A prolific thief has been brought to justice as part of an operation to catch thieves around the West Midlands. Nicusor Paun, from Washwood Heath, pleaded guilty to his crimes following a month-long crime spree across the city centre. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

A man has been jailed after police recovered a handgun and ammunition from an address in Ward End. Ahmad Sharifi was arrested in April and charged possession of a firearm and ammunition. The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences and was jailed for five years.

Birmingham Weekender is returning to the city centre with a giant swing and free performances for all the family this August Bank Holiday. The annual festival will take over the heart of the city with colourful installations, interactive experiences and a range of performances.
