00:02 All eyes are on Chandrayaan-3, which
00:21 is expected to land on the moon's surface on August 23.
00:25 What if is a small statement that
00:27 carries huge meanings for the lunar mission?
00:30 Keeping in mind the unfavorable conditions which
00:33 might affect the landing of Chandrayaan-3,
00:35 ISRO scientists have come up with a plan B.
00:39 The scientists are keeping pace with the unfavorable conditions
00:42 that might occur with the rover.
00:43 The reason is that ISRO scientists
00:45 want to have a safe landing on the moon.
00:47 They don't want to take any sort of risks as such,
00:50 especially after the mistakes made in the Chandrayaan-2
00:53 mission.
00:54 So what is ISRO's plan B?
00:58 ISRO has said that if any factor regarding the lander module
01:02 appears unfavorable, then the landing of Chandrayaan-3
01:05 will be shifted to August 27.
01:08 Nilesh M. Desai, director of Space Application Center ISRO
01:12 Ahmedabad said that the decision regarding the landing
01:15 will be taken based on the health of the lander module
01:17 and the conditions in the moon.
01:20 On August 23, two hours before Chandrayaan-3 lands on the moon,
01:23 we will decide on whether or not it
01:26 will be appropriate to land it at that time based
01:28 on the health of the lander module
01:30 and the conditions on the moon.
01:32 In case if any factor appears to be not favorable,
01:35 then we will land the module on the moon on August 27.
01:39 No problems should occur, and we will
01:40 be able to land the module on August 23, director Desai said.
01:45 Keeping in mind the health, telemetry, and the condition
01:50 of the lander module, we will decide on whether or not
01:55 it will be appropriate to land it on the moon two hours before.
02:00 I don't think there will be any other problem.
02:05 We will try to land the module on the moon on August 30.
02:10 But if any factor appears to be unfavorable,
02:15 then we will postpone the landing and land it on August 27.
02:19 ESO scientists say that the time of launch
02:22 is not of yet importance, but the safe landing
02:25 is, for which we are struggling for years and months.
02:29 Appropriate landing and success are the important factors
02:31 we are focused on.
02:32 So it is OK if the rover takes a few more days
02:35 to land on the moon.
02:36 The failure-based approach has been
02:38 used to build Vikram, considering
02:40 the aspect of the soft landing on the moon.
02:42 The scientists are not in a state
02:44 to take any kind of risks at this particular moment.
02:47 With the failure of Luna 25, Indian scientists
02:49 have become much more aware to accomplish the mission
02:52 positively.
02:53 During the meeting, Minister Jitendra Singh
02:55 expressed his confidence in Chandrayaan-3,
02:57 making a soft landing this time, and hoped
03:00 that it will script a new history
03:01 of planetary exploration under the guidance of Prime Minister
03:04 Narendra Modi.
03:06 ISRO said that Chandrayaan-3 is set
03:08 to land on the moon on August 23, 2023,
03:10 around 18.04 hours IST.
03:13 It will land at the lunar south pole, a region with water ice
03:16 or frozen water that could be a source of oxygen, fuel,
03:19 and water for future moon missions
03:21 or a more permanent moon colony.
03:23 If it lands successfully, Chandrayaan-3
03:25 is expected to remain functional for two weeks,
03:27 running a series of experiments, including
03:29 a spectrometer analysis of the mineral composition
03:32 of the lunar surface.
03:34 The Chandrayaan-3 lander stands about two meters tall
03:36 and has a mass of just over 1,700 kg,
03:39 roughly on par with an SUV.
03:42 It's designed to deploy a smaller, 26-kilogram lunar
03:45 rover.
03:46 ISRO plans to telecast the planned landing,
03:48 starting from 1720 IST on Wednesday.
