00:00 ISRO has announced that Pragyan, the rover of Chandrayaan-3 mission, has exited the spacecraft
00:10 this morning to begin its exploration of the lunar surface.
00:14 The spacecraft had landed on the unexplored south pole of the moon last evening, days
00:18 after Russia's Luna 25 failed, making India the first country to achieve soft landing
00:24 on the southern polar region of the moon.
00:27 The rover will now start its mission of exploring the southern polar region of the moon for
00:31 one lunar day that corresponds to 14 days on the earth.
00:35 Pragyan is a six-wheeled rover designed to carry out series of experiments on the surface
00:40 of the moon.
00:41 The six-wheeled rover will study the surface of the moon for several elements including
00:45 magnesium, silicon, potassium, calcium and iron.
00:49 It will also assist in understanding the moon's atmosphere and day and night cycles.
00:54 The rover has now started moving around and leaving its imprint on the soil.
00:58 The logo of the Indian Space Research Organisation, that is ISRO, and the national emblem has
01:03 been engraved on the wheels of the rover to leave an imprint when it moves around.
01:08 According to ISRO, the solar panels of the rover and that of the lander have been deployed.
01:13 From here on, the rover would collect samples of the moon, conduct experiments and send
01:18 the data to the lander.
01:20 The moon lander and the rover are part of the Rs 600 crore Chandrayaan-3 mission which
01:25 comprises a propulsion module weighing 2,148 kg, a lander weighing almost 1,724 kg and
01:33 a rover weighing 26 kg.
01:36 Apart from these, the propulsion module also has a spectral polarimetry of habitable planet
01:41 Earth or the shape payload to study the spectral and polarimetric measurements of Earth from
01:46 the lunar orbit.
01:47 The life of the payload carried by the propulsion module post ejection of the lander is between
01:52 three and six months.
01:54 As the Vikram Lander carrying the Pragyan rover in its belly touched down on the lunar
01:58 surface, it marked a giant leap in India's spacefaring journey, providing a well-deserved
02:03 finale to ISRO's long years of toil.
02:06 No country had ever landed a rover on the treacherous South Pole that scientists believe
02:11 may hold important reserves of frozen water and precious elements.
