very best till last.
10:58 We've already sort of said about what you think, though.
11:00 Newcastle against Liverpool.
11:02 As I said, I just think if I had to make one prediction for this,
11:04 I think it's for both teams to score definite.
11:06 Do you know what I mean? That sort of idea.
11:08 I can just see it being something like 2-2.
11:10 That would be my gut instinct.
11:11 But you're sort of thinking Newcastle.
11:13 And you think it both seems to score then?
11:14 So what are you thinking for the scoreline?
11:16 Yeah, I'm going to go with Newcastle 3-1 Liverpool.
11:20 I think Newcastle will score first.
11:22 I think Liverpool will equalise.
11:23 And then I think with Newcastle, with the substitutes off the bench,
11:26 they will find a way to victory,
11:28 which will be a massive result for Newcastle,
11:31 because there's been a lot of rivalry between Newcastle and Liverpool,
11:35 particularly since the takeover went through.
11:38 They're not quite happy with Newcastle, seeing them as a threat.
11:42 So I think there's a lot of feelings and side changes as part of that.
11:45 They really want to get one over on Liverpool.
11:47 So yeah, let's wait and see if they can.
11:49 Absolutely. Well, I think it's going to be an absolute classic.
11:52 I hope you've enjoyed our show.
11:53 Get on to games.nationalworld.com,
11:55 where basically you can put all this into practice and we'll be back next week.
11:57 Thanks for your time, Jordan.
11:59 Thank you. Cheers, Lee.
